Hey guys,

Are you also encountering the little bug of enemy corpses dissapearing right after you've killed them? Could someone point me in the direction of a fix for this bug?

I'm using walnut 0.12 (build 04.12.02)

I think the missing dead bodies bug happened in 0.12 and was fixed by Tron just after. The problem may be that there never was an official update where the bug was fixed.

bbun has a Mac OS X version more recent than 0.12 on his site, and provides advices to build ja2 yourself from the source code:
http://ja2.monkeyphysics.com/home/osx.

The official 0.12 release is the development version r5970.
Since bug was fixed in r6373, you want an unofficial binary built on this one or more recent, or download the source code from the development repository and try to build the ja2 program yourself.

I think the enemies don't climb roofs in 0.12 either, while they do just after (r7056).

I've got the current version from https://launchpad.net/~bojo42/+archive/ja2-stracciatella , so version 7072, installed on ubuntu 10.04.
The game works fine, but the bodies disappear here too. The vultures later are there, but bodies disappear after death. The posts in the forum make me think it had been fixed, but not for me?! Gore is activated, of course.

it has nothing to do with the code. its a fault with the gamedir folder. we also had that problem in 1.13. jusr reinstall ja2 and then apply the mod.

It was a bug introduced in stracciatella 0.12 and Tron fixed it. The bug existed for less than a month but it was unfortunately present in the last official release.

If you don't use 0.12, the other possibility is indeed a missing data file.
If you reinstall the data and it still doesn't work, I think you get the name of the missing file in the tons of logs on screen or in one of the log files.
Some data files are missing from the release CDs for some of the languages. For example Tron didn't have the dying sounds of the Bloodcats on his German CD.

Edit:
And convert all your data files and folder names to lower case on Unix systems.

For the record (if someone else has this problem too):

I had the same issue with my android port. To see the bodies of killed enemies, assert that you have these files in your tilecache folder:
c_dead1.jsd
c_dead1_nb.jsd
cp_dead1.jsd
cp_dead1_nb.jsd
ct_dead1.jsd

If you have these files there, maybe your tilecache folder is not all lowercase.

Dunno if anyone is still interested but anyway I'll clarify a bit: although the game can store an unlimited amount of dead bodies, there is a limit of 100 bodies to display and to handle the rotting process.

The limit can be easily increased by changing the line 144 in file Build/Tactical/Rotting_Corpses.h and recompiling (it would not affect the saves).

Corpses are automatically removed after 3 days during sector loading. Note: maybe the crows also leave some kind of invisible corpses, do not kill them save the wild nature of Arulco.

If anyone has troubles with corpses leave sector, wait 3 days, load it back and try to make some dead bodies. If bug will continue to annoy you - send me your save file, I'll try to investigate it.

Maybe your problem could be solved by using a newer build?

The last (unofficial) Stracciatella .exe for Windows users which was released for the public was compiled by Ddass "ja2stra-r7059hotfix3" and can be found here:

http://kermi.pp.fi/JA_2/Stracciatella/Releases/Updates/Windows/

Good luck!

Best regards; Schein

Hello again!
Scheinworld

Yep, the problem solved for Windows XP, dead bodies appeared, even bodies of the enemies killed in old version appeared when I loaded save in ja2stra-r7059hotfix3.
One thing that cocern me is that game said something about loaded savegame was saved in other version, but I hope everything will be good.

Thanks a lot, Scheinworld!

Yeah, it should be good. The game either converts the save successfully or tells you outright that it can't.

Hi guys!

I have the same problem. Enemy corpses disappear immediately upon hitting the ground. All data files are installed (from the GoG version), all are lowercase.

I use the latest Walnut build, r7059, on Arch Linux 64-bit, latest SVN revision installed.

Is there maybe also a fixpack like for the Windows exe for the source code itself, so I can compile it on Linux?

Check to see if you have the "tilecache" folder in your "data" folder. Then post the contents.

I have the tilecache folder, all the files listed by omni_graphical are there. At work now, if needed I'll post the contents from home.

I read there are newer versions but that Tron hasn't updated his site in a long time. Anyone know where I could download those? Edit: dound them here https://launchpad.net/~bojo42/+archive/ja2-stracciatella/+packages , I'll try this when I get home.

Hi,

I have resolved many tileset issues by installing the latest vanilla patch before Stracciatella. I had bought an old version, where barry costs 1200 a day or something, not long ago. The releases are not nescessarily on the latest version, no matter how long the patches are published. Stracciatella did not display the line of sight hint properly. I have got the feeling, that the dead bodies thing can be resolved similarily, but no promise.

The issue is suddenly fixed, I don't know what exactly happened. removing all versions and compiling the Tron SVN trunk did the trick - it seems that SVN is up to date after all (7072). Thanks for the help guys!

Now only to get the 800x600 mod to work...
