Thanks, but I'm a big fan of his SCI.
How much work is to copy 2 more files to FTP and keep it updated?
I'm not lazy, it's just my idea about improving FTP.

I don't want to install tortoise SVN. I just can't.
Is there other way how to check what is new in your newest SCI?

Why not? Give me a more convincing reason than 'don't want to read the manual' and I might consider to look into it.

I'm often curious what's new and downloading 330MB packing just for looking into 2 changelogs files.

Changelog is also bundled in the files from this folder (just a few MB)

You're right. But there is only changelog for news in ja2.exe

If you don't see any reason to copy these 2 text files to kermi's FTP, i'm ok with this. It's up to you.

For some "unknown" reason option used prof.dat for MERC mercs was TRUE instead of FALSE. Changed that and now everything is OK (now game reads stuff for them from xml).

p.s. don't know why that option was on, as far as I know it shouldn't be.

Hello! Loving this package so far, but can't seem to get past this point.

The game seems to crash after the meanwhile cutscene where Deidranna realizes the engineer guy escaped from Orta. Skipping or watching results in the same error. Another strange thing I noticed is that the SAM sites aren't displayed after I rescued Skyrider? Feature, bug?

exe version: 6446
SCI Unstable Version: 6520

Screenshot of crash message: http://www.sadapaa.com/crash.jpg
Savegame file: http://www.sadapaa.com/SaveGame03.sav

Any help would be appreciated. The only ja2options thing I changed was turning off the soldier profiles.

Not sure y u r using an older exe on a newer SCI.
It's like updating/upgrading a game and then reusing the outdated exe.

Did a bunch of externalizations including e madlab stuff. So ur odd method is probably causing e issue.

Here's ur fixed savegame:

Other problems may still occur.

Thank you Asthner and Buggler for all the help.

So the proper method of installation would be to either 1, use the SCI and the exe it contains, and just wait for a new SCI pack, or 2, to use a program like SVN to update my game using the files found in the gamedir you mentioned, which would get me the most up-to-date revision?

Also, would you guys recommend starting a new game now that I have the SCI and the new exe, or am I safe to continue playing? I wouldn't want to run into a bug and report it if it's just a bug I created myself, as Buggler mentioned.

I have the utmost respect for your work and dedication in keeping this up to date, but having another source of executables already proved to be useful for me. Smile

Just keep in mind that the newest exe might require updated GameDir as well. If the exe is looking for game data that is not there it may crash. We already had bug reports of this kind and they waste our time.
Best is to stick with Depri's SCIs and Exes unless you really know what you are doing.

That's just wrong, I've been providing exes even before I started building full SCIs and I have no clue whatsoever why Faala even started to provide a redundant service just to (expectedly) lose interest after a week or two. The only reason that they currently match build-for-build with the SCIs is the unusually high activity in the gamedir.

I am mostly compiling the EXEs for my own use, but since compiling takes some time, and requires Visual Studio (which is PITA to install), I thought someone could use what I compile being an alternative to the EXEs you provide, sometimes providing a build that you won't compile (and vice versa). That's why I attached a Readme to the folder pointing to your thread (quite prominently I thought?) and explaining what the EXEs are and what they are not. I also marked the revision and date of compilation in my sig so I thought it'll be enough, guess it's not Sad.

Anyway, as I'm AWOL now and not playing JA2 at the very moment, I removed the link from the sig - when I'll compile a new EXE I'll still throw them at the folder, but I won't add it to the sig anymore then. The link is still valid and is located here - http://goo.gl/1gMbfH - posting it, so it won't disappear

TL;DR: The link in sig is now removed.

Thanks parkan, it worked!

I got this screen at startup:

http://s24.postimg.org/6t0bet0vl/SCI_Unstable_Revision_6553_on_Game_Dir_1854_ANIMA.jpg

I even installed ANIMAS 2.1 on that revision, and it seems to work, though some new features were took out (eg.the new aim mercenaries, hell I dont't wanna resigno on them!)

So i'll play around a bit with that 6553. In the meanttime hope smeagol will update ANIMAS...

AFAICS this error is often due to write protected installation folder, usually happens when you installed into "program files" or such.

These errors show that the exe you're running expects several options in options.ini to be set which are not present in your ini at all. Hence the game used default values for all this options.

