hu? I have not done anything that would alter faces and voices. The only thing I did about mercs was to alter their starting gear, clothes and remvoing some "hated" notification. None of these would, for example, have Buns' face and voice appearing in game. Speech-files, in fact any sound files at all, aren't even part of the download. You said you wanted to make a fresh install because of the problems with maps. Did you do that, and can it be that you made something wrong then? When you have Buns (JA merc) appearing in place of Henning (WF merc) I guess you did not install WF properly. In particular because until yesterday you didn't seem to have those problems: you had made into Miguel's cellar means you had been able to talk to Fatima.
Didn't know that case sensitivity can be a problem in Linux, but this would only apply to items' big pictures which can be "GUN", "Gun", or "gun". But the only thing would be that the respective weapons, or their icons, would not appear in game.
--------------------------
Bug hunting:
- Fixed name of MAC 1924/29, StG 44 and Officer Belt.
- Could not reproduce bug with MAC 1924/29 having no sound for single shot. It's sound 129 and I can hear it.
- Fixed "7.65x53mm Mag, 5" icon not fitting LBE pocket.
- Fixed 7.92x57mm belt description
- Changed 9x18mm to 9x17mm
- Fixed Meltdown's and Fox' starting gear
- Fixed Danny's starting gear and trait: he had STOMP trait #16 (bodybuilding) despite the bio saying he is ambidex (STOMP 10). Gave him the trait ambidex and two FN HP-35 instead of the Webley.
- Double-checked Maddog, and I was wrong: the shotgun IS part of his gear, but I can confirm that it does not show up when hiring him. Additionally, the map editor crashes when trying to to view Maddog's inventory. Sollution: I removed the shotgun from his inventory and placed it into the crate.
- Changed graphics for Obregon, MP-34, and Star Mod B.
----------------------------
Quote:Why in the world would a guy like Maddog (someone who likes to shoot at everything) sell his shotgun for 20 bucks? That makes absolutely no sense at all... Why not? His daddy is dealing with shotguns (amongst other stuff), so Maddog is save to sell his and get a new one from Jake.

Bunshu? I have not done anything that would alter faces and voices. The only thing I did about mercs was to alter their starting gear, clothes and remvoing some "hated" notification. After your previous advice, I started a fresh new installation following the exact steps mentionned here : http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=266722#Post266722 (though I find weird to install JA2 Gold instead of retail WF...). So far, so good, Henning's face is correct.
THEN I install you mod by dropping your file in the Data-AIM-WF folder (right ?)... and suddenly, WF and MERC mercs start having problem, with inverted faces, bios, no speech files, etc. o_O
Did you by any change alter a file that matches a merc's stats, bio, pic, speech and equipment, perhaps ?
BunsWhen you have Buns (JA merc) appearing in place of Henning (WF merc) I guess you did not install WF properly. In particular because until yesterday you didn't seem to have those problems: you had made into Miguel's cellar means you had been able to talk to Fatima.
Yeah, that's the weirdest part of all...
I'm gonna install WF retail, then AIMNAS for WF, then your mod, and see what happens.
BunsDidn't know that case sensitivity can be a problem in Linux, but this would only apply to items' big pictures which can be "GUN", "Gun", or "gun". But the only thing would be that the respective weapons, or their icons, would not appear in game.
There's also one instance of two directories named "Mercedt" and "MercEdt". Their content do not get fusionned when trying ot overwrite one with another.
I believe most problems (including the missing MAC 1924/29 single shot sound for me) come from case problems : if a mod file is not case-sensitively the same as the file it is supposed to replace, the game will keep on using the old file.
Care must then be taken to use *exactly* the same case when creating modded files, and also when giving path names.
Okay, time to dive into yet another install attempt... I WANT to try out your mod !!

Logistericnothing - wf (retail) and 1.13 are bot comaptible
... on Windows !
But maybe some files have a different case between WF and 1.13... ? And anyway, one more attempt can't do any harm...

Alright, I've dropped the files from SCI_SVN1252_MPSVN3944_Vanilla113_20101204.7z on top of a fresh JA2 Gold installation.
Since my filesystem is case-sensitive, I end up with both ja2.exe (Vanilla) and Ja2.exe (v1.13).
Running the game with Ja2.exe, I get the following, non-blocking messages at startup :

I started a new game in novice (to speed combats up), recruited Henning (no problem with face, bio or speech) only, as MERC is not available yet, and dropped into Omerta. I dispatched the ennemies, talked to Fatima, and gave her the letter. No problem.
Next step : drop the files from WF6.06-AIMNASV14 EN.7z into the intalled directory.

My download contains the following files:
- Icons for the new/changed weapons in tilesets/0, Interface and Bigitems
- Changed maps (saved by the name they have in WF 6.0, means there would be problems with upper cases as well)
- The NPC datas for Miguel and Carlos
- Various altered XMLs. Of these only MercProfiles could possibly cause any troubles with faces, even though I had not touched ubFaceIndex in any case.
There are no soundfiles, neither speech nor weapon-sounds. All sounds I use are part of standard JA/1.13/SCI/AIM/WF (can't name the source for each one) that you should have on your PC when having everything else properly installed.
I do not have retail WF installed on my PC. I have installed JA2 Gold, installed 1.13 (can't say which one, but it must be one of the versions from end of last year/beginning of this year), installed smeagol's AIMNAS WF over it, and then modded the files.
Try the following: install everything as it says, save for MercProfiles.XML from my mod.

