So, is that the same model that is in 1.13? They actually provide some real cost data:

"...cost some $25,000 and $1,000 apiece, respectively, are still being made by hand."

Yes, it is.
But unless we get the full air burst capabilities of XM25 (and XM29), it's essentially just a weaker variant of the 40mm and doesn't warrant that high a price.

i think this would be one case, where the game-engine is showing its limits.
and i don't think that there would be a workaround even in the new JA.

i'd expect that major engine modifications are neccessary to implement controlled mid air burst.

Workaround in the form of XML hacking? No. Implementing it properly in the source? Should be relatively straight forward to tell a grenade to explode over tile x instead of upon hitting tile y. Aiming could be tricky and with only 2 airburst weapons around, it has a very low priority ... but doable it should be.

Read: Not gonna happen any time soon, but maybe one day.

This could be a new fire-mode for launcher-type weapons - air-burst, time-delay and impact-fuse settings.

Air burst is not so rare for other weapons as well. Believe it or not, we have them with the 40mm to be used with the M203 and the MK19. They are seperate round types and cannot be interchanged between the two weapons.

A MK19 going full auto can already decimate a tree line. Short lived fun though as it runs through the ammo very quickly, even if you have a mounted ammo can. One of my favorite weapons in the field. Ma-Duece still takes that special place in my heart though.
