hi, I looked around in order th check of there is any post with this subject, but didn't find any.
I've played for a couple of days. I've got a three members team, so far.
tried to take over the hicks farmland to please the priest, but they are too quick for me.
i've tried many strategies: trying to shoot them from far away, trying to sneak around and kill them silently... but there is always a point in which they all rush against my soldiers and ALWAYS chop them into parts. I kill some of them, but always end up the same way: too many angry dudes running towards me, and killing my three soldiers before I can kill them all.
should I wait until I have a larger team to come back, or is there a way to defeat these dudes?
thanks in advance for your time.

What's your available personnel and equipment? Did it with 4 so 3 should be doable as well.

I guess your problem are the IIRC 4 well armoured Axe murderes that stand around a truck north of the wodden barn, guarding the ladder into some sort of bunker?

You could try to headshot them from the south (the crop field east of the barn provides some cover for a silent approach and still leaves enough space for good shots of a prone "sniper" (e.g. M14 with ACOG scope you may have found/bought already) with 1, no more than 2 of your guys. The 3rd (or even 2 of them) needs to be equipped with a fast firing, armor piercing close range weapon like Pistol, MP or shotgun; task at hand is stopping and finishing off those maniacs that come running.
(E.G. .356 Magnum has very high armor piercing, thus dealing good damage with shots to chest of the charging maniac. So a Deagle might be a good choice. Or any MP/SMG that is likely to hit with many bullets very fast.)
Put the close defender(s) to running stance for faster firing when using burst fire or shotgun and standing aimed or kneeling with an armor piercing pistol for better aim. Activate guard mode and position your close guard(s) not to close to the "sniper(s)" (Else the axe murder charging close to your sniper is also to close at your guards and interferes them shooting)

Obviously, that requires you to previously clean the barn; best use silenced Pistols and MPs to not attract those axe murderes while still fighting inside and south of the barn.

Those guys seem quite tough indeed. I even remember seeing some of them wearing body armor even on day one. They might be quite hard to stop and finish off even using shotgun/SMG, especially with poor marksmen.

After many attempts with diferent starategies my advice is: frag them! Equip at least two of your team mates with fragmentation grenades and throw simultainously at the standing group. One in the middle of the group one closer to your position as enemies will start to run towards you immediately.

Also in the underground area on this map using grenades seems to be the best approach. Throwing some frags into the shaft where the ladder is (usually there is a couple of enemies standing at the bottom) is my favourite move. Wink Remember that when you throw in grenades into a room through the door enemies tend to immediately run out straight onto you so be prepared to shoot them at point-blank range.

I managed to take them out by having a team ready to fire. I use one guy with SMG sneak up from the window and burst headshot one of them. As soon the other is alerted, just run back to the group. Just have everyone else focus fire and they should go down. Regardless, it is best to take out the patrols first, preferably using suppressed weapons. I also knifed the guy behind the car.

thanks for all the suggestions, friends.
my team is formed by Wolf, blood and Ira. I have three new mercs on their way. so maybe I should just wait for them and keep reloading this part, as it became a little frustrating.
I will try with each of your suggestions, particularly with the use of grenades to lower their health.
so far, they seem to take a few shots and still keep running, and once they get too close, I can't shoot at them anymore. then my guys are chopped into little pieces.
Thanks again for your advice.

If anybody is able to get rid of those axe maniacs in close combat with fire arms - it is Wolf with a shotgun in running stance.

Anyways:

Your mercs are too close together; put them in a sort of triangle in a distance that allows everybody to shot at the two others:

Maniacs
....|
....|
....V
.
.
.A......B
.
.
....C....

If the first maniac tries to attack, let's say, B - A and C can still shoot at him; and so on.
Best if you find a position where at least on of the mercs can not be seen/reached by the axe murders without having to pass through guard area of the others.

E.g. if you position south of the barn and maniacs come through barn, C can soft them up with an AR, and everybody coming out of the barn charging at C comes into crossfire from A and B with shotguns, Pistols, SMG.

You hopefully got the idea ...

I did!
that's exactly what I did, and then they all are dead.
also used some grenades to hurt them in their way to my visible soldier.
thank you to everyone for your assistance.
I needed a few reloads, but I's finally done. I hope the priest is happy enough.

The priest's reward is not very valuable - but looting the Hick's arsenal should be quite worth the trouble ... Smile

tonight I'll get to play a little bit and see how it goes. eager to receive three new mercs to collaborate with the tasks.
looting was not too useful, one good gun, but the rest were mostly axes.

Did you check out the basement/bunker? There are at least half a dozen carbines and assault rifles in the weapon racks down there.

Dunno to what extend the inventories of their vault are random. I found a few ARs (like AK, AKSU, G41, M4) and shotguns. And ammo to those.
Depending on your current equipment those guns might be not good enough for your mercs - but equipping militia with them to help defending your cities/mine is also of quite some value in BiA.

The priest' reward is crap, just about $2k and a few random things, but I think you should collect it anyway to increase town loyalty.

Like said before, your real reward is that large stash of AKs and shotguns in the basement.

I think I'll have to revisit the basement, as didn't find all those weapons you mention.... maybe I missed them, and as you say might be very useful to equip militia.
thanks again to all of you for your comments.

I took them out with Blood ,Fox and Wolf on the first day (of my second game ,first game was fail ).
weapons stash is really worth it Smile. the thing I struggled the most with was the basement but flash bangs and gas grenades work wonders ;)it doesn't kill them but they'll come out of cover and 1 or 2 might get stunned and take damage from gas then just hose 'em down.

What works good too is ,when you can to snipe them ,like others said before me.
I usually keep my sniper covered by 1 or 2 others with autoweapons.
The A ,B, C tactic like Sam Hotte described works very well.
But instead of letting them find you when they come running ,make sure they see 1 of your mercs.
That one will act as bait ;)then when all those dimwitted hicks start to run to that merc just keep running away from them ( zigzag wise is preferred to dodge bullets from one or two of those hicks that hold guns instead of axes ).
While your one merc is on the run the other two just keep shooting those hicks running after him.
Plan the path carefully so you wont take friendly fire from you squad mates and of course you'll need to have enough stamina.

I done this tactic more then once and its a blast (literally) to watch Smile
