@Logon:
bugfixing will take a while since I'm involved in several other projects. The missing npc problem can be worked around by frequent saving/loading.
Most DOS games though can be played with the Dosbox ports for android... performance is sometimes bad, but sometimes it works out nicely.
EDIT: I suggest the Exult (Ultima7 & Serpent Isle) ports (there should be two available, one SDL and one Java/Dalvik). Ultima 7 on tablets rocks!

after several hours of play i have to confirm : JA2 on GS2 is as fun and playable as on a PC.
I've replaced the original battery by a 2600 mA and renamed the music file then its more reasonable.
i wonder how playable it would be with the pen and the huge screen of a Galaxy Note. Maybe direct mouse targetting would become possible.

Hi,
I just wanted to let know that it works wonderful on my Acer Iconia Tab.
As a side note, for those who doesn't know this freeware, I used "Bulk rename Utility" to rename all the files to lower case in one click.

O.M.G.
I'm so unbelievably happy to read you've done this!!
I have the Linux build of JA2, will the data files from this work fine as well?
Well I found my windows copy and copied the data directory from the CD onto the /sdcard/app-data/com.opensourced.ja2 / folder. (and yes I changed it all to lowercase)
the game launches waits a few seconds then closes, this is on my Gnote.
One question I do have is what is this "Stracciatella" ?
My CD's for JA2 dont have that word on them anywhere...
Is it possible i have a different version?

Oh and my vote goes to Fallout/Fallout2 as well. _loved_ those games!
Is there some way we could thank you for the good work?

@senectus:
Quote:Any idea's on how to scroll around the map without using the minimap?
The minimap is not terribly accurate and makes for frustrating gameplay.
I use the touchpad mode (relative mouse cursor movement) so I can move the cursor to the screen edges to scroll. Depending on you phone I suggest you try the same.
Alternatively you can position softkeys for the cursor-keys to scroll that way, but it takes some effort to get the keys positioned nicely. If you have a phone with a hardware joystick or trackball-thingy you can use that too if you configure it to map on the cursor-keys.
@all:
Regarding other ports, I will continue the Dune2 port after I'm done with my master thesis. And if the Syndicate Linux port is done someday I might try that one as well.
You can step by this site from another porter (lubomyr) http://anddev.at.ua/ he also did some nice ports like SCUMMVM_sdl (play DayOfTheTentacle, MonkeyIsland, LegendOfKyrandia, LandsOfLore, etc.), Milkytracker, C64emu, AmigaEmu, Dosbox and quake1. (I'm not affiliated with him in any way)
And the quake3 port is worth checking out too http://code.google.com/p/kwaak3/ runs extremely smooth, but is very hard to play without an bluetooth joystick.
I currently don't have a blog/website and prefer to post on the ported games' forums if possible. That way I do not have to worry about maintenance and users can support each other more easily.

The English version runs great on my note. The German version does not work.

OK I got it working pretty much the way I want it! Thanks heaps!
One thing I would like to request, though I'm not sure if you can do it, is the ability to scroll the map around by using two (or three) fingers on the screen.
The moving the cursor to the edge of the viewable map makes for a hell of a lot of scraping the screen.
BTW guys, this tool is very helpful for batch renaming (ie all lowercase) ***note, a mate of mine wrote it***

Hi,
This looks awesome and made me register to the site. I am aching to test it, but can it be done on Galaxy tab 10.1? It does not have an sd slot, will it work?

Hi kpp, it works on Galaxy Tab 7, so I think it will work on 10.1 too.
Hi Omni. =) 3500+ downloads says more than words. Do you know that at least one man went through the whole game on Galaxy Tab 7?

Hi Legion, the problem is getting to a tab without an sd slot(yes, the Galaxy tab 10.1 doesnt have one). I am no expert in these matters, will it work some other way, putting it in a certain place in the harddrive?

Ok, thanks for the quick reply. So where do I put the data? Just on the root in folder /sdcard/app-data/com.opensourced.ja2/?

@Waterbaan
Nice to hear it runs on your tablet now. But it should run very smooth even on the slowest devices of the android family. Please check your config for video on the start screen (where you can set up controls), try out different combinations (like smoothing on/off, threaded video on/off, 4:3 on/off, etc.). You should be able to get it running at full speed. I've not had any reports of slowdowns since RC2 is out.
You might also consider manually stopping CPU intense apps running in the background, if you have any (firefox/fennec(!), music player, etc.)
(EDIT:) You can also deactivate the in-game music by deleting/renaming the music.slf file in your data directory. This might also bring a small speed increase, but as already said: it should not be required. Your Xoom has a better CPU than my phone, and probably even dual-core.
