Updating 1.13 via SVN - Is it safe?[message #280814] Thu, 26 May 2011 19:19 Go to next message

Hi all,

I'd like to use SVN to update my 1.13 Build 3356 to the latest available and stable exe, but I got a few questions on that before I start doing this.
I ran SVN a while ago (maybe one year ago?), and it worked fine, except of some minor problems:

It seemed to mess up my weapons.xml a little, because I did some minor changes on it (added a gun, modified some weapon stats). I cannot remember many details, but the "Beretta Cx4 Storm" (which was new, SVN added it to the weaps xml) got a wrong picture, and some other things.

So, meanwhile I did A LOT of changes - reworked almost ALL important .xml files (such as facilities, weapons, army), added some new guns, changed some animation.sti, added sounds, and so on. (Oh, and especially the ja.ini took hours and hours to get a suitable balance).

What will happen to those changes and customizations when updating via SNV? Last time it didn't seem very compatible to user-made changes.
Will new features/bugfixes/xmls et cetera be added without changing the existing file contents? And if not - is there a fast and safe way to import user-made changes to the updated game files - I really don't want to redo all the work step by step.

Thx,

Durak

Yeah, downloaded it!

Thanks to all people involved, looks really nice! I like the camo faces, and the NAS is great, too.

And at the same time I don't like it, cause this is where my problem starts:

My old, modified items.xml and weapons.xml are incompatible with the new xml editor - and probably with the game, too; guess because the NCTH section is missing.

Is there a quick way to modify my custom xmls (or the game) so I can use them with the new release?

The others - like facilities, army composition - are no problem, I can redo the changes manually, but weaps and items... oh, man, I put so much work in these...

Copy/paste and search/replace will do for custom XML data transfer Very Happy And use Notepad++, not the XML editor.

@Gorro

Thanks again!

I did't find the time to try winmerge yet, but I looked at the program description and screenshots - looks really useful!

It should be added to the JA2-Tools-Section!
