Merc (when seeing enemies): Look at them run, like little hamsters.

Enemy (when fleeing): Retreat! They fight like angry bears!

OK, let me take a shot. I'm not very creative when it comes to stuff like this, so I figured everybody in the late 80's would be quoting popular movies from the 70's and early 80's. (Also: I like to quote movies ^^)

I have so far pledged $115, so I'll do two entries. PM is coming shortly.

Merc1: "I think we're gonna need a bigger boat..."
From: Jaws
When the squad finds a small / shoddy boat. This might be too situational.

Merc2: "I'm a god damm marvel of modern science!"
From: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
When he succeeds at something special / hard.

Enemy1: "Do you feel lucky? Well, do you, punk?"
From: Dirty Harry
Anytime, I guess.

Enemy2: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning!"
From: Apocalypse Now
After surviving a granade / explosion.

Actually all of these could very well be Merc one liners, imo.

Bonus:
From the "unlikely department", but this would make me so happy: We need two Mercs "Snowman" and "Bandit". When they are on the same team, they sometimes have this exchange:

Snowman:"Why are we doing this? They said it couldn't be done."
Bandit:"That's why we're doing it."

From: Smokey and the Bandit

Since the names are not mentioned in the quotes, any pair of buddy mercs could have this dialogue as a reference to the movie ... Smile

Yeah well, i got creative, so just go ahead and pick your favorites. Most of them are applicable to both mercs and enemies and quite universal to any type of character.

Out of contest I would like to have one word appear quite often: MINCED!

Closed? What? I thought it was open until the Kickstarter ended? [EDIT] Nevermind...I see in the rules where it says the contest closes 48 hours before the Kickstarter ends. Darn...I had some good quotes too! Good luck to those that entered!

CONGRATULATIONS TO SLAX FOR WINNING ONELINER CONTEST!

Judges voted him as the winner of the $220 pledge (+$20 addon) for this quote:

Quote:

Enemy torn to shreds by merc auto fire: Makin' bacon'. (Hahahahaha!)

Enemy runs up and pulls a knife: Let's dance, baby!

Slax, you need to get in contact with gdalf, submit final proof of backing and take over your prize!

I know that the contest is over, but here are some bits that I think are pretty cool:

Merc(under heavy fire): It's raining death over here!
Friend of the merc: Good thing you brought an umbrella!

Stabbing an enemy to death: Let me put just the tip in... (creepy chuckle)

Merc(under heavy fire): I swear! If that moron actually hits me Im going to scoop out his eyeballs with a spoon!

Merc (hurt): Im bleeding!
Leader with hight morale: You dont die until I say! So, stop Bleeding and fight back!

When improvising these lines, I had a more untypical role model for a merc in mind. C-3PO.

Merc (spotting a gun): How interesting! Is this a real gun?
Merc (hitting/killing an enemy): OH! OH! I'm sorry, sir!
Merc (selected): You won't regret this, sir!
Merc (enemy spotted): Oh, hello!
Merc (many enemies spotted): Oh my god! Surrender is a perfectly acceptable alternative in extreme circumstances!
Merc (task failed): Don't blame me!
Merc (hit/dying): Something...is not...right...
Merc (enemy head exploded): This is madness!

Enemy: Resistance is futile!

Well, I felt that type of guys like Biff and Gumpy were a bit unrepresented. What does "It won't catch on" mean?

And, because I like it, a second character (Ian Harper, bigmouth, but not a hotshot). It may be that some lines already were used by other mercs or in other games:

Selected: You won't regret your decision, kiddoh. But others surely will.
Enemy spotted: Hey! That's mine!
Many enemies spotted: HAHAHA! Plenty of opportunity! Which one first?
Enemy killed: So easy...
Enemy head exploded: HAHAHA! SUPERNOVA!
Accomplished a task: HAHAHA! I DID IT! Eehh of course, I mean.
Failed a task: That's impossible!
Hit: Just a scratch...
Seriously injured: Okay...I admit...it hurts...
Dying: I...won't...make it...that's...so sad...someone...get me a hanky...
Gun jammed: Great...
Out of ammo: How am I supposed to shoot, kiddoh?
Found some loot: Cool! That's mine!
Saw a rotting corpse: Dammit! He looks so ridiculous!

Ehm. Not sure if this is clear, but this is not about C-3PO. Rather, C-3PO served as a role model when I created the lines for a merc that was more of the kind like Biff or Gumpy.
