I captured a few explosive mines from the army and I had a couple of quick questions

If a mine is armed and planted and my merc step on it will it explode

My militia step on it, will it explode

Mines in close proximity : if one explodes will this cause a chain reaction explosion

Shooting at a mine : will it explode

Besides planting them in a door way to a building i'm in it seems hard to effectively use mines

Thanks for the wisdom

1+2) Yes if his/her level is too low to detect (civs go boom too)

3) Yes if in the next tile (for standard explosion dammage)

4) dunno

5) use of mines
- You may "repair" fences with flaggedout mines
- channel attacks by the use of flaggedout mines
- also use remote bombs (especially in WFmod) or secondary bombs (=put a mine nexed to explosives without detonators).
. The ladder have to be redeployed after every "autosort" of mercs and bulk
- mines are also usefull to start the fight (since You will have the first turn when the enemy "finds" it.
- single unflagged mines are useless -> minefields. I once (re)placed some 2.XXX mines in Tixa threwout a game.

1-3 is not valid for flagged mines
there are two outflagging options in the ini (militia and mercs) I usually have them both on auto. This has to be changed when You start to use them Yourself. (needs newstart of the game)

Shooting at a mine : will it explode

Haven't tried shooting at them, but throwing a grenade on a mine lying on the ground (not planted) will have it exploding.

In one occasion this was my only way inside a locked building because the guy with the explosives was left back wounded in the other sector and no one with lockpicking skill and the right tools was around. The combo mine+HG realy did blow away a good deal of the wall.

I tried shooting a mine once because I planted it to "fix" a hole in a fence but didn't realize my militia will step on it and turn hostile (before the INI option was available). The guy who planted the mine couldn't "find" it / place a blue flag. Only if you have a blue flag you can choose to disarm it again. I spent more than a thousand rounds and was *not* able to make it explode.

By the way, I also tried to make the mine explode, however whatever explosive I used, all that happened was that the fence had a bigger hole, and to my surprise the mine did *not* explode. I used hand grenades, dynamite, and C4, no luck exploding the mine.

the planted mine can't be discovered unless you save and reload after planting it

Yes, this makes sense. You can make a mine explode that's just around on the ground, but you cannot harm it when it is planted (i.e. digged in).

You can disarm it by using the hand-cursor on that tile. You don't need a blue flag. I use this method in the BBB (Barry's Boom Bootcamp): A merc plants a mine on a field and immediatly therafter Barry disarms it by using the hand-cursor on the same tile.

if you use hand cursor on a tile the merc walks on it and tries to pick up an item there, with an unmarked mine the merc just steps on it and goes off

No, it doesn't necessarily. I have done that dozends, if not hundreds, of times. It only goes boom in case the merc failed to disarm it.

The disarm action is only possible on a blue flag I believe. If there is no blue flag you invoke the walk action instead.

just rember your merc know wher the planted mines are but thay forget when reloading a save.

note that any explosive item can be set of by a explosion.
so use crappey bombs, nades, bust tnt, try add mustard gas to boost mine range and mark the field.

Try it out: Use a low EXP merc to plant a mine and afterwards have a high EXP merc use the hand-cursor on the same tile.

buy a metal detector Wink
or get a merc with lvl 4+ to go in front, they spot mines.
and btw a mine can be defused even if there isn't a flag on it.

Don't forget about the tear, mustard, and smoke mines in AIMNAS.
