This is my first post on this forum. I am a longtime fan of JA and I just wanted to join the celebration on getting JAF funded. Finally a new Jagged Alliance worthy of the name after waiting a decade and a half. I have to work tomorrow so I can't party tonight, but I will have a few drinks tomorrow night in celebration.

Woo Hoo. Still buzzing from the finale.

Do we need to start planning a "How to install 1.13 with the JA Classic Bundle" document / installer? Smile

Well, what a ride it was guys!

Even i will go get me some cider and mead to drink that atrocious weather here sunny for me, knowing that i now again have something to look foward to in my dreary, joyless life!

You know what this Kickstarter reminded me of? A desperate financier for a just cause, struggling to scrape together barely enough basic funds, to hire a couple of independent professional contractors to send them on a mission to do the impossible.
He succeeds barely eventually, the small band of contractors heads off into the unknown with their limited resources, knowing only that the only thing they can rely on arrival, is the support of a band of ailing but determined locals, struggling desperately to keep alive a resistance movement and the remembrance of and hope for better times for their downtrodden people for a long, long time from their humble headquarters with minimal resources.
And their first priority after arrival, will be to secure a solid foothold and acquire additional funds and resources from the locals, to organize a combined effort and get their long march to the final target going...

Dunno why this feels so damn familiar. :dontknow2:

Anyways, i plan on involving myself into this process as closely as i can and scrape together all the funds i can manage for the slacker backer campaign, even if that means i

My second post on the pit since I signed up in 2008...

It's funded!!!
We just got there as I had to go to work, daym! Work had never been that easy and fun.

Ofcourse, beer has been consumed and sacrificed to the gods and the honor of JA since I came home from work.

Btw... I finally picked an avatar on here, sadly I couldn't recognize my fav merc, Spam, the poor UN soldier gone merc... One day I'll remember wich one he is! Cuz he was my favorite... in the one game he appeared in Razz

Now we need an actual streaming party for this with FC!

Wish I had the time to play all over again to experience 1.13 but I definitely don't have the time these days.

Mauser.. hmmm.. not really. Sounds like it might make for an interesting game one day though Wink

Wow I just went back and read my original rant to them in my first post... Except for the working demo (which they got next best through the diorama) they literally did everything else categorically to address my concerns. They stopped the pointless polls and began to exercise leadership with their vision. They got modders in as consultants. They stopped with the defensive part and kept emphasising the positive parts... If they got WASTE in they'll be FC 4: gdalf 0. Surprised that's pretty amazing for a two week turnaround

That's exactly the trend I was waiting on before deciding to endorse them. It took about two weeks of jerking on the chain, but when I saw they're actually woken up and figured their "perfect KS" was a piece of crap I figured it's time to jump in and help. For the record, I liked them from day 1, indie studio going to KS was a nice idea... but life as a JA fan taught be to never trust a book by the cover or a dev by their PR.Smile

As Sun Tzu would say, no plan survives contact with the enemy (unless it's JA2 and you've played a hundred times and know the AI inside out Wink). How FC responded really impressed me. And I echo the others here who point out that less people in alpha and beta will be a good thing. I really wanted to nerdrage at the folks shouting Y NO BETAZ FOR 25 DOLLAHZ?!!?!!1?

FC know they've got a tough crowd but it will make the game better and I know they won't take us for granted. Can't wait for official forums to open and can't wait for a new 1.13 build to tide us over until then

Edit: just saw the PayPal total, that means less than $20k to the map editor or 700 new $25 backers - totally doable!

I only played Deadly Games back in the day, and Back in Action just recently. Can someone referate how JA2 differed from these two?
I think nothing bugged me about Deadly Games, but there were alot of things wrong in Back in Action... So I take it that JA2 was like Deadly Games, but improved?

I never played the original JA, I don't think it was distributed here. But from gameplay videos I've seeen the strategic depth of JA2 is far superior in every way - partly why I never had the urge to try JADG. And 1.13 is on a whole nother level over JA2

I am very happy and proud of Full Controll! It was an awesome moment to see Full Control partying during the "sucker was funded" - great thing. Wink

So, now I am really, REALLY excited about the release "later" and of course I will watch the progress of that game... Smile

Also my Steam group will experience some nice new entertainment stuff in future. Smile

Let's hope for reaching all remaining stretch goals!

Btw.:

Soo... do any of you know how hard I will need to bump my head against a wall to wake up from the coma in November 2014? 1.5 years of waiting for the game will turn me into a nervous, gibbering wreck.

Yeah not many of the bigger gaming websites ever post anything about kickstarter projects, but then again they mainly focus on console games anyway.

"bigger" gaming sites = pander to advertising revenues = overrate "AAA" games

Stopped listening to them years ago - just check Metacritic for disparities in reviews before I check out a game (not that I trust Metacritic entirely either, but there's much more interesting takes on games than just "blahblah gunz-on-railz-r-kool blahblah" there

Better than metacritic is gamerankings by the way. They don't have their own weird math system included. Interesting read about that by the way: http://www.vg247.com/2013/03/28/metacritic-weighting-system-report-wholly-wildly-inaccurate-site-says/

I gave up on gaming sites a long time ago.

I remember they all wrote how fantastic football manager 20something was etc. I got the game (luckily for free) and it was completely unplayable because it was full of bugs. people at EA's official forum went nuts because the game seemed to have been shipped in its alpha state. this was noticeable right from the installation which didn't work and only a few hours of playing. but according to all the reviews the game was fantastic... up yours pc games & co!

Should check out Rock Paper Shotgun, they are pretty good and relatively unbiased. At least they were calling out Maxis/EA for the Sim Fail City release...

I quite like RPS, although their social commentary blog posts can be annoyingly hipster and over the top sometimes... good writers when they focus on the games tho, I also like that they don't put arbitrary scores on their reviews...

I don't mind PC Gamer either

Yeah, RockPaperShotgun.com is an excellent gaming news site.

Was a bit annoyed when they cocked up the JA:Flashback interview though, the interviewer left the second half of it on his laptop which is now on a different continent from himself, which means that the JA:F campaign didn't really get the coverage it deserved.

Speaking of gaming magazines, this month I've seen something that I never thought I would see in my life. I was in the mall and I saw LEVEL (romanian edition) featuring the big W from World of Tanks on the cover. I had played WoT since CB, but I've pretty much quit it lately because the game turned into utter crap. So I was curious to see it bashed in LEVEL (cause they usually don't spare anyone).

With much disgust I read a 3 pages marketing editorial, completely irrelevant and full of bullshit. I was prepared to throw the magazine in the bin but at last glance I spotted the editors-in-chief piece (that I usually skip) on the 1st page. Boy oh boy! Basically the man said this: "If times weren't so hard and this magazine didn't struggle to make ends meet, I would've quit my job for what we did today. The cover should've been about Bioshock:Infinite, but that's life..etc...etc". Indeed inside the magazine, Bioshock got a perfect 10 review, while WoT was rated an overinflated 8.5.
My jaw dropped to the floor. It was the first time I saw a gaming editor that had the balls to admit they were payed off and sold themselves. Guess he was trying to keep a shred of self-respect...

Hey there. We won't go for Greenlight. Just because so far we don't need it. First of all the Jagged Alliance brand is still quite some name. And we also already made a steam-deal for Space Hulk as well. We are in the lucky position to talk directly to Steam. Same as Publishers, you know. Some studios can do that as well. But for that you either need to be very good or have a lot of luck. It's up to you folks, what of these things we are Wink
