I'm wondering how the 2 relate, like specifically playing an AFS/4552 game on normal BR, tons of guns, what progress will I start seeing AR-15s and full machine guns?

Just from memory, the earliest AR-15's (pistols in pistol calibres) will appear in early-midgame. The earliest LMG should be appearing by late-midgame, probably the KAC Stoner LMG.

I didn't know if AFS affected that particular part of the game, and I'm running it alongside 1.13.

The coolness any particular weapon is assigned depends on the mod you're running. The general relation of coolness and progress doesn't change across mods though.

...unless the modder had an off day and ended up assigning them at random. I'm in the progress of fixing this for AFS v3.60 (not save game compatible).
