We ask for all the help we can get. We will definitely put more of our own money into this. But first we need a funding at all. We want this to happen. We want back Jagged Alliance as it was. And we want a future for that license. Yes, modding is a future. But it could become so much brighter. This brand deserves it.

Is there any chance to include paypal option for this KS? I wanted to back it up with whatever I had on my account (whole 5$), but there is amazon payments only option.

Ok, you have my 5 bucks now. JA 2 (with 1.13) is something nothing else matched till now, Im hoping for something pretty much the same, but more stable, easier to mod and polished a bit. If it works dont fix it.

I noticed that JAF does not come up in google too much, you could put in "Jagged alliance flash" and still you wouldnt get any links to Flashback. I call for some google bombing. Now all we needs is Fidel or Red to carry it out Razz .

Yeah the average daily pledges are barely improving. Only getting like 2.5k a day. Will need a crazy last push if it stays this low.

We might also be hitting a stage where people wont want to pledge because they dont even think that it will get funded.

If we would of had the info we have now when this launched (+ the introducing dev video)....it would of been totally different scenario and we wouldnt wonder if we would get funded but rather how high we can go

imho the pledge tiers are the big issue atm because most people are crammed into the $25 pledge without much incentive to go higher. Hope FC gives a good read to new pledge + addons ideas people have posted in the other topic.

The tiers are just super confusing, what makes it worse is that you cant edit the tiers at the side bar either.

We need both really but more then anything numbers. we are currently sitting at about $44 average per backer which is pretty good...

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but it's a recent article about which kickstarters succeed.

http://gamasutra.com/blogs/TroyLonergan/20130503/191665/What_arent_people_still_understanding_about_Kickstarter_The_answer_is_A_lot.php

As the articles states, I've been doing a bit of math and 350000 / 5000 backers is 70 dollars per backer. that seems excessive even with 5000 backers and we have nowhere near that. As much as I love this game, this is going to be a hard thing to pull off.

Well, right now we're averaging $44 per backer. That means we need almost 8,000 backers total to hit the $350,000.

We're about 4400 backers short. And unless we see a large increase in backers these last 2 weeks, we can expect about another 1300 - 2000. Still short by about 2400 - 3000.

So. What can we do about it? We're already trying to push for more backers. But, we're averaging right now at around 83 backers per day. Not good.

I'd suggest we shoot for 2 things.

Get the majority of the backers that are pledging less than $100 to pldge more and offer more high-end tiers for the whales.

Tweak or replace completely all of the tiers that have no backers. The 10k sold and you only had 1. None of the 5k have sold. Change them. Add a $7500 tier. Heck try for a 15k or even 20k tier.

On the lower end. What can we offer to get 3369 backers that pledged $100 or less to pledge more?

Well, we're stuck at the $25 dollar digital download. Can't really offer the game cheaper. So, maybe a $10 and or $15 tier that offers a t-shirt or dogtags or discount on the game when it goes retail?

Only other thing I could think of is maybe a digital download at $15 or $20. All you get is the game. And previous rewards. But that would mean that everyone else would have to be offered 2 copies of the game to make that work.

That could bring in more backers or piss off the 3500+ that pledged $25 or more and don't want an extra copy of the game.

IMO a lot of the $75 tier needs to be dropped to the $50 tier and adjust the $75 to have some extra stuff to compensate. Primarily Beta testing is a massive draw card (even if only 10% actively report bugs properly!).

That combined with some proper media coverage (come on bC it's your damn license you are throwing away here...) and we'll hit the required number pretty fast.

I've already reached out to some of the contacts I have, and I'll be reaching out to a few more over the weekend. Aussie's a bit of a dead end though so aiming to target some of the UK publications to get some support.

I'm not giving more. Its up to them to prove to me. Not the other way around. If this KS fails it is FC's fail. Not ours. Having said all that the major problem now is getting the word out. A lot of game message board sites dont even know anything about FC, JA, or the kick starter. I've already started chatting it up and posting. JA2 is an old game by today's standards and the newer gamers never heard of it. We need to educate and enlighten them some. Since FC has no advertising budget we'll have to do it the old fashion way. Talk.

