Pas, if you don't mind me asking, which program are you using to make these animations?

Oh and btw I can't see the previews in the first page, you probably need to upload them somewhere else.

It does indeed , look to the Vengeance and Vengeance Reloaded 1.13 versions . Not quite perfect as it starts halfway down the screen , but a pleasant change to the 'rope drop' !

While I agree that airborne attacks would be ultra-cool (and extra-dangerous), why would someone attack an anti-air installation using aerial transportation? The whole point of these Surface-to-Air Missiles is shooting at flying things, so I reckon it'd be best for her to sneak in her commandos the usual way so they can take out the SAM personnel so the airborne troops can attack sectors formerly denied by lethal long range anti-air rockets. Instead of... flying towards the thing that was only designed to kill anything that flies towards it.

But yes, parachutes would be cool.

Why indeed!? First of all because she is an insane dictator and her soldiers are scared shitless of her, thinking they have better chances of survival attacking you than crossing her word!? And second you can't shot down with missiles everything that flies, specially during the night, 3rd - adds a lot of flavour! i don't expect all of the attackers to survive, some of them are going to be dead before the landing, but you woun't know how many and the rest (mike type commandos) are going to land right in middle where you don't want them, bringing havoc. Don't ruin the game story please!

But, Maalstrom, how is making the game harder ruining the storyline? If people are afraid this would ruin the game for them, why don't make paratroopers optional? I mean zombies are optional in one of the latest SVN builds, whoever wants them, enables them. Easy as that.

Oh that! Yeah, true, this woman never fails to dissapoint being a ruthless dictator. Sure she'll let them jump out of the plane to regain control regardless of SAM site or not... with or without parachutes. And I'm sure Eliot gets a beating just for telling her troops can't fly while burning like a crisp.

As far as i understood, all of Pasha's new animations that are completed AND to which Sandro or whoever did the necessary coding to make them usable in game - those working animations are already in the SVN repository.
So everybody should be able to get those working animations from there. Smile

Dunno where to put this...

I have recently found the alternative pistol shooting animation for small mercs.
http://s9.postimage.org/89j6d4v97/S_N_SHOT2.gif

While the standard...
http://s14.postimage.org/7945w0a59/S_N_SHOT.gif

...is used in game by now.

Everyone probably noticed the alternate animation for big mercs were made 1.13 standard:
http://s12.postimage.org/jphljz0rd/M_N_SHOT.gif

I have no clue who created the animations, if not PasHancock.
My question is, whether someone knows what is planned with the small merc alternative animation?
Or how people would like it?

I may come to implement both - simple or complicated way. But dunno in which way.

Just to use the alternative animation you don't have to code anything. Just go to the data\anims\s_merc\ folder and replace "S_N_SHOT.gif" with "S_N_SHOT.gif.bak", which is in there. It should work, I presume.

That's why I am asking - why is it not used when it is there? When it is used for big merc? (Well I haven't tested it though, it may be flawed.)

I can (if desired) involve some coding and implement both.Like:

a) when you have something else in the other hand the one-handed holding would be shown, or if you don't aim much. Purely cosmetic, no impact on gameplay.

b) if you use no aim clicks, the one handed anim would be used, the shot would be faster, but with less accuracy... If you use aim clicks, the both hands holding would be used and the shot would have standard accuracy and speed. Gameplay tweak, more complicated.

Omg, so you want the more complicated stuff. This pairs up with firing from hip actually - for rifles you can fire from hip, for pistols you can fire one-handed fast shot...

Ok, I'll try to do it. The good part is the JA2 developers were so kind to give us the animations beforehand. Here is female animation using one hand which is in JA2, but was skipped out:
http://s11.postimage.org/x1uytqtb3/1_HND_N.gif
Which means, we have both animation sets for all body types already. However, it will only work when standing.

So.... implementing the 2 alternative ways of how to fire a pistol was easy. However I came to think about one thing - currently I have made it so the fast shot (holding pistol in one hand) is used when you don't use any aim clicks. But I am not very satisfied on how this benefits the gameplay. From my point of view (considering NCTH as default), it does not at all.

So I had an idea:
Seeing that scope modes made it to the SVN, wouldn't it be beter if I make the alternative weapon holding (same for firing from hip) a "scope mode"? A player could switch from one way to another at his will.
Along with it I could add a button to the interface (i.e. merc inventory) for cycling scope modes, same as there is one for cycling single/burst/auto.

Yo Sandro, Do you mean you are not happy with the game deciding which animation to use? If yes, then for my part, I would want the animation selected by the game, either by the action I am performing, in this case aim clicks for example, or by the merc profile, for example how big mercs fire differently. For my part, I shoot so many times, I would want this automated and ideally personalized in some sense.

If the player can choose the animation, I would want that choice to be sticky to the merc, meaning the next time I start the game and load the save, it will know what animation to use.

Well, I have made it so its behavior is configurable. You can have it as toggle-able "scope mode" - i.e. the option remains (after loading game etc.) until you change the weapon or manually change it back. OR you can change the behavior to be automatic, based on aiming levels used (with graphic indication of when it will be used and when not). OR you can turn it to be rather just a cosmetic seldomly used feature. Or turn it off completely.
From my quick testing the first option seems very good. You can ignore it, but sometimes when you really need to fire a quick shot (from hip) "between the doors with an enemy", you may recall to use it. With machinegunners, you can turn the mode on and let it so (they will fire the weapon from hip).

Nevermind, I will explain it entirely soon, when it's ready to "publish"..
