Demo is very short. Any preview video from the press build does better justice to the game.
I guess the demo may work ok for those who have no idea what xcom is, but for any other its a bit of a let down.

I disagree strongly , it IS a departure from isometric original , but what I saw of the , yes , short demo , told me that this has been a well worthwhile re-imagining , roll on 12th October.......

Yeah I like it, kinda.

Was a big player of the first two originals and Laser Squad before that. Love the look, combat seems streamlined, but there's still plenty of features, just guess I'm so used to having to do everything manually with JA.

Demo was a bit laggy for me which was a concern, but many seem to have the same issue. I'm getting a bit tired of having to mess around with config files though just to get the bloody thing to move smoothly, even if it is just for the mouse!

Had to laugh at X-com's wool jumpers, reminds me of UNIT guys from vintage Dr Who!

Some fair points made by user Chem Dragon. Shame you can't have more than one base or create one from scratch, I knew that 'worm farm' was too good to be true. I think they've got me happily reeled in though.

Had to smile at this comparison of cover art, nice nod to it's ancestor.

why would you pay extra for a poster ..... :whoknows:

Poster, Artbook, Badge. Also, US retail only has the Special Edition, it doesn't have a normal one. If you check Game, the Special Edition also costs

A couple of things piss me off but other than that it's a great game.

And a question: Mexico has abandoned me (more like i abandoned them). Is there any way of winning their trust or is it permanent as in old xcoms?

Hey Lockie, did you get the extra DLC content with your purchase which includes original X-com hi-top dudes, and customisable armour? I missed out on getting a pre-order, so will probably miss out on those goodies, unless it's downloadable from somewhere else.

I got the pre-order and got the DLC. I just use the customisable armour to tell my different soldier types apart on the tactical screen. Red for heavy, green for assault, white for support, and black for snipers. Rookies get pink to draw alien fire away from my veterans. The pineapple haircut is available to any soldier in customisation.

Just finished the game a few minutes ago. Played it on normal with saves, though I did try to limit my reloads.

The ending was ok, seen better and seen worst.

In my opinion, one of the few games I've bought in the last 20 yrs or so that's worth the price I payed and that I'm looking forward to replaying. Smile

Next run through will be classic and ironman. Smile

Damn you North America for having an earlier release date!!!
I've just met my first ethereals, at ~30 hours in (restarted twice though), and tomorrow is a work day again. Maybe I should call in sick...

I have not played this yet, but have looked at footage off youtube.
It looks like what JA3 should have been --- Minus the aliens.

EDIT: At least looks like my imagining of JA3.

I like to see a Ja2 1.13 mod with aliens (not the crepitus, but some sensient alien form like sectoids, mutons ecc), like the Flugente's Zombie mod...

If you'd make animations, i believe Flugente or some other coder would be happy to make something about it.

Looks like I'll have to pick this up based on what you guys are saying. Does anyone know about the mod-friendliness of the PC version?

I've checked interwebs for any mods for this but i only found 2 two mods at XCOM Nexus. Both are only changes balance via some ini file. No new content. But one of them claim it unlocks some excluded content. I'm no expert on it but it doesn't seem mod friendly.

Based on what was been done to the demo, it seems that it will support mods relatively easy (though not as easy as JA2). On the other hand, give the people some time to play the game first, it's out only a week or so.

There's always Demise of Man, though it's not entirely 1.13 friendly. I believe there's also a German mod with Xenonmorph's from the Alien movie available, but I haven't seen it run myself.