@Skott - they ARE using a PR agency to push updates to big media and if you google "Jagged Alliance Flashback" they ARE being reported on. Ofc advertising means something else, but that's not bad either (someone suggested big media are shy from covering KS projects).

But even in the media I noticed people are baffled there's so little to show of this project. The 3D diorama should've been ready from day 1 and so should've been the new merc portraits (at least for a few well known figures).

We can send entire China to their KS page, but we can't ever persuade people who never heard of JA2 or Bear's Pit (or even worse, people who played BiA and got a sick stomach) that JA:F will not be a total waste of money. It's where FC needs to step in...

Well so far we are at only 1k and 18 backers for the day could very well turn out to be the worst day ever. By the way 10k is the max tier for kick starter, cant have anything higher.

I'm at $75 which is already more then I should be spending on an indie game with nothing to show.

Not entirely surprising, unfortunately. Looking around the web there is either hostility or apathy towards the kickstarter. A few optimists are being swayed by the involvement of Chris and the JA community, but that is about it. Many think it is too little, too late and maybe a bit of desperation on FC's part.

If there is a consensus it seems to be "try again when you've proven yourself". Honestly, I feel the same way, but will pledge because the risk is worth it at this stage. I'd pledge at a higher tier if I truly believed these guys could make an acceptable JA follow-up, though.

With the new pledge reshuffle there's plenty of reasons now for people with cash at hand to either upgrade or purchase add-ons.

With the add ons, i could pledge $1 and add $20 and get the bundle + game for $21...

Tbh i really don't think more tiers will help, especially that $15 tier??

If anything you should of lowered your price for the digital to be in line with other kick starters (which were produced by companies which have proven themselves)

To give you an idea....

Wasteland 2 - $15
Project Eternity - $20 (2k limit) 25$ unlimited
Torment - $20 (15k limit) 25$ unlimited
Divinity: Original Sin (game in late alpha, playable build)- $25

And now some indie prices:

Among the Sleep (game in alpha with a playable build + one hell of an original idea) - $15 (limited) $20 unlimited
Road Redemption (also in a playable alpha state) - $15 (unlimited)

Hi,

I have two questions regarding the project:

1) I have learned about the kickstarter project just today and by accident. Question #1: if you want backers from the community, why weren't the forum members informed about the project by a PM/email?
2) If the threshold of US-$ 350,000 is not met, what happens to the money that was donated?

Thanks & regards,
Harper

1) Shanga didn't want to spam people. The idea was brought forward earlier but like I said the admins didn't want to do it.

2) It will be returned to you. Plain and simple.

Thanks.

I read the kickstarter page of JA: F.

My immediate thoughts/impressions:

- Apparently, I cannot avoid being added to the official website credit list. Although this is meant to encourage pleding, to me, it has the opposite effect.
- To me, the story is too realistic and too deeply rooted in what I'd call "the military route" JA has begun to take over the course of modding. What I miss is the more fantastic, more unrealistic element that dominated JA and still could be found in JA 2. Personally, I would have preferred to see this element strenghtened rather than further weakened.
- Nevertheless, I will contribute to the project. Since it appears unlikely that the threshold will be met, my first point seems of little importance, and for the same reason the same seems correct for my second point.

I get the impression it is all or nothing. Their interview in RPGcodex indicated that it cost them around $30k to run this campaign, and it seems highly unlikely that after failing they'd try again.

I agree that the campaign has been poorly run, but at the same time wouldn't exactly blame them if they tried another route. The risk seems high. Also, I think part of the reason for this timing was so that they could transition the Space Hulk team onto JAF. If this KS doesn't succeed, they'll probably have to find other work ASAP.

As a fan I'm frustrated and disappointed, but it goes to show what will happened if you've misstepped in the early stages of your KS campaign. The campaign to fund a Wizardry successor is another example.

In their defence I can't think of a single successful kickstarter that didn't have one of the two:
- working prototype (and often a demo),
- rock solid proven record.
Can you think of one?
