Hmm. From a modding perspective, this is very good, as a map editor will be much needed for any serious modding, and could be a powerful 'pro' of this game. It also shows that FC themselves see it as an important tool for the community.

From a gamer perspective, this is very bad. They wouldn't have done this if they had faith that the community would come up with enough money to reach the stretch goal. Meh.

Well, that's good news!

It means that currently, FC is pretty confident that it will be able to deliver a solid base game and the editor for the community to play with to go along with it.

Is it because the pre-orders for Space Hulk have been so promising?
Is it because they see how all important the editor is for Shadowrun Returns and they just want to do better than that?

Who really cares as long as we do not have to make an editor ourselves! Rejoice!

I can see a LOT more than that, at least, if the editor is better than the one Shadowrun Returns got!
But hey, Unity engine is something different than some scrawny self developed engine, with a lot more free and commercial tools and people developing with and for it.

So unless the FC guys don

I think learning the lessons from Shadowrun are appropriate too. By any standards the packaged campaign was short and linear and would have been blasted by reviews if that was all there is to it. But the map editor meant the game wasn't just a game and more of a platform, and the reviews acknowledged that. I think it was worth about 1.5 points on a scale of 10 alone, and FC have also seen how much they stand to benefit shipping the game as a platform. Of course we all hope JAF will be nonlinear and more varied too, though they're operating on a shoestring compared to the Shadowrun guys.
