Yes, put the final nail in the coffin of any oldschool modder who dares think the 1.13 has anything left for him.

'Good' idea.

i don't understand your statement - if you are modding 1.13 you can emulate whatever oiv (call it oiv deLuxe if you like) on top of it - but for what on earth should any parllel code be good?

the problem for modders is in my eyes that many of them can't refrain from exe-hacking and thus make it next to impossible to update their mods without doing that exe-hacking again and again.

to the contrary doing the oiv (-emulation) by means of vfs reduces the changes for bugs as the engine has not to check for two different systems.

sorry, i really don't get your point

I mean, it is already a huge turn off to have to choose the regular inventory system over new content. Making this step even more complicated is the exact opposite of what those of us who don't use the niv want.

I have always refrained from hacking the exe because I don't want compatibility issues or potential instability I have always seen in mods that use hacked exes.

Maybe I'm not really getting you here but you talk about relegating oiv stuff to a whole separate folder. In your idea, does it still just require one click to have an oiv version or is it more involved than that?

of course it's just one click (i already found a volunteer to do the 'machinery' for it) - the problem is the 'strategic' issue about chanching some vfs-stuff. unfortunately next to noone uses vfs as it is supossed to, so why not use it in a way that allows to make the code less vulnerable.

and believe the player looses no single option that way - it's just done differently, you could say it's done the mac-way - no backward compatibility but a working old-stuff-emulator for free.

Mac way? As in Apple system Macintosh? Man you have a knack for making stuff sound extremely undesirable.

For instance, the whole 'abandon OIV

MIf it's still just one annoying click to get to the version I want to play it's no big deal. If it makes anything easier for users of either version all the better.

that is exactly the idea

... and a strange headline guarantees readers: ... btw, would you read a thread 'some well considered thaughts on how 1.13-devs should handle strategic planing in order to avoid and/or erase unnecessary code'?

Yes. I would. But I guess I'm funny like that. Sensationalistic schlock usually gets the pan from me.

But yeah, if it's still just one click I think the idea might have serious merit.
