hello Surprised),

I was playing JA a long time ago.
Tired of MMORPGs, i thought about playing again some good games like JA.
Thus this summer, while looking on the net about JA2, i often found myself directed to this fine community Surprised)
So i bought JA2 gold (not yet arrived) and JA2WF, since people here stated both are different and interesting Surprised)

Problem is, i bought JA2WF on the net & got myself this:
PC Dvd-rom Enclave including a bonus of JA2WF version 6.04

While enclave is a fine game that i didnt know about,
each time i play JA2WF i have to re-install it Surprised(
because the exe to JA2WF6 doesnt seem to work.

Would anyone be so kind as to explain me what i should do in order to play without having to uninstall & install the game each time i play ?
Besides, solving this problem would allow me to play with the latest patches/mods this community made Surprised)

Thanks Surprised)

Slid

PS: i didnt know where to post this message, so put it in off topic ^^

PS2: anyone know how to change the order of mercs in your team? i know its possible since i somehow had a merc change of place in the team once (tactical view), went from spot 4 to spot 1 in a team of 4. (i thought it was another bug so i did reload saved game then, but now i'd like to know more Surprised) & i didnt find it in the hot-keys list )

Never played Wildfire myself, but I'd check your Wildfire install is up to date and using the latest patches.

I'd suggest maybe looking here for some info...or you could repost your questions there?

It did look like to me that this link of yours is the only place i can see JA2WF discussed , but wasnt sure since its for developpers..

I'll wait a couple days, see if someone comes with some help in here.. Then i'll repost on that forum.

So far i only played JA1 & JA2WF6, so cant say if you should play WF ;o)

Problem with patches, is i cant install a patch since you need to restart the game after downloading a patch... thus i'd have to re-install the vanilla WF in order to start the game.. (yay for bugs Surprised( )

Besides, i seen the names patch, mod, AIMNAS (smeagol) and i dont know if they are synonyms or not, if i have to install all those 3... Yeah i'm new to those terms and its not that simple to get with a clear answer by looking around here ^^

thanks Surprised)

Nope, that forum is for JA:Wildfire players. The devs of vanilla WF don't frequent BP. But other players who experienced your problem might help. Also searching for a similar issue helps.

Since you're so timid, I moved the topic for you in the proper forum.

Could you elaborate a bit as to why you (think you) have to re-install the game to re start it?
(And for tech support issues it's helpful to provide info about your system, esp. which version of windows exactly is involved etc.)

I have no experience with WF but if reinstalling was due to game not recognizing cd key or such, the cure is often to start game explicitly via "run as admin" in order to allow storage of key in registry.

And finally: welcome to the pit!

Thx shanga & sam,

Well, when you install the game, you have the option to start the game right after finishing the install, and it works properly.

On the other hand, when i try to run the game using the exe file, i see the computer working (a few seconds) then nothing happens.
Nothing at all, even if i go eat & come back...

There is no error code, nothing to help understand whats wrong
& the other game, enclave, works fine with the .exe.

My system:
Operating System: Windows

Your problem might be with Win7 and old games such as JA2.

1. Do not install under /Program Files.
2. "Run as Admin" when setting up and even launching.
3. Run in "Win95 Compatibility Mode".

Small correction since quite a few people mix those up. Having an admin account and running something as administrator are two different things. Run as administrator runs the program with elevated privileges (thus the UAC prompt), while having an administrator account means you don't have to supply credentials to be able to run as administrator.

As for JA2:WF not working, the reason it may work after the installation is because the installation is run elevated, thus the game also runs elevated. Running as admin should cover that, as should setting any compatibility option. A second possibility is that Games Explorer tries to identify the game, which means that when you run the game you should have both its exe and a rundll32.exe in task manager. Run the game twice, and then end one of the two processes. If this gets the game working, it means that it's a Games Explorer thing. Post here and I'll try to find how to bypass that error.

I didn't say C:, i said "Program Files" which Win7 protects whether on C or D or Z drive. Just install under own directory (I have JA2 in C:/JA2 and works just fine under Win7).

As Jmich said, that's a different cup of tea. Running games "as admin" can be done from any account (on a regular account will prompt for admin password). Even if you are logged in directly as admin, that won't help with some old games and you will have to specifically tell it to use admin rights by checking "Run as Administrator".

Glad to hear it works.
