Runo Buchinsky
Russian conscript turned thug, turned alcoholic, turned immigrant. Uncouth in manners and speech, Runo at least gets the job done. A loner with a thing for firearms which leave rather large holes in their targets.
Spot the cheesy references, win a high five.
An average man with a not so average attitude. Words are a waste of time. "Gunshot speaks louder than any word", Runo says with a grim murmur. Perhaps he just doesn't like English very much.
Years of drinking, as his heritage demands of him, has knocked his health down a few pegs but other than that he's a lean, oiled machine. Just have some booze ready in case he gets cranky.
Professional merc or a cheap gun for hire? Who knows? I'd guess you'd find him in a dive bar, causing trouble.

Traits: Engineer(1.13)/Electronics(JA2), Ambidexterous
Disability: Nervous
Attitude: Arrogant
Character: Malicious
Voice: Slow and articulate with neutral accent, turns to high-pitched and fast with strong polish accent when under pressure.
Personality/dialogue: Overall professional, with hints of arrogance and sarcasm. High self-esteem (maybe not of Conrad's level). Rare breakdowns when in danger.
Comment: Jagged Alliance need more Poles, so there's the name (good luck at spelling that if you're not polish), also there's subtle pun in surname ("schrzanić" means "to screw up"). I always preferred lower level characters, that you can hire at the beginning of the game, so there's his skills. As for the background and personality I aimed for a character with a lot of quirks, but not over the top, so you wouldn't feel like a joke is being thrown into your face (e.g. Rudolf's swear bombs get old pretty fast).
I take it we're not limited to one merc here, cause I still have some ideas?

@lockie:
DepressivesBrotArrogant facade to hide the nerves? This.
Misfire's a hypocrite. Think of Hudson in Aliens - full of himself, but when the all hell breaks loose turns into a wreck (altough he later redeemed himself).
@scope100: Elvis impersonator?
@all:
Traits:
(JA2)Lockpicking, Teaching
(1.13)Gunslinger, Auto weapons, Teaching
Attitude: Big shot
Character: Showoff
Voice: Slow, relaxed, and a bit hoarse. Californian accent (if there's such a thing:P). In danger - overenthusiastic.
Personality/dialogue: Style over matter, an ode to the kitsch. Guy's melancholic about idealized image of days gone by, hence his nickname. Entire JA has a bit of 80s action movie feeling, so it's only appropriate. Possible clashes with more pragmatic/professional mercs.
