Right, first off, I don't see a search function for this forum, so apologies if this question comes up a lot.
Second, I'm running 1.13 with HAM (most recent all-in-one install), but haven't posted in that subforum since I don't think it affects this.
anyway, I've just cleaned out tixa in a protracted battle where I must've been outnumbered 5 to 1, and have come across shank and dynamo. I came here specifically to free dynamo so that alma's mine foreman would up his financial aid.
Now that I've found him, I can't recruit him! He just keeps repeating 'just leave me alone!' in some vaguely traumatised tone of voice.
I understand he's meant to rattle through some backstory first, but I've yet to get that. Tried all the dialogue options.
Shank is similarly stubborn.
I've heard theories that leadership skill matters....best I've got on site is Reaper with 40 points. I also have raider higgins with his 90 points, but he's miles away bolstering defenses around the drassen sam site, and even then I've heard people trying and failing with him also.
Any ideas?

Already spoken to him yeah, and had it added to my history log.
In fact, this is my first playthrough, so I'd have had no idea if he hadn't told me.
also, I just loaded up my savegame to experimentally cart raider over to the prison. Took long enough. But no, he doesn't work either.
I also then ran the clock forward by another 12 hours to see if he needed time to....calm down. No effect.

Hi, just for the record I'm now running the most recent release (plus the hotfix) of 113 and this is still doing the same thing.
This time round I've fielded a cutom team of imps, and my boss (Hannibal) is specifically kitted out as a leader. Maxed out in leadership (87) and wisdom, given him the squadleader and teacher traits.....I have at least managed to hire shank this time, maybe this is why.
However, no joy with dynamo. I have tried reloading a save made just before talking to him in case there is an element of randomness. No luck. Unless any randomness that may be there is not calculated before talking to him, but when you initially enter the dungeon map.
What do we know about the triggers that are meant to fire. Are any of them time related?
I spent a couple of days training a garrison to protect alma, but after that headed out immediately. My campaign is 14 days in.
Failing all else, is there some kind of hack to set the triggers? I feel a bit hard done by, and by the sounds of it I suspect this is as much a bug as deliberate scripting.

In
Jagged Alliance 2 1.12
The player has to talk to Matt before hiring Dynamo.
I do not know if this is dependent on difficulty though.

In my last game.
He would not join regardless of who talked to him.
I took a little sidetrack to his bro's residence and voila he joined.
Explain that one then.
Also,

I dont get any kind of story, just 'leave me alone' on an endless loop, regardless of which line of questioning I take.
