Hello there,

first of all, sorry if this is a stupid question or has already been answered... but I did not yet find an answer to it making sense to me.

I recently discovered JA (via JA Online) and found out (please tell me if this is wrong) that the source code of JA2 has been released... but I didn't find any free full downloads of it, looking legal....

Can't someone take the code and compile it to the fully working game? Is this illegal or only the distribution for free?

Or am I just too stupid to get the 1.13 mod to work without having the game, while it is possible?

 The code is indeed distributable for free. The assets however are not. Without the assets, the code isn't of much use.

 GOG is always the best option in my opinion, game comes with latests patches and running 100% perfect...

 To put it in layman's terms they released the source code for the JA2.EXE basically. All the maps, graphics, etc make up the bulk of the game and they're only available with the whole thing.

There's GoG and from time to time a special sale on Steam (last one had JA2 for like 3 euro).
