I understand that there are several factions in JAF, which is something awesome, I think, and as I have enough ideas about all kinds of stuff in Jagged Alliance games, I thought it couldn't hurt to share some about this apect of the game... I also wish to ask the people from the JAF team what is already decided about this... You could keep this simple, but if you dig into this deeper, it could have an enormous impact on replayability and the fun in the game.

First of all, I understood from the kickstarter that the loyalty can increase or decrease if you support several factions, which is something I really like. I suppose some will be temporary allies then, or at least neutral, whereas others will be enemies.

But will there also be an explicit diplomacy mechanism to negotiate with factions? There are several ways to achieve this.
You could have diplomacy available via the strategy screen, but you could also have this in certain locations, certainly in an RPG... In some bars/clubs where people call (a deputy of) the faction leader, cf. San Mona in JA2, or a more dangerous way could be by going to or being escorted to their base (a nice way to get a glimpse of more remote sectors). In the same way, you could invite them to your base or a more neutral place like a club.

For their neutrality or alliance you could:
- complete missions for them
- pay them
- deliver arms
- trade weapons (and maybe other supplies)
- release / exchange prisoners
...

If you attack their enemies or protect them, they could in turn support you too with:
- money
- weapons
- personnel for gun smithing
- their men (temporary mercs or somekind of militia type) at your disposal for certain missions or for a campaign
...

(In the last case some of the mercs who join you in a campaign, but were actually hired by another faction, can stay loyal with their employers when your campaign diverts towards their faction. Depending on their character, some of them may also be impressed by your leadership and choose your side, some of them wish offer you a chance to bribe them first, etc.)

Some factons may break treaties unannounced, some may not pay you after a mission, some may try to assassinate you even if you get too powerful or just for your money... depending on the character of the faction leaders. (The hopeful people will obviously less likely betray your trust without provocation compared to a treacherous druglord).

JA:F team @ FC is awkwardly silent the past weeks, also on their own forums.

They better be hard at work with something substantial and important, because their community management and info policy kinda sucks so far.

They are NOT working atm on JA:F, they are working full speed on Space Hulk which is due for release. And very important for the future of JA:F too, as we all know.

Let's give them some breathing room for the moment. After SH is released, we can grill them. I'll bring the barbecue sauce myself. Aprons are available from BP Zazzle store. Very Happy

I agree. It's not uncommon for companies to hold a bit of radio silence. They've told us in their last update that they would be focusing on Space Hulk now. Patience Wink

We have been a bit silent I agree and I apologize, but as Shanga says we're focusing on getting Space Hulk finished up and as polished as possible.

We're planning on making an update once the Paypal Kickstarter ends and goes into Slacker mode, so you don't have to wait a lot longer for more info Smile

In JA2 we have Hicks, so...

The Hill brothers
Three brothers that lead a raider gang of bikers. You have the oldest brother who is also the leader by the name of Billy Hill, 2nd oldest who is Billy's most trusted companion named Red and the youngest (only 18 year old and a little bit retarded) by the name of Nick called Little Nicky. Wink ROFL

And in difference to Hicks, I wouldn't make theirs hideout "static/predefined" but rather like Skyraider (few sectors where they might be) so the Hill brothers quest could have some more RPG elements that way.

Alright, so what is a gang of random hillbilly bikers doing on a tropical island in a cold war conflict again? What is their motivation for being there, how do they fit the scenario?

They are there for the fun of the game...
Theirs motivation is that is a cold war and that gives them the opportunity to raid some small island that they live on (or at least some small towns).
They fit scenario as much as Hicks do in JA2 :dontknow2:
And they can bi tropical hillbilly natives (no need for "american hillbilly" look as Hicks have).
