Don't know where to place that:

Is that vanilla 1.13 or AR 1.4 or SDO?
How can trousers influence your vision range?

Opening Post in this thread, Known Issues
Dedicated Armours for Night Operations

The reduction of sight range at day is obviously very game-y, but there exists no exclusive camouflage tag for night time, so this was the means to make their usage during day unattractive.

Possibilities for slot 2 are Elcan and Aimpoint M2. While trying to attach the M2, an error about the opened iron sights occur and the session is broken.

The problem with the night vision scopes i can't fix quickly. For the problem with the reflex sight*/holo sight* i have no solution for now, simply don't do that.

Hotfix

Thank you very much for the quick release of the hotfix! Smile
I installed the fix and added also the code lines in the item transformation file. Currently that helps a lot.

I want to report two other things:
There is a problem when switching the 6x or 3x magnifier attachment aside during turn based mode. It says that due to the lack of inventory space things have been dropped to the ground. Then the things from the backpack are dropped to the ground. Zipper isclosed, no new item is added. That happens without the patch, too.

Another thing is that currently I have bugs (the aliens) in Drassen. In the 3rd underground level of G13 I there appears no cursor at the side of the map where the mercs have to travel to the next map. Restarting the game solved the problem.

Some thirst quenching properties for the weaker alcohols would be nice. Maybe some slight stat boosting goodness for high doses of Peak EPA? Stuff like that.
Oh, and having to combine cans with canteens seems very redundant. Turn cans into consumables?

It's not the fault of this mod. That glitch is common to using any item transformation during turn-based mode while having something in the backpack - all backpack items will be dropped and the "Due to... blah blah blah." message will appear. I have reported this in the main bug thread but it wasn't solved yet apparently.

Time for a new release:
  • Changes to iron sights: their bonuses/penalties have been significantly lowered. Instead their main functionality has been shifted to the CTHConstants.ini; this should solve some of their scaling issues. These are the new defaults used at the moment:

    IRON_SIGHT_PERFORMANCE_BONUS = 35.0
    LASER_PERFORMANCE_BONUS_HIP = 30.0
    LASER_PERFORMANCE_BONUS_IRON = 15.0
    LASER_PERFORMANCE_BONUS_SCOPE = 5.0
    AIM_STANDING_STANCE = 1.5
    AIM_CROUCHING_STANCE = 1.0
    AIM_PRONE_STANCE = 0.5

    Aperture Sights have been changed from a transformable to a fixed attachment; they use their own compatibility version of most scopes now (labelled with a *).
  • Folding/Retracting Stock functionality changed: instead of transforming an attachment placed on the gun you now transform the whole gun. If the gun has no integral stock, attaching a addon stock initiates an attachment combo merge into a new item. Folding/Collapsing or separating the stock again can now be done with item transformations of this "new" gun.
  • Saved the new random item maps for AR with a newer editor revision in the current format; this in combination with the listed changes to attachments should *hopefully* cut down the amount of gun missing their default attachments to a minimum.
  • Damage values of most calibers revised and lowered in some cases.
[color:#FF0000]Before you download and overwrite anything load your last savegame and do the following steps:
  • transform any attached folding/retracting stock into their unfolded, long version (the one without arrow) and detach them from the gun
  • detach the scopes/sights from any gun with aperture sights
Core Mod Files - required
AR - additional files needed for Arulco Revisited
Random Item Maps for AR[color:#FF0000]*

[color:#FF0000]*Only download and overwrite with this, if you intend to start a new game. Using them with a current savegame results in broken mechanics like unable to load ammunition in weapons, broken sector inventory sorting etc.
In the folder Data-AR\Maps there two backups: SDO+AR_Rnd_Item_Maps contains the new maps saved with editor r1886 in new format, AR_Default_Maps contains the old maps without random items, saved in vanilla format.

Thank you for a great mod! It realy improves the game.
Im am going to try to get it to work on my new Laptop with win 8.

Question: I downloaded AR+SDO_Default_Maps_GameDir_r1893. However I can only find SCI_Unstable_Revision_6690_on_GameDir_1891

I guess GameDir should be 1893?

r1893 was the last revision available with SVN at the time of the upload. The difference between r1891 and r1893 are only some Ja2_Options.INI settings and a hotkey list added to the helpscreen.
As the last is not needed for the game to run and my package includes a up-to-date Ja2_Options.INI and exe the single click installer you mentioned should work anyway.

