http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/gallery/80/thumbs/87.jpgFull Control, the new developer who took upon themselves to make a "true and real" TBS sequel to JA2, has decided to fund the game using Kickstarter. Here you go, JA fans, after watching dozens of awesome old games being brought to life on KS, it's our turn now.

Only downside of this is that while for example Elite 4 is being worked on by David Braben himself, our old friend Ian Currie is slacking off somewhere, chewing the fat at Turbine or God knows where he's at now. Come on, Ian, help these guys, they need you! We need you! You just can't drop a piece of classic masterwork on the gaming scene then vanish... no, it has be to your curse all your life! Very Happy

Anyway here's how the new game is doing on KS. If you got the spare change, go help them out.

You can only do it by using a credit card.

Hopefully they'll do like Elite did and setup a Paypal donation fund too.

And if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Here. On the Kickstarter. In our forums. Or wherever. We'll try to answer pretty much everything if we can.

Welcome to BP, Andreas. We always appreciate devs coming to hear what the fans have to say. And this bunch has a lot to say, trust me.

Thanks! But always keep in mind that you are not always talking to Andreas. But we like keeping one account everyone from the team can use (one person could easily get burned during a Kickstarter, mumbling crude things afterwards. Than we couldn't use him anymore Wink).

Yep, sure, but despite the bloody heads hanging on the walls and and Reuban like smiles, we're a friendly bunch. As long as you folks take time to discuss matters and send competent people in, it's all fine with us. Knowing who we talk with gives your words way more weight...

At least you're a too small dev studio to hire a secretary to type PR spam for you. For now. If KS goes as well as it started you might afford one soon Razz

Keep up the good work.

We will probably become a bit silent now, preparing some bigger updates. Lot's of questions which have been asked. Lot's of things to answer...

I like the idea of the base being a bridgehead that has to be kept and can be moved as well as adding fortifications etc. to "frontline" sectors.
Also seizing airfields, harbours etc. in order to get access to remote areas, secure supply routes, move into enemy's rear, (maybe even enable para drops and/or air support?) was something i'd like to add to the strategic level of the game.

About destructible environment: Though I also think you shouldn't be able to destroy everything (it's not about a big war with lots of heavy weapons, it's no e.g. company of heroes ...), I'd quite like if you were able to chop some trees with a mortar and such. Very Happy
And hitting buildings with heavy weapons should result in (optical) destruction of parts of building (without destroying roof completely, I agree) - but also in a loss of loyalty, resources, money or whatever to teach you not to neglect civilians' need ...

I'd also like to see Heavy MGs stationed in sectors or mounted on usable trucks or so that can be manned and used (by and against you) once conquered in working condition ...

I think this is the first Kickstarter that actually explains to the backers ( and to those that are interested ) how and where the money is going and what it actually means holding a license.

A nice update all in all.

Thanks. We actually feared a shitstorm cause of our relations to the license owner. But we said to ourselves that being honest is the best way to handle this.

I mean, seriously, if the project gets funded and afterwards someone is willing to invest even more money (bitComposer, private investors or whoever) we will just do these things under our conditions which means that we will stay independent, bring our vision to life and not jump on the train just cause of the money. But of course, we will evaluate such things. Same for partners who want to do a Retail box of the game afterwards. We are just a small team based in Denmark, how the hell can we put a box in the stores in China for example?

Ironically, the makers of Chaos Chronicles are getting flak because of their relationship with bitComposer and BiA.Smile Both they and the JAF team are taking pains to distance themselves from the license holder. I reckon both games will turn out okay, despite the contagion.

Frankly, Ivan in a pink ballerina outfit sounds like fun.Smile Hey, it could have something to do with how he ended up with AIM!

Strangely enough while Bitcomposer are the license holders, it's the other companies they have contracted to do work (BIA/Crossfire etc...) that have stuffed up the JA name. JA Online is the worst offender though it was developed by Cliffhanger Productions. Unfortunately JA license holders haven't been known to be very savvy in who they hire to remake/continue the franchise so far.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Full Control can bring to the table though. From what I've seen and read, they are just as nuts about the series as we are. Seeing as they are ballsy enough to do a proper boardgame virtualisation of Space Hulk it's looking good for the niche gamers Wink

Well, we are not distancing or something. We know them now. And we have the license now. So no problems for us.

About Ivan... seems that becomes quite a selfrunner. Noted for eastereggs.

I posted this in your first Kickstarter update, but I think Shanga has mentioned it too: Wasteland 2 encourage backers create tiles, items and pieces of decoration in order to provide for more variation and to reduce the strain on their own modellers.

With a small team and small budget, JA 1.13 is impossible to get close to, but if you can outsource some of the work to fans, I would assume you could include more stuff in the game than you could on your own.

Yeah, 1.13 is a beast, that has been in the making for along time now. There is no way it could be remade withing a reasonable time-frame, by a 12 man squad.
The full implementation of 1.13 is something for the post release.

I'm a little concerned about the lack of exposure outside of the dedicated jagge alliance circles. On most of the gaming websites I visit (mostly dutch, but some english) I haven't seen any mention of this kickstarter, which is a shame. What would be a good way for us as a community to organize some fireworks?

See, that's why we also hope for the community in the end. While we can deliver a good, well even a great game with that budget due to the fact that we build up our technology over all these years (and assets), we still make our bet on you guys. We will keep the game as open as possible. Use external loading inside Unity (for local files) instead of bundling it all up inside the build and all these things so people will hopefully pick it up. XMLs for translations, dialogues etc.

That's a pretty tough ride, still.

How are you going to deal with realism when it comes in conflict with a turn based system? I'm thinking primarily about thrown grenades and the options to dive for cover when all AP's are spent. Maybe "borrow" a few AP's from the next round with an interrupt would be best, or do you have something else in mind?

Also, please change the colors of your forum found here:
http://www.jaggedallianceflashback.com/forums/
As it is now I can't read more than a minute before I get issues with my eyes, very uncomfortable. Either make the background in a brighter color, or make the text darker.

Good luck on your KS campaign.

Well, the AI is the most important thing when dealing with tactical games, and the trend of dumbing games down to fit a broader audience is a real fear for most of us old tactical gamers. The good news is that you chose the Unity3D engine, which makes it very easy to script an AI that uses the terrain in a good and interesting manner. But to what extent will you limit that to make the game somewhat less frustrating to those that aren't used to using advanced tactics?

I know your game is still very early in development, but you might have an idea of how you are going to handle it when those issues arises during the later stages. Will you cut it out if it turns out too difficult, or will you leave it in the game as an optional feature?
