There seem to be some funny things about water in JA2...

First, I've been ambushed by bloodcats with Flo alone. I supposed her to be summarily slaughtered, but she ended up in a water stream...guess what happened? Bloodcats did not enter water and Flo could safely retire..!!! Funny thing that...but there is another yet more funny:

I went to seek skyrider and I finally found him after 14 hours  . On the way back to Drassen, I encountered an enemy patrol. I decided to give it a try and positioned my merc in the lower left of the screen, because I wanted to get to Drassen without firing a shot. It was night in the game and light was coming in form my window so I didn't look very well at the terrain, and all my mercs were in shallow water, including Skyrider. I looked at them and....SKYRIDER IS STANDING ABOVE WATER! (ye Gods, our heli pilot is actually Jesus Christ in disguise Very Happy ) Damn I laughed about five minutes when I noticed that..my laughter was soon interrupted because when I attempted to leave the sector moving Skyrider, the game crashed Mad

Is there anything else that is "afraid" of water?

Jezus indeed he is: haha

I've noticed some of my mercs being able to crawl over small water-streams. I first thought mmh perhaps the feet could be counted as making contact on land.
But I seen Grunty 'tiger' his way across without making a splash-noise.

I think Hitman should be very aquafobic, since in JA1 he kept sinking when I tried.

I am very happy they removed the snakes from JA1, that was very annoying.

OTOH, it made the possession of a knife mandatory... Water really was a tactical & strategic element to consider, at both levels. In JA2, it is no more than another kind of vegetation.

YES! I wish the source-code project could make JA2 support apocalypse now-esque moments of rising out of the water and knifing someone. too bad it isn't possible Sad
proedit has an option for hydrophobic but I don't know which mercs use it.

JA1:

I think I will wade across this river... *Tangle* Gasp! * Sploosh*

Umm... Gary? Gaaaarry? Crap, looks like a reload!

JA2:

I think I will cross this cleared sector... *Growl* Rip * Rend *

BOBCATS! Nice pussy... Crap, looks like a reload!

Sir Tech thought highly of wildlife's abilities to thwart mercs and leave them thinking, "What a load of bunk!" Seriously, they need to be toned down (not in frequency, but in abilities).

Nice trick with the water though. I was pretty beat up after the enemy thought to use the mortar (which is apparently unaffected by trees?) and then was "ambushed" by bloodcats! Annoying in their tenacity. Using Igor as a... ummm... "lure", I was able to draw them to the water where I could dispose of them. Thanks!

btw, in what situations do claustrophobic mercs get nervous? Only underground, I would assume, but is it in any small room as well?

hmmm. Skyrider is a Civilian male Body Type. Only combat bodytypes have animation for wading through water.

i guess, maria, John, mary and Joey could stand on water as well, since they have no animation for either.

non-swimmer MERCs AFAIK can only swim very short distances before drowning

claustrophobics mercs make comments when underground, their morale drops

heat intolerant mercs... i don`t know but i assume they get tired faster when walking through desert sectors

I've had one moment when I_dunno_who drowned and died.
Next, I tried to move Skitz who was on land, but he said: "Wait a minute, he's still breathing."
...got my hopes up with his psycho-comment.

Dynamo is intolerant of intolerant mercs, he just won't learn strenght from Razor.

I recall one part in the original JA where I'd taken one of the northern strongholds so I called in the militia from the sector just to the east to guard it. It didn't click as a problem that there was a strip of water between the two. The militia arrived in the sector swimming and immediately began dying from the damn snakes.