I've installed WF6.06-AIMNASV14 EN by dropping the files into my JA2 directory.
I start the game with JA2_3884_NIIC.exe and get the following non-blocking messages :

Again, I start a game in novice, open up my laptop... and get greeted by some hot chick !
However, the WF mercs have neither face (Vicky's face is used as a placeholder) nor names, and clicking on their profile causes the game to crash (CTD). Speck speech is alright though...
Funny thing : if I start the game using the previous Ja2.exe, on-assignement Biff's face is used for WF mercs...
What strikes me is that I'm pretty sure I did NOT get this behavior last time I tried the same setup. Only after I installed Buns' mod did I notice any problem...
I'm not sure if going through the next step (= updating AIMNAS to v15) can do any good, but I may try later anyway unless someone comes with a better suggestion.

@ Buns :
Yeah, that's weird.
When I first started to try your mod some days ago, I dropped your files on an existing, *months-old* install (that I may or may not have tweaked into working, can't remember), and it ran pretty fine, except for the item/map problem.
*Yesterday*, I started a clean install following the aforementionned instructions and everything was okay until I dropped in your files.
But *today*, following the same instructions again, mess starts after I drop AIMNAS' files, not yours... o_O
@ Lockie :
Why install Buns' mod ? Well... to try it, maybe, and do some bug reporting for Buns ?
@ JMich :
Yup, I guess case is the culprit, but there are so many files to check... However, I've already spotted some differences between Data, Data-1.13, Data-AIM and Data-AIM-WF :

Shall I drill further... ?
And before you ask, I tried to rename ALL files to uppercase (using krename) before dropping them onto the others, but the result was even worse, causing the game to crash, as some files apparently NEED to be in a given exact case.

breversaWhen I first started to try your mod some days ago, I dropped your files on an existing, *months-old* install (that I may or may not have tweaked into working, can't remember), and it ran pretty fine, except for the item/map problem. But you do still have that old install? In this case, backup your files, drop mine into it, check the "Profiles" folder for additional map, table-data, whatever files, rename those and everything should be fine.

@ Buns :
It's getting weirder and weirder : I dropped your files on a copy of my previous game ; it runs fine, Henning has his right face... but his equipment seems weird : he can no longer choose any FG-42, but MP40 or Carl Gustav SMG instead. Same goes for Ivan, who gets PPSh-41s instead of his DP machine-gun...
What's more, Len's face gets replaced by... Henning's (same goes for other mercs), and MERC is not available from the start... o_O

Oh... you're right : I dropped WW2WM onto an already BAG-Pro modded game... Any way I can revert that mod ?

Again, you're right : I dropped the files straight into my JA folder. However, that folder only has Data and Data-1.13, while I'm pretty sure it has AIMNAS too (but an older version)...
In which folder am I supposed to drop the files then, since I don't have any Data-AIM nor Data-AIM-WF ?

@ Wolf00
The game always shows you the last gear you had seen when calling the file of that merc. When you had made changes to merc gear, or applied a complete new file, you need to click on the button for gear-selection to have that updated.
breversaEverything is fine now... well... except some mercs faces are still off (Gus has Brain's face, Len has Henning's and Wolf has Grace's), but I can live without it. hmm, that's not good because it might be a sign for other things being broken too. I don't how faces are assigned, others than by MercProfiles.XML, but you should take a look what is going wrong in your install.
Quote:- In B9, I found an Ithaca (and sawed-off) shotgun that can accept modern attachements. Yes, some of the original weapons still have the 1.13 attachment slots. This applies to the revolvers, shotguns, and I think to the SIG MP41/44. It is rather cosmetical because you should not find any of those attachements. Anyways, I going to remove the obsolete attachment slots for those as well.

To answer my own question inhowfar the changes to garrisons affect gameplay: it seems I have more and larger battles now. When attacking Cambria Mine sector I had the Mother of all Battles with no less than 90 enemies involved (32 were the garrision, another 32 came from a force just passing by, the rest came from Cambria SAM). And that was no DCA with prepared positions, but me attacking an enemy sector at full daylight. I realy was lucky to have gotten away with just 4 mercs seriously wounded.
BTW, when using Mondragon rifles you always should keep some spare examples at 100%: that day when attacking Cambria I had a total of 10 battles, five with patrols between Drassen and Cambria, and five inside Cambria. Because of its very low reliability the Mondragon degrades very fast and starts jamming quite early.
I indeed had some cases of jamming Mondragons in the 9th battle, despite starting the day with weapons as 100% and despite all SMG and MGs still were working. I had brought everything I had stocked with me from Drassen, including a couple of reserve rifles and issued those instead for the 10th battle.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I'm expecting problems when recruiting NPC or talking with dealers, maybe... But at least it allows me to play rather correctly !

