Hi there,

is there amy way to regain skills/attributes that have been reduced/damaged in a firefight? One of my mercs just went from 92 Dex down to 78 due to being hit. It doesn't seem to be healing automatically and assigning a doctor apparently also has no effect.

Hi,

there are critical hits in

- the shoulder with dex loss

- the leg with agility loss

- the head with wisdom loss

These penalties are permaent and can only be restored by training up to the training cap of 85 skill points in vanilla. You recognize a critical hit by the promt in the tactical situation " has been hit in the head and looses x wisdom".

The game also penalizes all skills without indication for every injury of a merc. This can be fixed with a doctor by healing the merc to full hitpoints or letting the merc rest until natural healing finished. I do not think you are talking of this.

In vanilla JA2 there is not. You need to retrain/regain as sunshine explained.

In actual 1.13 there is a way to repair lost stats with help of a paramedic/doctor trait; that's what dieter meant.

In 1.13, there is a prompt for "the surgery" if you have a merc capable of it, which should restore some or all of the stat damage (not positive how much), as well as a decent percentage of lost hitpoints immediately. It puts a real dent in your Medkit, though.

last time i tried that weird "traits" thingie i could not understand why Fox can do it in the bushes but real doctors in the real hospital cannot. (surgery, i mean.)

Hi all,

Thought I'd add this post for anyone else who might be (like me) searching around for an answer on JA2 v1.13 stat loss.

In my current game, Thor was damaged for 60+ health and 8 wisdom from headshot. Health doesn't bother me but permanent stat loss is a problem. I ran some tests doing surgery with IRA (40 medical, paramedic skill) and Danny (88 medical, doctor skill).

Doing surgery with IRA got him back 4 of 8 lost stat points.
Doing surgery with Danny got back ALL 8 lost stat points.

Not sure if you'll always get back 100% but worked in this case. Both options used a full med kit. Seems Danny is only doctor in the roster making him something of a key merc imho.

EDIT: Tested also with Spider (94 med, paramedic), Thor got 7 of 8 lost stat points back and it required two surgeries using 1.5 med kits. Doctor trait seems the key for full stat regain.

FURTHER EDIT: Using the normal 'doctor' mission also restores lost points over time. Testing with IRA in this example Thor was able to restore ALL lost wisdom points, so it would seem the doctor trait is not as important as previously thought, paramedic is enough?

I was having similar issue, found this topic, still no solution, but I eventually found it so I will share in case anyone arrive here with the same problem I have.

Some of my mercs was losing strength because of hunger / thirsty and doctor wouldn't fix it. The solution is to manually feed you merc until he have over 100% food and water needs, it will enable the patient option and then doctor can fix him. Note that if water/food drops below 100% he will no longer be able to be restored by the doctor and the patient assigment will end.

I don't know much coz last version of JA2 1.13 which I played was r4452 & r4870 from 2012, but for me it sounds like SIMS-like game. Is this old good JA2 yet or it have too much "redundant" stuff ? I wondering who invented too much micro-management in tactical turn-based game.

It's an optional feature from Flugente, so you can just play with the food and water feature turned off.
