Are we going to hear voice actors from the original games or perhaps just people who sound similar? I could see it being a big challenge to get the original cast and there might be some logistic problems, but some of the original voices are pretty iconic. Of course the game is set in earlier time and the people are younger, so fairly similar voices could pass too. But it would be great to get some of the more legendary voices covered by the original cast.

I know this is a pretty minor topic considering everything else, but hey.. the mercs are the first thing I think of when I think of Jagged Alliance! And it's the little things that count!

Yup , money being the first problem !
There must be actors doing voiceover work that would do it on the cheap , guess there would be volunteers from here but the varying quality of sound files would kill that idea dead .

Fewer than you think and even fewer who actually deliver. My greatest respects to those that do.

I'm sure they have plenty of budget to get professional voice actors, as the amount of material to record probably isn't that huge unless they plan to add a lot more story related dialogue than in previous games. The interesting question if there are any of the same actors and that becomes a big a challenge since you'd have to contact them each separately etc. One could argue having the same voices isn't worth the trouble, though. The worst they could do is get plenty of Norwegian accent or fan voice actors in there lol.

We tried to get in touch with some of the old voice actors. Some are quite famous these days. Guess what? No one answered so far. It's gonna be pretty hard. We have some friends at some loca-studios, so we definitely will have voice overs. We will however ask you, the community, if the voice actors fit for the "old" characters before we are going to use them. At least that's the plan Very Happy

I wonder if the original voice actors sound the same 14 years later, anyway. Plus half fan-base has played localized versions and to them "Fox" sounds like another "Fox".

And! if in shortage of voice actors, someone from FC can always come over to the summer euro meeting with a tape recorder!
That's only about 450km's!

Scratch that, he should come over anyway. I'm sure smeag won't mind if we invite random people to his place.

Well, you guys still got some time to get the originals to reconsider, but on the other hand, most somewhat capable voice actors should be able to at least approximate the original character voices to a close enough degree. Digital audio manipulation technology should be able to do the rest then.

Also, it wouldn

Plus that. Forgot to mention this. Age + locas also matter. So it may be better in the end to have new actors as well. But again: Before we do so we will try to ask you folks.

IMO, make a new casting and choose voices according to the merc personnalities, and how you want them to sound.
If you come and ask us to choose between some samples, it suits me fine!

In my opinion quality is much more important than replication - if they're well done and funny, who cares if they don't sound exactly like the old JA2 gang?

Prbly this might be the one solution left if no one responses. Plus some of them are so famous that this would take a huuuuge budget cut :-/

Ya, I wouldn't bother if they charge more than whatever the standard rate is, not worth it.

Obviously we want quality work, but if it's a big hit on the budget, I'd settle for mostly text this go around with more voice overs added later with a free patch if the money is available.

If you can have old voices of JA, it will be undoubtedly a great plus.

If you can't, it's not the important thing.
The important thing, it's to have a professional crew, and hire an artistic agent/casting director for that, somebody to hire and manage professional actors/comedians.

Texts will be very important too, for credibility of your actors. Present a solid background to them if you can, for each character, this people work at home and like their job.

And if you need to recruit, look to the danish theather schools. I'm sure than some of them offer english/american lessons (with Actors Studio method for example), and whith a high level.
Maybe you will find some strangers in Danemark here, it's not impossible too and perfect for the accents of JA. Wink

The bad example, it's Wildfire, the new mercenaries have no personality and they are really transparent. That's the difference between professional work and amateur.

Dialogues, scenario and characters of JA2 was very solid, actors was awesome and chosen well. It's the secret of the succes of this game too.

I think than it will be the bigger challenge for you on this game, but we believe in you guys, courage. Smile
