hi,

I've come back to JA2 after a few years, using the new release [4452]. Enjoying the various changes and improvements but there's one thing I'm wondering about. Hits seem to result in loss of attribute points a lot more frequently than I remember. In the past I remember the occasional catastrophic hit that would result in loss of 20 Wisdom or whatever - usually the signal to reload your last save. But now it seems like every other hit results in a few points being shaved off various attributes and half my mercs now have attribute numbers in red (on day 3!). It seems almost like something that goes along with ordinary damage - 2 points off agility, 3 off dexterity etc.

So my question is, has anything changed in the latest version or am I misremembering the way it was?

Also, when an attribute loses points in this way, can they ever go back up? If "max health" is reduced, is that it, this is now as high as it can go?

Hello Nordenfelt, Welcome to the Pit
There's the value DAMAGE_NEEDED_TO_LOSE_STATS in Skills_Settings.ini which is set very low by default (meaning even scratches have a chance for stat loss). You can regain your points under the new trait system by performing surgery or training, under the old system, only the latter is possible. Search for 'STOMP' to learn more.

The 'cap' for stats is always 100, no matter how many crits you received.

Only mercs with "Paramedic" or "Doctor" skill trait can do surgery, to heal some lost HP instantly and to "repair" lost stats. If the surgery didn't repaired all lost stats, then assign the merc as "patient" and the merc with the mentioned trait as his doctor and the stats will be gained back even when the merc is at full HP.

The lost stats will be displayed in red color until they'll be repaired, or trained back the hard way.

Welcome to the pit.

OK, so I take it STOMP is part of 1.13 in the same way HAM is? I was looking for whatever controlled this setting in the INI Editor, didn't realise it was in a separate ini file. My first instinct is to put DAMAGE_NEEDED_TO_LOSE_STATS back to its original value of 30, but I'll maybe have a look at how this trait system works. I guess one thing it means is you really, really need to have an actual doctor on the team, not just someone with medical skill.

Thanks for the help.
