Nice. Perhaps this might turn out better than my attempt ;-(

The important thing here is that there is no reason at all to keep MAX_NUMBER_PLAYER_MERCS and MAX_NUMBER_PLAYER_VEHICLES at 24 and 2. The slots are reserved for it anyway, and it is (as of recently) only used on gamestart. Not having this at 32 and 6 is needlessly screwing new players.

Cool, good to see someone else is enthusiastic about this. I'm hoping to improve my gaming experience through the INI and help others if I can.

The only think I go at here normally is: MAX_STRATEGIC_ENEMY_GROUP_SIZE = 20

I have it at 30 at the moment, and along with a few other settings it makes for a tough start to the game. I was praying for .38 ammo! When does that happen ha.

Oh, on that one... NEVER increase MAX_STRATEGIC_ENEMY_GROUP_SIZE in an existing campaign, even though it is possible. I recently did that, an had to discover that it effectively stopped D from sending out squads... she generated them with the old value, but then did not sent them as they were now to small... :wb:

If I were wanting to change the MAX_STRATEGIC_ENEMY_GROUP_SIZE and those kinds of entries I would have to vote for code level change to have them set by difficulty. Generally I play expert and experienced (depending on mod and mood) and i've occasionally bumped it up to 24 or 28.
I could see it being a 20/24/28/32 depending on difficulty.

of course if we are going to get those changed by difficulty i'd vote we do all the ini as difficulty sets, so when you start the game, it loads the appropriate set rather than have to recode each value.

my 2 cents so far.

Hmm, I did that in my last campaign - reduced squads from 40 to 32 in the middle of campaign and it worked (D was still sending troops). Maybe its the specific values that cause such behavior? I do remember having a game where D didn't send any troops from the start of the game but I had value around 50-60 (being testing it). Couldn't reproduce it though. Maybe its just for increasing values not decreasing. I'm confused now.

The valid range for MAX_STRATEGIC_ENEMY_GROUP_SIZE is from 10 to 100, so 80 will work (no idea how you want to deal with such gigantic enemy groups, but that's your problem happy )

Be warned however, that decreasing this number later on in a campaign could lead to D not sending out troops anymore (it doesn't have to, but that might happen).
