If i got jmich right, any file representing a map consists of very many (and even more than that in the case of bigmap) parts like this:
gridno### consists of $name_of_item_YY.sti from folder ...\tilesets\XX\
?

Presuming that was correct:
To have 2 different sorts of maps in one game (let's say: A would be Smeag's AIMNAS' bigmaps; and B would be WF-4552's smallmaps) one would need to put all tilesets used in type B maps in a another subfolder like e.g. ..\tilesets\smallmaps\XX\. And then edit every single type B map in replacing every "tilesets" by "tilesets\smallmaps" (in my pseudocode above). Right?

Question is just out of my curiosity, to get a rough idea how things would work; i do not intend to mess with it. Wink

So, unless Sam is onto something there is no reasonable way to achieve this. Thanks for the conversation, I hope I did not upset or waste anyone's time.

If nothing else at least now when someone comes with accusations we can point at this exchange ans say " see, we looked into it and discovered it wasn't feasible."

That has been one of my intentions, yes.

The other thing would be:
If my assumption were right, somebody with experience in reading and (hex-)editing files on low levels could find out, how mapfiles are structured on low level and could something like hex edit this replacement of tilesets' paths.
Would be still a hell of work to do it for every single mapfile; even if that somebody would find a way to batch this.

First of: Even though I have only tinkered in Bigmaps so far the solution for finding 'missing' enemies looks very good. Thank you DepressivesBrot.
Second: I completely agree to Smeagol. Focusing on bigmaps will in the end also be best for the community, so don't even think you're selfish Wink.
Though I don't know what your priorities for 'bigmapping' are, the idea of first adding roads and cities sounds compelling for gameplay reasons... Though of course my coding knowledge is reaching it's limit quickly when using Mathlab so I have no idea if that would actually change anything.

On a complete different thing: How can one start the XMLEditor with the latest release? It doesn't matter which DataDirectory I set, Data-Aim or Data-Bigmaps, the Editor is always crashing with some missing files error (silhouette.xml or something other, just adding files from other Data fodlers doesn'T seem to fix it withouth breaking the install).
It's not game breaking, but I like playing with 6 IMPs and setting their starting gear individually at the beginning of the game. So a solution would be appreciated.

running extended rooms-v5 map editor, res 1920x1200: when I hit "I", the new fullmap comes up - which is really nice, thanx Brot - but the border on it is still the size it was before, so u have a halfsize wooden border stuck in the middle of ur overview map.

You're probably missing the interface file, I guess.

Wait, 1920x1200? Brot probably didn't make the file for that resolution...

u said to run it in 1920x1080, but that crashes for me, u gotta keep it proportional to ur screen I guess, my laptop has a 1920x1200 resolution.

In theory, it should be pretty independent for anything over 1680 now ... might be a condition somewhere. Will check later, got no time atm.

@Mr Clark

Get the latest SCI for the latest AIMNAS. Also all your problems are because you're not doing a clean installation. XML editor errors are there because you're mixing incompatible releases like SVN5394 UC3.60 or AIMNAS v20. If you want the new features, you should use beta versions of those mods (AIMNAS v27, UC3.72 ADCAP etc.)

ya no rush, it's just something I wanted to check if your aware of, I figured it was probly due to my resolution, as I overheard Brot talking about it in the IRC the other day

Fixed this issue. There was indeed one condition left over from the earlier development where I checked for "1920x1080 or 1680x1050" instead "everything from 1680x1050 on". Also ported to current version, so see if that causes issues. Same folder you got the old one from.

Hmm, I've been doing exactly what's been told in Brot's thread (twice) http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php/topics/305818/Installing_AIMNAS_All_you_need.html#Post305818

With the all files current as of Wednesday and Exe 5372, but allright.

Now, after checking (installing Wink ), it does seem to work with the Easter Release SCI, but then either I am doing something very wrong or Brot's installation hints are not valid for new versions of the 1.13 release, or whatever.

Probably because I didn't add drug values yet.

Also, 92 enemies are quite common for certain sectors (like Drassen airport and mine for example) on higher difficulties.

You might want to keep out of towns during day time in the beginning. Those battles are really tough.

Try to either stay mobile, outrange them, attack at night or all three of those. Make use of terrain, lay out traps and ambushes, the room to do so should be there.

Like in Vanilla, by either mixing it with C1/TNT to get C4/HMX or as a secondary explosive by just having it lie around and setting it off with a grenade or other bombs.

that was just me talking out of my ass, The latest post I made in the request thread reminded me that some sniper rifles' item pictures don't have scopes... so my mind went back about a year ago to when there was a thread about dynamically changing icon pictures. I know that this would require making either every last possible attachment variation a different weapon, or some extremely major codework.

ffr: if there's a smilie in my post, think twice before taking it srsly

AIMNAS is closed beta. So contact the makers (Smeagol is head-modder, dunno if DB also may "hire" testers) and "apply" as beta tester if you are willing to take over testing responsibilities (like bug reporting).

Huh. I've just never heard of a MOD having a closed beta. That's really weird to me. I would think the more input, the better. It might be overwhelming, but just filter it. Why not have your select testers that you have in the "closed" beta all send their input to a separate email or something while others do it normally?

Just read back some weeks and you'll understand. It's mainly because there were too many not knowing/understanding/accepting that this mod is WIP and more complaining about incompleteness than giving constructive feedback.
And no, mass is not necessarily preferable to class; if useful information got lost in lots of noise, more input would not be better.
Let the modder(s) decide on their prefered signal2noise ratio ... Smile

The noise consists purely about people not understanding that for example bigmaps are under development and that because of that it's impossible to play the whole campaign, they also seem to have a pretty bad opinion about bigmaps because of that and seem to feel like they need to out all of that in the forums.
The closed beta will give the developer (smeag) a better way to put focus on what he wants to have tested and it's also pretty much the filter you are talking about, only people that are actually willing to help make aimnas better instead of complaining because of their own lack of being able to read.

Ok, I'll try it here, another time:

What is the latest version of AIMNAS COMPLETELY WORKING (!) with the latest build of v 1.13 - if there is any. Got a lot of problems with the "easter load" and also with Tais 5171-SCI. Also the map is marked with red crosses, which you can't leave ..

Little bit chaotic round here, that's a shame. Cause the AIMNAS-project is really brilliant.
