For anyone wanting to help out, we could use some reddit upvotes:

Needs more Reddit upvotes (registering takes like 5 seconds and this can get us good exposure)

However. We still believe in the project. And we will make it happen. We won't let it fail, even if that means someone must take a credit on a house or something Very Happy

Well, it is determination and readiness for even personal sacrifices like this, which convinces me that you guys are gonna deliver no matter what, unless higher powers conspire against you.

Because of that, and because you actually managed to get guys like Ian Currie involved and endorsing you, that you now have finally won my pledge.

50 Bucks are en route per PayPal (for the "It's Time to Reload Tier") and i will use this weekend to delve into the obscure world of imageboards to get you some exposure there and hopefully help to reach the goal.

And for that, i want the special Bear

If you want to help and get more people to the KS page, I've prepared a small poster on our FB page for that. I wanted to point out the new bonus everyone $35 and up gets - the bling IMP gun. Something which could be easily missed due to being merely a footnote in the update from yesterday.

Good morning Bear Pit and a belated Happy Birthday to Shanga!

Its the final few hours and i hope with a proper push we can make the goal and beyond. I really hope we get to make this game.,the more i think about how fun this game can actually be the more excited i am at being able to make it.

But First

@Mauser, completely agree, i think this game needs to be closer on scope to realistic and less cartoony as you pointed out. In the end a more stylized but realistic art style is the way to go because it fits within the Jagged Alliance spirit and its just a faster art style is is easier to produce as well. It wont be just Jesper and myself making the art,and it needs to be a style that is easy to master by every artist who works on it.

But this morning in particular i want to give some meat to the modders, since i am an artist it will be art related off course Wink

One of the challenges we face with whatever budget we have to make JAFlashback is what can we make with the time and money we get.If you ever dabbled with 3d graphics you know its a time intensive affair. So to do this we need to have an art pipeline that is efficient and reduces wasted time.

so to show you how we will make 3d models and to give you an idea about ,what you will be working with if you Mod the game, here is the breakdown of the RPG7.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/8743506941_24c352874d_c.jpg

Personally i hope we can model every 3d model in game, some people have recommended that we buy model packs but i really hope we don't have to . The reason being is that if we make it all in house,it means every 3d model in game can be created in a way that allows for reuse of artwork and can be set up in a way that is easy to edit and change if need be if the situation requires. So if we want to make a dirtier and worn down version of a weapon,we can do it in a matter of minutes. So a weapon bought online may not give that sort of edit ability.

So here is the High polygon version of the RPG7 that is used to "bake" light information onto the low poly in game version, which is the basis of all textures. It can also be used to generate normal maps if needed.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5450/8764696380_24d2fa8c29_z.jpg

Every detail in this model is actually made separately,if you look closely you can see some of the physical details in this model were modeled separately. The reason for this is,when we bake the light or normal details into an image file, every part of an object has the potential for quick editing by any artist and when its in photoshop, texture variations can be made in a matter of minutes.

So after we bake our light maps and potentially normals we will apply different colors to each individual part of the model....

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2817/8764286710_4a7fedcfb6_z.jpg

After this we bake something we call a selection map, which within photoshop looks like this...
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2875/8764343094_96e0659a75.jpg

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3758/8765079628_400486cdb1.jpg

And within photoshop there is a way you can make a selection based on a color, so lets say you want to make an RPG7 with a gold plated round, you can just select the colors that make up the rounds parts, on the UV map,go to the layer with the colors, and quickly change it from green to gold. Resave as a new texture and Viola! Now you have a pimping new Gold Plated RPG. So if you make your own versions of weapons ans characters,it will be very easy for you to change the color, surface and look of every 3d model.

Every artist who works on this game will work in this exact way so if we need to change or work on another artists textures or 3d models, it doesnt take them ages to make a new asset of alter it,just minutes.

For you modders,i hope it will be a uniform and easy system to made any of the existing 3d work to your liking and need.

And lastly, i leave you with something id like to call, the "BeaRPG7".......fair enough it you think it also looks like a weasel Wink

@ Javier: Glad we agree on the visual style. I trust you will do your very best, knowing that if you let the community down, someone will probably start collecting money to hire some grim mercenaries to teach you a definitive lesson. Wink

Btw. love that BeaRPG, should become an easteregg or something in the game. Maybe a good loot item to find in the Bear Pit sector?

Oh my, it looks like it may well succeed yet!

The suspense in these closing hours is almost unBEARable! :crossed:

By trhe time i get home from work this evening, i will be able to follow the last hours live! And i know many of my fellow Bearspitters here will do the very same. So i propose for Shanga to already prepare a special celebration and congratulations thread for the occasion, where we can express our exaltation, relief and joy appropriately.

For the hour draws finally near, where all of our combined hopes and dreams, which we harbored for the past years with so many disappointments, will finally get their biggest chance of getting fulfilled properly yet! Also, this occasion may actually render the SMP project redundant, as FC will hopefully provide us with the up to date engine, tools and expertise to fulfill all our JA modding dreams through JA:F. Which also proves my conviction, that good things eventually come to those who just wait patiently enough.

Bloody hell, the excitement! :compcuppa:

Yes. yes we are! In any case, because we will get a proper Jagged Alliance game one way or the other i might add. The only question remaining is, how long it will take and how many features and content the release version will have.

But it is practically sure this Kickstarter will succeed, albeit barely. And from then on it