Hi Depri,

using the latest from Kermi's FTP I get:
"sgp.cpp"
"line 761"
"Location initializestandardgampingplatform"
"initializing virtual file system failed"

I'm on Windows 8.1, I'm running as admin and using the fixes in the docs folder.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

EDIT: Fixed it by not running as admin.

Now I get random freezes and whenever I use keyboard combos (such as alt+z) I get Windows sounds just like if I was doing it on the desktop.

Noticed another strange behavior after revision 6536, if window is already broken throwing knife want pass it over and hit target behind. Probably problem is not directly cased by fix but popup in another part, my suspicion goes to HandleBulletStructureInteraction :whoknows:

To expand on what E1vSs and Gambigobilla said.
If you have "Use_Working_Directory" set, it creates the database on first run (the slow one), then uses that instead of reloading the files. Should you make any changes to the files, they are ignored, unless you ask it to reload the files. The database is created in the XmlWorkingData folder, so deleting it will create it from scratch.

Hi !
First of all, thanks for your awesome mod !
I have a bug with the experimental build. I'm on windows 8 and i can pla the 1.13 stable version with some fixes but for some reason when I try to launch the unstable version (with the last build, the one of the 13th december) i've got this error "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)"
and then my PC freeze for some time.
I've try every generic solution for this problem (registery, sfc /scannow) but JA2 still don't lauch.
Does anybody have a clue how to fix this or should I stick with the stable version ?

Thanks !

Hi guys,

I'm using SCI Unstable Revision 6708 on Gamedir 1901 from Kermi's FTP.

I've noticed a strange bug - if I save a game in slot 8 (it's the fourth one from the bottom of the save table) the game goes on all fine and dandy. However, when I try to load that game, a popup window shows saying "ERROR loading the game!". This happens even if I exit the game, run it again and try again. I've tried (to be sure) to reinstall JA2Gold and this SCI, but the problem is still there. In my opinion, the save is corrupted. And after fiddling with it, trying to load older saves, play a while and save in the weird slot etc. the corruption somehow spreads to other saves.

Now, I wouldn't mind that, I can live with losing one game. So I did a clean install once again (deleting all the saves in the process), downloaded the SCI again (so the archive is not corrupted or something), and tried to play. However, when saving in the cursed slot, the savegame becomes corrupted again.

I have no idea what could cause this. I'm not using any other mods, just the SCI Depri provides. The only changes I did to ini files was to change the resolution to 1024*768 (I'm used to it looking like that) and giving my mercs a flat AP bonus of 20 (I like to play loner mercs, which I find ridiculously difficult without savescumming, so this is to give me a bit of an edge over the enemy).

Both times this bug has started to happen my merc was in the Drassen Airport sector. It might just be coincidence though - I just did not use that particular save slot before reaching the airport.

Now: Is this the correct place for this bugreport?
And is it in any way helpful? Should I include more details? Or the corrupted savefile?

Is this in any way fixable? I love JA2 1.13 and just recently started to play again, but if I have to talk to Fatima/Dimitri&theRebelGang for the third time in two days, I'll lose my mind.

how many times have you saved and loaded the savegame in that slot?
It could be that you've stumbled upon Flugente's little mistake he made in the battle reports code that duplicates the battle reports until you cant load your savegame anymore, this should be fixed in 6709 iirc
The savegame is gone though, that's the risk of playing on unstable, sometimes someone can make a mistake

Not necessarily. Use an exe >= 6709 and set CAMPAIGN_HISTORY_MAX_REPORTS to 1 or a similar low value. The error happened on loading, not on saving, so the savegame should be okay if you laod it with the new exe.

Big thanks to both of you, guys. I did what you suggested and now the save slot works. The CAMPAIGN_HISTORY_MAX_REPORTS was set to -1 before.

The actual save game still could not be loaded, but when I loaded earlier save, saved into the cursed slot and loaded (and did this couple times) it seems to work normally.

You are awesome! In the actual sense of the word. Like, awe inspiring. Where else could I post my problem and get the answers and solutions in a couple of hours? I really hope you got loads of presents for xmas this year! Very Happy Thanks!

Hi guys,

Not sure if it's a bug but after using the latest vanilla SCI_Unstable_Revision_6722_on_GameDir_1905.7z, when I create a new IMP in both vanilla JA2 and UB, the backgrounds on displays up till Drill Sergeant and all the other backgrounds from Bouncer onwards are not displayed.
Previously when I was using 6671-1886, I was able to view all backgrounds up till Professional Thief.
Was something changed?
