Hey Folks!

We are playing the game for some days now, and I have to say you did a damn good job there!
It is almost addictive... Wink

We seem to have a tiny problem though, and I can't find any post about it. Sad

We tried to change the Mercs starting gear, to save a lot of time during setting up the game.
It works fine in singleplayer, no problem there.
But we cannot make the new starting gear to be available in multiplayer!

Is this a known problem, or are we just plain stupid?

Lots of thanks in advance!

Hy NOOOOO,

it should also work in a multiplayer game. If you want to play with NIV (New Inventory System), you have to change the MercStartingGear.xml file (only for the server). If you want to play with OIV (Old Inventory System), you have to change the proper "BinaryData\Prof*.dat" files.

Once the file is changed for the server, put that in the "MULTIPLAYER\Servers\My Server\TableData" folder. Then in the HOST screen, the server should enable the "Sync directories". So if a client connects, ALL the files that are in the "My Server" folder will be sent to the clients and the game on the clients will be initialized with those files.

Take a look in the "Docs\Multiplayer_FileTransfer.txt" for more informations. To be sure that all the clients play with the same files, the whole "TABLEDATA" folder should be put in the "My Server" folder on the server, together with the "ja2_options.ini", "APBPConstants.ini", "Skills_Settings.ini" and "CTHConstants.ini".

Hey RoWa21!

Thanks for the fast answer! But sadly I am still a little stuck here... Sad
I tried the better part of the last day to solve our problem, but no luck there.

Part 2 and 3 you wrote make perfect sense to me. I did exactly as you said, but no new starting gear... I copied the exact TableData folder to "My Server". In singleplayer the new starting gear shows up, in multiplayer it does not.

The 1 Part i do not really understand. Why is it important to change old/new inventory and how exactly is it done?
BTW: Me and my buddys have the exact same copy of the game (ziped and copied).

Any other ideas what the problem might be?

Part 1: you have to decide whether you are going to play OIV or NIV. Because as Rowa said your decision determines which files you have to change in order to alter starting gear.

For NIV you adjust the starting gear in the file 'MercStartingGear.xml'.
For OIV you adjust the starting gear in the according files 'BinaryData\Prof*.dat'.

So if you alter the .xml file but start a game with OIV your changes will not appear in the game.

Ok, great. I think I got that now. But...

How do I actually change the Prof*.dat file? Upon opening it contains nothing understandable.

When I change the xml file the changes are visible in the singleplayer game, so i would guess that i did that part right?

So what is the problem with the multiplayer? ("TableData" files are copied to "My Server")

There is a tool called "PROEDIT.EXE" in the "Data-1.13\BinaryData" folder. With this tool you can edit the "Prof.dat" file. If you want to edit the difficulty specific "Prof*.dat" files, you have to rename that first to "Prof.dat", then make the changes and then rename it back.

I have to check whats the problem with the merc starting gear in a MP game...

EDIT: Did you select NIV from the host screen, because if old inventory is selected, the merc starting gear is read from the proper "Prof*.dat" file instead of the "MercStartingGear.xml" file. Maybe thats the problem...
