WARNING: original JA:DG campaign spoilers ahead.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for helping to create such a wonderful community. Knowing the enthusiam here, I doubt I am alone in having wondered about the possiblity of unlocking the special playable Gus merc available only during a single mission at the end of the original Deadly Games campaign.
After recently dusting off my old copy of the game, I found myself nostalgically wondering again and thought I would take a look at the game files (I'm a bit more technically saavy these days). After some experimentation, it started to click and I was able to slowly reassemble bits and pieces of Gus back into a playable merc slot. It was a fun challenge, and I found that I could fill in a lot of missing A.I.M. screen dialog and graphics by borrowing and rearranging various snippets from his in-game mission briefings. Once Gus was added, I had the idea to take it a step further and introduce an entirely new merc into A.I.M.. Micky O'Brien had loads of humorous dialog buried within the game, so he offered a large opportunity for creative dialog editing and was also a really fun character in general.
I'm really happy with how it turned out, so I wanted to share it with the community. As far as I know, this is the first of its kind to make such a deep modification to the JA:DG game (updated bios, profiles, graphics, dialogue, subtitles). I only hope there are still one or two of you old school JA:DG fans out there who will enjoy this. If you do, please leave a comment to let me know!
The mod can be downloaded at the link below. Feel free to re-upload it as you see fit.
