Right, first off, I don't see a search function for this forum, so apologies if this question comes up a lot.
Second, I'm running 1.13 with HAM (most recent all-in-one install), but haven't posted in that subforum since I don't think it affects this.

anyway, I've just cleaned out tixa in a protracted battle where I must've been outnumbered 5 to 1, and have come across shank and dynamo. I came here specifically to free dynamo so that alma's mine foreman would up his financial aid.

Now that I've found him, I can't recruit him! He just keeps repeating 'just leave me alone!' in some vaguely traumatised tone of voice.

I understand he's meant to rattle through some backstory first, but I've yet to get that. Tried all the dialogue options.

Shank is similarly stubborn.

I've heard theories that leadership skill matters....best I've got on site is Reaper with 40 points. I also have raider higgins with his 90 points, but he's miles away bolstering defenses around the drassen sam site, and even then I've heard people trying and failing with him also.

Any ideas?

Already spoken to him yeah, and had it added to my history log.
In fact, this is my first playthrough, so I'd have had no idea if he hadn't told me.

also, I just loaded up my savegame to experimentally cart raider over to the prison. Took long enough. But no, he doesn't work either.

I also then ran the clock forward by another 12 hours to see if he needed time to....calm down. No effect.

Not need to talk to Matt first.
Dynamo will mentioned him in his speech.
Matt gladly wanna see me, or something like that.

Let him talk about his situation and about his son.
If not talk about that he aint willing to join you.

And ... refuse his offer for 50 Bucks.

Oh, what the hell.
Just feed me ones in a while Very Happy

Hi, just for the record I'm now running the most recent release (plus the hotfix) of 113 and this is still doing the same thing.

This time round I've fielded a cutom team of imps, and my boss (Hannibal) is specifically kitted out as a leader. Maxed out in leadership (87) and wisdom, given him the squadleader and teacher traits.....I have at least managed to hire shank this time, maybe this is why.

However, no joy with dynamo. I have tried reloading a save made just before talking to him in case there is an element of randomness. No luck. Unless any randomness that may be there is not calculated before talking to him, but when you initially enter the dungeon map.

What do we know about the triggers that are meant to fire. Are any of them time related?
I spent a couple of days training a garrison to protect alma, but after that headed out immediately. My campaign is 14 days in.

Failing all else, is there some kind of hack to set the triggers? I feel a bit hard done by, and by the sounds of it I suspect this is as much a bug as deliberate scripting.

there is no "need" loya nowhere
You don't need to have the quest or liberate Alma, or speak to Matt

You need a "friendly" char with high leadership (80 is enough - I all ways use an friendly IMPress with 80+)

sometimey You must free him first or dress his wounds before

As long as nobody changed anything that will do it or it is a bug.

Incorrect. I've hired him multiple times before without taking any cities at all.

Bullshit.

In
Jagged Alliance 2 1.12
The player has to talk to Matt before hiring Dynamo.

I do not know if this is dependent on difficulty though.

Just made two quick ctrl-gabbi test games, hiring an imp and Raider.

In these games, I could hire Dynamo without having spoken to Matt first, and also after having spoken to Matt. It seems that he goes bonkers in some games and not in others.

I seem to recall some years-old topics about his script being very buggy.

Me too, several times. I usually play "living off the land" without taking any cities in my games, and getting Dynamo + Shank early (and Dimitri Razz) is pretty crucial to that.

T.T. King
Bullshit.

In this topic there is only one user bullshitting around

and this user s(h)its in the known universe

It was NEVEREVER necessary to have been in Alma or have spoken to Matt.

The only weird things were

-sometimes You have to break the celllock before hiring him
-sometimes You have to bandage him first
-sometimes (very very rare) he has a stroll on the map

and this was the case from 1.0 to Gold (including retailWF)

He always went along with a friendly 80+loya person

Btw I usualy adress Matt with him after liberating Alma
- a personal joke and a silly giggle on my site when Matt tells Dynamo to free Dynamo in Tixa
- and the easiest way to get more than 1 Commandosilencer in retailWF

Edith, Judith, Gwyneth and Lillith in chorus: "Gorro got a laughing fit when reading it could be difficultyrelated. There is nothing difficultyrelated with quests in JA2"

In my last game.

He would not join regardless of who talked to him.

I took a little sidetrack to his bro's residence and voila he joined.

Explain that one then.

Also,

It is not King.

The only BS'er is indeed the one that started the BS-calling (yes, that's you tao).

Test Setup: JA2 Gold
Hired Gus, went straight to Tixa, evading the patrols on the way. Slept a bit to be fresh for the fight Wink , wiped out the garrison first thing in the morning, recruited Dynamo -> done.

Explain that.
