Brian Fargo has "got the band back together".

He got the licence to Wasteland 2 from EA.

The project has hit the minimum funding point of 900 grand... after 42 hours out of 30some days.

In short - it's a go.

There will be a Wasteland 2, about 25 years after the release of the original!
Additional funds never hurt, though, and all of it is going towards more content, more platforms, more... Wasteland.

The Wasteland 2 Kickstarter project.

The reward slots have very recently been increased so if you pledge enough, you can again have a statue of yourself or a shrine erected in Wasteland 2.
Immortality can be yours!

Oh, and even without giving them your lunch money, the project video alone is worth watching. =P

Ok , for those of us who have never heard of Wasteland ( I gather it's similar to Fallout ) might he not have screened some artwork at least ?
Good pitch though ! I may well donate a few measly dollars.... Smile

Kickstarter is mostly used to gather funds to start a project. Thus there is no way to give any data on Wasteland 2, other than the team that is assembled and looking for funds to make the project happen.
Fargo is the second person to ask for a huge amount of money on kickstarter to make a game, the first one being Tim Schafer with Double Fine Adventure. He asked for $400K dollars, made a bit more than 3 million. However, both Schafer and Fargo are two of the biggest names in old school gaming, so that model is not guaranteed to work for everyone.

I do hope the game will be a success though, and I may pitch in a few dollars as well.

Say whaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!

Damn, if i werent so horribly broke recently i would throw my wallet at this.
Wasteland is such an iconic game for the post apoc genre and it was bloody awesome back in the days.
So many rangers died(sometimes in hillarious ways "explodes like a blood sausage") in the wastes till i had the hang of it.

For those who dont know, it paved the way for Fallout and similar free roaming games and is free to play nowadays
(abandonware status).
Although many people probably will not have fun with the old ass interface mechanics and graphics.
There was talk of a sequel back then and there was devolpment for sure.
But the only sure fact about it is that what was done ended up on some harddrive as the project was scrapped over legal shennanigans.
For some folks those files are like the holy grail, but they probably will never be seen.

Im really excited about this, thanks for sharing!
Ill keep a real close eye on the development.
TB, squad combat, char development and the wastes...what can go wrong?

And it's not like this is a bunch of nobodies with nothing but an idea and a metric ton of chutzpah.

The track record of these people reads like the Who is Who of CRPG.
Heck, it is the Who is Who of CRPG!
It's not just Wasteland. We're talking Bard's Tale, Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Planescape Torment... and so on.
(developed or produced)

I'm not normally buzzing around tossing ads up on forums but this time there is no choice.
Dooooood! It's Wasteland!

As far as expectations go, this is the most promising CRPG of the decade. (no pressure, y'know! =P)

I couldn't agree more. I'm so excited about this, I'm going to dig into my pouch and toss a few bucks in the pot. I just wish I could afford enough to have myself modded into the game.Smile

Just imagine what the old Sir-Tech crew could do, if they could be motivated to try this out. Wiz 9, a real Jagged Alliance 3... the prospects are limitless. I just hope I live long enough to see some of these projects come to fruition.Smile

Honestly, I think that many things can go wrong.

Personally, I'm a bit concerned about how the graphic interface will look, and I'll probably continue to do so until I've seen screenshots.

Then I'm a bit concerned that the guys involved are "out of business" for a couple of years, and I'm uncertain about their abilities to meet my expectations and to create a game that is an up to date sequel of Wasteland. Actually, I have not the slightest idea what these guys can do or achieve with $3,000,000.

But all in all, I'm pretty curious how the game will feel.

Just in case that someone is interested and has not read it so far:

Vision Document

edit:
What do you guys think in what aspects should the tactical combat system of Wasteland 2 differ from a the combat system of Jagged Alliance 2?
