yeah whatrs with the spray and pray. the hit chance seems to be pretty low. best scene enemy fires a whole magazine on shadow from 5 meters away .shadow just waits until the mag is empty to lob a grenade, which kills the enemy. btw shadow was out in the open so he must have balls of steel Very Happy

Oh, goodies - so it IS going to be a "spend 90% of playing time moving the camera around" type of game, just my favourite! And even if the style of the UI is not final, you can already tell it will take up way too much screen space, especially with a full squad, which also adds to make zooming/rotating/tilting to get a specific enemy into view the core challenge of the game.

I also have a suspicion that once they actually implement weapon damage, throwing a grenade is going to be a suicide mission - slowly standing up, readying the grenade and finally hurling it in SloMo, while all enemies continue emptying their clips on your merc...

Its 'cause he's got super powered super sneakiness: the enemy couldn't see him properly, and it was such a mindscrew that he got really confused.

Its not a bug, its groudbreaking AI! Razz

From bitComposer Jochen:

Quote:
Please note that this is a video of an EARLY build of the game.
Its only purpose is to visualise our plans with the Plan&Go system.

-Animations are NOT final.

-Balancing is NOT final
(like "standing 5ft apart and emtying whole magazines into each other", this is actually useful for testing purposes but will be changed later on)

-Blood and Gore.. please note that this video was for a German press release. Again, NOT final.

-User Interface is NOt final

-Terrain/Grafics will recive some polishing

Please keep in mind the game is set for Release in Q4 2011.

yeah reloaded or back in action or whatever it looks like a steamy pile... BUT the online game still appears to turn based. I hope for that game. Is it just me or does the online game look like pretend 3d, which would really be the same as ja2? all the screen shots i have seen look just like super upgraded ja2. Im my dreams we could steal the graphics form JAmmo and slap them over ja2 1.13. yeah i know, time to wake up, but its still a nice dream.

I'd play it.

I'd also stay with 1.13 for now.
Hardly the new game will offer even half the fun 1.13 brings to the people.

Well after seeing several failed attempts at making a new jagged alliance game I was very skeptical of bitcomposer (taking away TBS did not really help). However after seeing the a three part trailer on gametrailers.com I am quite optimistic now, I think they will make a good game . For me jagged alliance was never just about TBS nor just the mercs; it was the overall experience that made the game so great. If Bitcomposer is able to give the same overall experience without TBS then that is okey for me.

And it would be nice of people stopped hating on the game and trashing it before we get a chance to play it, it is one thing to state that you are skeptical to the game and an other thing just trashing it as some members are doing (hating for the sake of hating). I am looking forward to this game and I hope I will not be disappointed.

Originally I was taking a similar stance (that it could turn out okay and to reserve judgement until its actually released) but their marketing efforts have managed to change my mind on it -- I've now basically written it off. I haven't been trashing it, but its gotten too hard to be optimistic about it. So I'm basically sitting back and seeing if they can somehow stop the train wreck (or at least fire whoever has been handling their public relations/marketing ).

It ends for me at. "We've taken out the Turn Based system and replaced it with a plan and go."

It's like making you keep tapping forward in Need for Speed. Sure it's a new twist but your fingers won't be happy.

It's just JA = Turn Based. And what they are making is 7.62 2 or 5.56 or some other rifle caliber.
They're selling something under a popular name and hope the fans will jump on it like starving wolves on a steak.

But they hung it in front of us a little too long and most of us can smell it's rotten. This is NOT Jagged Alliance.
They've turned this into a 7.62 or E5, but both of these combined don't come close to JA in number of sales. They're so pathetic E5 has a wikipedia page that fits on a post-it, and 7.62 doesn't even have one.
They've turned a money maker into a piece of (#&*^$)

Well, it seems the game is now pushed back to Q1 2012 instead of October this year.
http://www.jaggedalliance.com/en/2011/08/jagged-alliance-back-in-action-postponement-release/

I'm keeping an optimistic view of this. With this amount of time, I hope they can add a turn based system as optional to satisfy everyone. At the very least they have the time to iron out the bugs.

IMHO in a marketing point of view, this is a good move as they wont be competing with larger titles that will be released on Q4 2011.

Or... they could use that time to make the graphics even more super awesome! They could possibly even reach the standards of a year or two ago!

Sorry, that was too easy to resist Razz.

Oh dear God who art in Heaven... I never asked you ANYTHING (ok maybe a couple of things but most of them unimportant) but pleeeaseeeeeeee don't let anyone out there screw the best game ever.

If you have to let them crap the game bcause they prayed more... at least make them share the code so we can have a modded jagged alliance 3.

PS.- Dear Lord, I have Magic and Shadow on my side... you know where is this going.

When I saw the first pictures of JA:2 back in that part of the past that is called today "The Nineties" I thought that JA:2 is huge improvement compared to JA. When I saw recent pictures of JA BiA, Reloaded, whatever, I wondered what these games have to do with Jagged Alliance.

To me, JA always had to do with "weird guys (and girls) with guns (and worse)". It seems that today JA is developing on a more "military" path which I simply don't like.

