Just stepped by and saw the thread (been reading here for a while now and decided that I maybe could answer some questions if I have enough time) and maybe can provide you with an answer...
Since Back in Action is steambound this is indeed nearly impossible. There are several steam tools which may or may not make this possible. Steam Mover for example. I don't know every name and tool but google can be helpful here. Don't know if Steam Mover is the correct tool for what you'd like to do. This allows, as far as I know, to install Steamgames on a different harddrive (That's actually what I googled). Maybe there are some more tools (a look into the help forums of steam can provide you with more information) which could help you out.
Another solution would be to change the directories names (Savegamefolder and steamappfolder). So in case you want to run another version you just have to rename it.
