Here's a little mod I made for myself, but I was suggested to post it up here for people to take a look at.
It's a revision of the mercs' skills, being as true to the bios as possible with up to 4 traits max (not counting duplicate traits, aka. expert levels) , so that the top tier mercs are significantly better than the lower tier ones, as befits their status and salary. My objective was to really bring out the mercs' characters as much as possible.

Some merc salaries were also adjusted, mainly the Wildfire mercs, who were sometimes completely out of whack with reality (Grace!).
I also added the following "canonical" mercs (meaning only those mercs whose alumni entry makes them viable candidates) to M.E.R.C. and spread out M.E.R.C. arrivals pretty evenly along a month (30 days). This feature requires previous installation of DG mercs mod

As for your I.M.P. , I'll leave it up to you to choose how many traits you'll allow him/her. I personally go with 5, up to 3 major and 2 minor, similar to AIMNAS.