Edit: As Flugente made changes to scope modes, relevant for NCTH, i reuploaded with slightly modified xmls and newer exe (r1894).

Ok thank you!

Ive got some problem geting it to work.

I install JA2 gold and extract SCI_Unstable_Revision_6690_on_GameDir_1891.7z. It works fine (with a windows 8 fix so it wont lag)

I then extract Arulco-Revisited--AR-v1.4-20130120-.7z. It starts but I get some grafic distortions and it freezes when the mercs arrives the first time

I then extract AR+SDO_Default_Maps_GameDir_r1893.7z. I get this messege when I try to start:

JA2 Fatatl Error

Line: 323
Location: vfs init::initvirtualfilesystem

You will need the newest "unstable" 1.13 game files and exe

The latest Game Dir is 1931, would AR+SOD work with it? Or should I use 1894 only?

Much thanks!

I think technically it would work, but the SDO-files will overwrite the newer unstable 1.13 files, downgrading it to a r1894 state.

If you want to play with r1931 you have to transfer the changes made since the last release to the SDO-files by yourself. The next release will take several weeks, so i wouldn't count on that.

No, i think finishing the next one will take at least 1-2 additional months.

I didn't start working on it until march due to lack of time and the next release will be savegame-breaking, so i will try to squeeze in as many long-term changes as posssible.

If some people want to contribute, i need some feedback for the mid- and late game. For example:
  • usefulness of (large) pistols/revolvers
  • usefulness of shotguns and machine pistols
  • balancing of sniper rifles/machine guns: now that some let you see up to 80 tiles, how good is this counterbalanced by the increasement of COVER_SYSTEM_TREE_EFFECTIVENESS, ap-cost to change magnification and restriction of magnification factors to a smaller range at the cost of realism (most real life scope examples i looked up had a range of 3x-9x for example)?
  • night combat: was the addition of scopes with increased night sight range for diversity's sake worth it (giving the player an edge over the AI) or was the older egalitarian approach with limiting it to night vision goggles better?
  • ...
  • any additions you would like to see in future releases?

1. From my point of view, current situation with increased sight range needs LOS/AI code improvement.
Currently I prefer playing without vision bonuses from scopes, and using only binocs for recon.
2. I would like to see more use for existing items - crafting (no new items needed, even adding some merges and transformations will make gameplay more interesting), and more use of new features.
3. Maybe more special ammo for shotguns for fun, non-lethal ammo.

1)* Yeah, but won't happen in the current state, as it would make many scopes useless.
3)* I already thought about that some time ago, the problem i saw was, that it would devalue the trait Hand-to-Hand/Martial Arts too much.
One can argue that already happened with the stun gun, but at least it requires the player to engage in risky melee combat.

ACOG 4x combo has 1.0, is that intended?

Also, the fact that kevlar trousers limit your seems very strange (i know why you did it, but still strange :sadyellow: ). Hope next release will find some acceptable solution for that Smile

HtH specialists are still needed for SanMona boxing and capturing prisoners (this trait also gives nice small bonuses), and shotguns cannot have silencers, so I don't see much threat to HtH from new shotgun ammo (rubber bullets, dragonbreath etc).

Well, what other useful tags only work during night/day? The solution would be a camouflage tag, that only works during night.
Or tags that multiply existing camouflage bonuses during different day times. But i think these requests/proposals are already years old...

I don't think these bonuses mean much when anyone can shoot a victim till out of breath und rob/capture him/her while helplessly flailing on the ground.

What's the last release this overhaul is compatible with? I'm using the latest unstable. (r7141/r2007)

I was wondering which one I should download to ensure the best compatibility Razz

Is the gamedir revision for SDO, r1894? Or is this number a release number for SDO? It got me confused. That being said, would Deapri's SCI (r6692/r1894) work?

The r1894 in the opening post refers to the Stock 1.13 gamedir revision SDO is compatible with. The first four-digit number in SCI_Unstable_Revision_xxxx_on_GameDir_yyyy refers to the exe version; but this is irrelvant for SDO as i always include a fitting exe in the download packages.

So if you don't want to manually copy the changes made in Stock 1.13 since then to the SDO files (or participate in the alpha test mentioned above) you indeed have to use the SCI_Unstable_Revision_6692_on_GameDir_1894 from december.

Thank you for the explanation. I saw the alpha files and thought about testing them... But time is lacking right now for me to test and feedback properly.

In any case, it's great to see that such an old game still gets a lot of love from the community. I'll be keeping track of this Overhaul Razz