Guys, there is still hope for the turn based genre. Check the Xenonauts, a modern remake of Xcom.

Now I'll go back to play Silent Storm and when I finish that I might install Wildfire 1.13 again... Smile

Isn't Xenonauts vaporware? I remember checking out their Web site a very long time ago, same "info" they have now.

And what's the deal with preorder (that makes me feel all dirty, like after visiting San Mona). UFO:AI is free, works now, has more graphics, has more actions, more inventory - jeez, I need to stop now before I get mad (again) and this "marketing" tactics stuff.

If you have something - anything - post a free (limited) download, don't just make a Web site and hope someone is going to buy your company because you *may* have something useful.

That must be some pretty awesome vapor if they can get an entire convention of people to think it exists ... maybe you should lay off the vapor in your pipe.

They have a download. That's what the pre-order is for. You basically become a beta tester. Very inventive way of funding an indie game if you ask me. I think paying 60 dollars for call of duty version 532.6 that lasts for 2 hours of play time is much more "dirty" than helping indie developers who want to sell turn based strategy games ...

People will complain about anything these days.

He, he, while I do like my pipe... hasn't BitComposer done the same for quite a while now? With more than just an entire convention of people by the way.

How about the other attempts of a JA remake before BC? You know, the ones which didn't make it? We saw plenty of real looking pictures from these.

If you have something then put up a demo for download, worked for JA2. If you want to impress for whatever reason, take pretty pictures/vids for press releases and conventions.

You are right, maybe times have changed and software developers came up with new ways to get their product to market.

Even though March is a long way from October, and unless they didn't update the progress info on their web site, the beta testers will have to wait even longer after they already put the money on the table.

I feel if they would have asked for donations and provided an open beta, it would have felt more sincere, but I can see that not everyone shares that view and I am cool with that.

Mount & Blade is a well know, quite successful game that was being sold long before it was finished. Minecraft is doing pretty well, too.

Desura recently made it an option for selected games, calling it "Alphafunding".

So, while not all such projects are successful, the model itself is not a con.

I rarely pre order a game. I find its best to wait for a game to release and be reviewed before I plunk down money. Just my 2 cents

There is actually loads of game on the market nowadays which have used and are using this alphafunding way of getting the game out. For an Indie studio it actually costs money for guys to end their day jobs to push the first game out so this is a great way to get the studio going and also get the community to participate in the developing process. A VIP ticket into the back room of development as you could say.

Some games that have used this model and done exceptionally well:

Minecraft
Terraria (I bought it on release)
Mount & Blade (bought before release, the second best modding scene after JA2 probably, best sword and shield battle system ever)

Some games coming out in near future using this system:

Xenonauts (preordered, pre-alpha kicks ass)
Project Zomboid (preordered, pre-alpha kicks ass, easy to mod) <- This is one of my most anticipated so far. 2D Isometric Zombie Survival RPG

Yes, for indie developers its getting more and more usual to fund their games like this and I don't see any problem with it.

I don't really do preorders, either, but I also tend to only buy games when they're discounted Razz. The thing with alphafunding (as good a term as any, may as well use it) is that the game is available to play, and you canget, if not formal reviews, at least user opinions.

Yes and because these indie guys actually love with what they are doing and like to please the community they actually make far better games imo than big studios. Not as visually good but usually gameplay wise pretty solid stuff. Mount & Blade looks damn ugly but the gameplay is the best I have seen in years...

Well according to BC there will be no modding so lets just leave this by the side of the road like we would any roadkill.

Just look for modding.

What is BIA? A quick cash-in by a developer hoping that enough people will buy it for it's name alone.

Mount & Blade was done by a husband and wife team. Not too shabby for a two person team when you think about it. I found the game entertaining and fun. Jury is still out for JA2:BIA. I'm hoping for a solid game but truth be told I'm expecting a let down. I hope they prove me wrong.

Thanks Slax.

The boxart looks very interesting. Is the front mercenary a Muslim? He is wearing a Keffiyeh. The propaganda floating around, some on flames, is a nice touch. I like the fact that the front mercenary has a shitty flame tattoo. To me, this seems as if the mercenaries will have creative personalities. I see L.B.E.!

Also, it looks as if they updated their site extensively.

I don't think you can draw that conclusion. Look at pictures from Iraq and Afghanistan, nearly every soldier there has one because they are just damn practical pieces of clothing to have in a desert environment.

Gotta stay open minded and think about both sides. Who is the aggressor?

Also, you can not base an opinion on a whole group from a small minority.

Come on bro, you are better than that.

people from another country/society openly refuses and fights the "resident" rules etc. i see it as aggression, your rules at your home, you deserve no rights here if you don't follow the rules, you weren't forced to come here, if you still persist in it face the consequences (racism and nationalist movements)

i base my opinion on what actually matters in my life, i don't care of the good big group if the small minority endangers me, open mindness towards smothing is not a right, is an offer, abuse it and you're done, nobody smart gives a second chance to be backstabbed

if there is a rotten apple in the basket, is the whole basket bad? no, but you want the rotten apple out of there, possibly before it spoils the rest
