I recently suffered a catastrophic disk failure and have had to reinstall JA2. Since I had to get the old 'puter fixed anyway, I decided to upgrade it. A lot. Now I can't install JA2 from the disks, but all is not lost -- I had my whole JA2 folder backed up on an external hard drive. I copied the folder back onto my new computer, and JA2 runs just fine.
Unfortunately, the 1.07 exe on the backup was corrupted, and I forget where I got it. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Also unfortunately, when I try to run JAPE, I get the old "Cannot find Virtual Machine" error. I have IE 8 now, of course. Can somebody tell me what files I need to emulate this Virtual Machine so I can edit my games? I'm an inveterate cheater at this point.
I'm wondering if the mods that are available will run on my machine now. The fact that several of my old disks won't install makes me nervous. I have an amd dual core and a Geforce 9400GT, with 2 gigs and Windows XP. Since I (finally!) got a wireless internet (Clear, which is very fast and easy), I can at last download some of the massive mods I've only been able to admire over the years.

Scheinworld: Thanks for the pointer.
Lockie: I'm still running XP. JA2 starts okay, it just wouldn't install. My problem is with JAPE, the character editor, which uses the "virtual machine" to run. I had the same problem when I started over last time (about five years ago), but was able to get a fix. I'll have to do some searching.
Ah, problem solved. I was running version .32 of JAPE, which apparently didn't recognize newer versions of Java. Version .41 works fine. I'm glad it's still being updated.
I also solved the install problem, which is good because IMP edit won't work if the game isn't installed. It appears that with my system, the installation wizard takes a couple of minutes to start up. That's a real relief, because several of my old games wouldn't install.
