First of all, this might not be related to the game at all but im out of ideas so asking here is all i got.

Anyone else has this issue, mouse wheel stops working after a while ?

Ive started a new game and played for an hour or so and everything worked fine in that time, but when i wanted to resume my game the next day the mouse wheel stopped working. Restarting the game doesnt seem to fix anything, nor starting a new map or load previous saves.

My mouse wheel works everywhere else, just in ja2 it doesnt. Ive tried everything i could think of to fix this, went over several files and all that but nothing ...

Check ENABLE_EXT_MOUSE_KEYS in Ja2_Options.ini
Maybe a wizard changed it to FALSE.

Ive reinstalled everything, game, mods and so on and same thing, first time i start a game everything works and then if i exit the game and some other time load the save the mouse wheel stops working. Checked all settings and they are set correctly.

Sadly this makes the game unplayable for me Sad

Could be a driver issue, hardware side. Sounds like some profile bullshit.

Other than reinstalling the drivers for my mouse i dont know what else i could do.

What makes this unplayable isnt mainly cause the mouse wheel doesnt work but because without it i cant aim with my mercs. Works on semi automatic weapons, right click changes the aim level but when i use full auto weapons right click changes the amount of bullets it fires while the aim level stais the same and i didnt find another key that does that. If someone knows better please help me.

Thanks

Workaround for now is to right-click to increase aim and then switch to burst/auto mode. Doesn't help for auto-only weapons though.

We should take a vote for some new aiming buttons, as the mousewheel will cause issues for the Android-port as well. I suggest '[' and ']', or something similar.

Me, I have the fast-forward key on NUM0. Other num keys could do with some attention too. Plus and minus being the logical choices here.

What about a keyboard/mouse combination. For example: SHIFT + LMB (simulates wheel up) and SHIFT + RMB (simulates wheel down). Just a suggestion...

The keys are hard-coded. No change possible unless you get the code and compile your own exe.

Sorry to bring this thread up again but I ran into this issue myself. And I actually managed to find the cause of it.

The problem is that game simply doesn't get mouse wheel up or down input from mouse even if you enabled it in ini file. The middle mouse button seems to work fine though. The problem was caused, at least in my case, by XFire that was running in the background. For some weird reason, whenever I have XFire running, the game stopped recognizing mousewheel up/down functions and as soon as you close XFire, it starts working again normally. Apparently, XFire does something to disrupt mousewheel function in game even though it doesn't recognize JA2 or has support for that game.

Really weird thing but posting this may help someone else who gets this problem.

Bumping this old thread because I have the same problem. And I'm not running XFire or any other software that should be messing with the mousewheel.

Mousewheel doesn't work with three different mice (Logitech B58, Microsoft Standard Wheel Mouse, Logitech MX Revolution). Mousewheel in JA2 doesn't work with either standard Microsoft drivers nor with the Logitech drivers. This is on Windows 7 64bit.

I'm fairly certain it's not the mouse. The only thing I can think of is that possibly the Lenovo software which is embedded in the Windows Setup on my Thinkpad may be causing it. However, the mousewheel works fine in every other application or game.

It would be awesome if some alternative keybindings for aiming auto/burst would be added. I recently talked to someone in the IRC chat who has the same problem, so this apparently affects a few users.

As this issue seems common, I added an alternate keybind: As of r6555 and GameDir r1855, if USE_AIMED_BURST and AIMED_BURST_ALTERNATE_KEY are TRUE, then [Alt] + [t] over a target will toggle aiming.

Take a look at this thread. Similar mouse problem with a fix:

I did see this thread (and other similar ones). Did not fix it for me, the drivers are current. Even went as far as using an AHK script to remap the mousewheel to keyboard shortcuts. While AHK registered the mousewheel events, JA2 did not.

Changed that to [o] (r6583) as pressing [ALT] during mouswheel interactions toggles between adding more bullets and increasing aimlevels. Did anybody know that? I guess not.

Nope, good to know.
It's something that could be added as a hint, come to think of it.

Doesn't [o] open the Options Menu?

Yes. But I needed a single-key keybind, as we cannot use any combination using [CTRL], [ALT] or [SHIFT], as these interfere with what the mousewheel does. The option menu shortcut isn't tha important. Furthermore, only those without a working mousewheel have any need of this, this is off by default, in which case the button works normally.

But if it's supposed to be turned on if no mousewheel at all, or one not working in JA2, how could [ALT] interfere with mousewheel then?

[o] still brings up the Options Menu. And Alt-t just adds another bullet to the auto-fire, doesn't affect aiming. Using EXE 6567

This is in r6583, not r6567...

@Sam: [ALT] toggles what the mousewheel does, so pressing it to call that function isn't useful.

I just wanted to test this with r6595 but the variable "AIMED_BURST_ALTERNATE_KEY" seems to be missing in ini editor now? should it be added manually?

Never mind that. I looked in the wrong directory. Testing again...

and it works like a charm. Finally I can aim with auto-weapons. Thank you, Flugente

- removed AIMED_BURST_ALTERNATE_KEY option, enabled by default. Alternate Aiming Hotkey reassigned to ',' (comma) for increasing aim
(beside toggle scope mode hotkey '.' (fullstop) and nearer to toggle burst mode hotkey 'b')

Hotkeys updated to r6793