Holy sh*t ! Talk about challenging !
The least I can say about your mod is that it's brutal and unforgiving ! High-power, long-range, slow firing weapons and next to no armor and somewhat weak shooting aids make it so that average or bad shooters quickly end dead, unless you're extra careful...
Expect big battles with many ennemies : I had to defend the southernmost sector of Omerta against 26 then 16 ennemies with only Henning and the 4 rebels (I like to play with few or no AIM mercs) where a combination of S/MG suppressive fire and carefully aimed rifle shots did wonders, just like in real life. However, many ennemies not necessarily means long battles : one-shot kills (or critical wounds) are very common !
Slow-firing bolt-action rifles also underline the usefulness of handguns for close-range defense. They also put more emphasis on keeping your mercs in high health : while a moderately-wounded (but bandaged) merc could still be of some help in JA2 AIMNAS with a fast-firing weapon and good attachments, in WW2WM, wounded mercs become next to useless.

breversaThe least I can say about your mod is that it's brutal and unforgiving ! High-power, long-range, slow firing weapons and next to no armor and somewhat weak shooting aids make it so that average or bad shooters quickly end dead, unless you're extra careful... The one thing is that you definitly need to avoid being shot at. The AI anyways has the tendency to work wonders even with pistols. Here enemies are mostly armed with highly accurate bolt-action rifles and will most likely hit you when they start shooting. And with no armour every hit is critical, in particular when being shot out of a Mauser rifle and the like weapons.
The other thing is that you need to take care for a proper mix of weapons. I found a good combination for a squad of six to be 3x rifle, 2x SMG, 1x LMG. Some SMGs, like the ZK, have a rather good range. This still doesn't allow for aimed shooting on longer ranges, but makes bursting on medium range a bit more usefull. Otherwise you should have at least one MG, and need to make proper use of it. I have now hired Henning with his MG-42, and this one realy can rule the field placed on the right spot.
And yes, it is absolutly mandatory that each merc has an additional pistol with him. Most weapons are very slow firing, and rifles only have very small magazines. You will find yourself more than once being required to draw your pistol (NB: do not aim at heads, the enemy has very good helmets that you wont be able to pierce with 9mm).

@breversa and anyone else playing this under wine: I exerted myself a little and got this mod to work correctly. I wrote a simple utility to change the all the file and directory names to lower case. I then lowercased a clean Gold install and separately assembled all the mod parts after lowercasing them as well. I rolled up the separate parts into an archive that is roughly equivalent to Chatners SCI + WWII that also works on linux/wine. I've only tested this a little so I apologize for any bugs that are my fault. This should work on a non lowercased clean Gold install, but I haven't tried that.
wf-aimnasv15-ww2_en.7z
lowercase.py accepts one argument, the root directory to convert
#!/usr/bin/env python
import os, sys
if __name__ == "__main__":
for (dirpath, dirnames, filenames) in os.walk(sys.argv[1], topdown = False):
for item in filenames+dirnames:
target = os.path.join(dirpath, item)
lower = os.path.join(dirpath, item.lower())
os.rename(target, lower)
@buns: I'm pretty certain there is something wrong with some of the tabledata/*xml probably one of the merc ones, but I was unable to pinpoint which one. I got it to work by overwriting all but mercstartinggear.xml from data-aim-wf/tabledata. I strongly encourage you to use the vfs-config.*.ini. The current method is messy.
Now I'm off to play it!!!

breversa- In E9 I found a stun grenade and a walkman. Are they supposed to exist in WW2WM ? No. noted.
pyg@buns: I'm pretty certain there is something wrong with some of the tabledata/*xml probably one of the merc ones, but I was unable to pinpoint which one. I got it to work by overwriting all but mercstartinggear.xml from data-aim-wf/tabledata. This is hard to say without knowing what exactly is going wrong for you. For example, MercStartingGear only affects the selectable gears of the mercs, as well as those of the M.E.R.C. guys and the NPCs/RPCs. As long as you have them correctly appearing with WWII stuff instead of the modern stuff, everything is fine with it. For me this file is working properly, and because I already had got feedback on the changes in MSG I would think that it is also working for others.
MercStartingGear, MercProfiles and the two attachment-XMLs are also the only XMLs I had been editing by hand. The others were modded with the XML-editor, what means if they would be somehow broken the editor wouldn't even start (in fact when starting this it didn't because of a bad entry in Items.XML).
----------------------------------------
Fixes:
- Revised the stats of revolvers: now the .38er SW again is the weakest weapon in game, while the Webley now is a bit more usefull than it had been.
- Revised the stats of the Sterling, STENs, and MP40: it was close to impossible to hit anything on autofire with them because of the folding stocks. The STENs also were using the value for "range" in "damage" and vice versa.
- Revised the stats of the High Standard HDM to have it fitting the other weapons.
- Removed obsolete attachment solts from the revolvers, shotguns and the SIG MP41/44.
