The goal here is to improve the number and type of items that may be stored in a pocket. This is my first step toward defining new item sizes before redefining each items' size and adjusting the amounts per pocket. This preliminary step, for your review, amounts to a total of 331 item size categories. I will be submitting these changes for v1.13 build 4870 and if desired, the latest build in progress, whatever and wherever that is.

I do have some concerns.
  1. The old inventory items have an item size of 99. I changed them to 499. I don't know what effect if any this will have.
  2. I found the .38 Special had no tag.
  3. There was at least one instance where Beowulf was misspelled.
  4. Found some ammo designations using commas instead of decimals (5,45).
I can fix these if desired.

Definitely make all changes on the dev branch, anything else is pointless and only leads to doubled work if it's gonna be officially adopted! https://ja2svn.dyndns.org/source/ja2_v1.13_data/GameDir/

1) Items with size OIV don't show up under NIV, doesn't matter what you set there as long as it's outside your used range
2) Probably just a default value getting culled when saving.
3&4) Might as well correct them while you're at it.

Remember that attachments can modify sizes, so make sure that +1 size and +15cm end up in the same value.

And maybe edit your post to add spoiler tags around the list, think of the poor mousewheels Wink

Also be aware that the function that distributes items works from larger item size to lower, so it is in general a good idea to have higher numbers mean bigger items, or be very very careful about what pockets can take what items.
I think the game will use any possible pocket if it can't fit the items to where they should go, but not really sure about it.

Alright, I grabbed the files from the Dev branch (Items.XML, Pockets.XML). I understand how attachments change the size of items in game but I'm not clear what changes I must incorporate to adapt +1/+15cm. Also, when I made the proposed size table I categorized each item class. In each class I went from smallest to greatest. So the entire table entails groups of least to greatest.

What I meant was, adding a suppressor to a 49cm machine pistol should not result in the weapon being counted as a 35cm SMG. A good way around this is adding gaps for those modified weapons, although that does double the size range for weapons.
Example:
18 Machine Pistols, 186mm Glock 18
19 Machine Pistols, 186mm + suppressor
20 Machine Pistols, 225-248mm Stechkin APS, Beretta 93R, Cobray M11/9
21 -"- + suppressor
22 Machine Pistols, 270-282mm Skorpion vz.82, Micro-Uzi, Steyr TMP
23 -"- + suppressor
24 Machine Pistols, 295-300mm MAC-10, Mini SAF
25 -"- + suppressor
26 Machine Pistols, 325 MP5KA4, AEK-919K, PP-93
27 -"- + suppressor
28 Machine Pistols, 350-367mm Calico M-950, Mini-Uzi, SR-2 Veresk
29 -"- + suppressor
30 Machine Pistols, 415-431mm MP7A1, OA-93
31 -"- + suppressor
32 Machine Pistols, 482-598mm Agram 2000, CMMG 7.3 (508mm WAG)
That way you don't get weird overflows into the next weapon category

A good project, RasterOps.
I think it's good that you try to add better balancing to the main mod. :super:

I likes to play with wurds. Very Happy I could change it if you like. I was trying to recall of a quote having to do with pockets but it is eluding me.

I updated the size table in the OP. It now includes sizes for weapons having large barrel attachments. Some weapons have no large barrel attachments, mostly revolvers, an additional size was not included for these. Contrarily, some weapons were assigned an additional size, e.g. Wildey Survivor, Dart Gun, Spectre M4, HK SL8, etc.

Sizes are still ordered least to greatest by category, e.g. Pistols, SMG's, AR's, etc. The Miscellaneous category is a bit less organized.

The size table was updated again, check the OP. Changes to Pockets.XML are not complete. Items.XML has been updated to match sizes in the table. In addition the following changes were applied to Items.XML:
  • Added element for uiIndex: 5, 658, 675, 689, 690, 703, 718, 722, 739, 783, 1064, 1627, 1628
  • Changed .50 Beowulf Mag 7 HP (556) szLongItemName, corrected typo: "Bewoulf" to "Beowulf"
  • Typos Corrected: "replacable" to "replaceable"
  • Typos Corrected: capitalized "Alrucan" where applicable
  • Typos Corrected: (uiIndex 1578, szBRDesc) "jsut" to "just"
  • Changed grammar of ".38 Box" (1394) szItemDesc and szBRDesc, replaced "These" with "This"
  • Changed "White shirt" (1612) description, cut "yellow"
  • Changed "Light green shirt" (1616) description, cut "yellow"
  • Pepper Spray (1627) ubClassIndex, assigned to Blunt Weapon (128)
  • Pepper Spray (1627) Description corrected, changed ams to arms

I also noticed these:
  1. Calorie is misspelled as Calory in uiIndex=1544. Is this intentional?
  2. Inconsistencies in uiIndex's 538, 564 Name and descriptions regarding ammunition caliber.
  3. Shouldn't the RPG-26, RPG-27, RPO-M... be classified as Launchers?
