It's a big feature of 1.13 and often overlooked. It can dramatically change your game so I'm putting together this series where people can discuss each INI entry and offer suggestions for more realistic/fun settings etc...

I won't put them all up at once, but eventually we should have a database of recommendations for each INI. So post your settings and reasons why you use them!

Please include a version number at the top of your post to keep info relevant. E.G. 1.13 v6484 (Press V in game to get version number if you're unsure.)

GENERAL SETTINGS

1.System Limit Settings
2.Data File Settings
3.Recruitment Settings
4.Financial Settings
5.Troubleshooting Settings
6.Graphics & Sound Settings

TACTICAL SETTINGS

7.Tactical Interface Settings
8.Tactical Difficulty Settings

I play with the INI tweaked for a more full-scale war feeling. More money at game start (though not a broken amount), a few other changes, including MAX_STRATEGIC_ENEMY_GROUP_SIZE at 64. These kind of numbers don

Cool, If you want to add them to the appropriate INI as I add them that would be great. Just mark them Full Scale War so we can have a set.

after updating SVN as usual I cannot start ini editor. It says:
There is an error in xml document (5911,97)
while loading XML Description File.

I reverted all changes to Tabledata folder, but still cannot launch ini editor.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The only xml the ini editor should ever need to read is one of those in the root folder. Should have a pretty obvious name.

Problem with the browser?

Here is the Russian description for "MAX_NUMBER_MILITIA_IN_TACTICAL" (copied from INIEditorJA2Options.xml):

Устанавливает максимальное количество ментов на одной локации. Варьируется от 16 до 64, по умолчани = 32

If you want to provide some translations best way is to translate your file and upload it somewhere. This can then be merged with the GameDir.

Mods are allowed to use HTML and special characters to post. And the forum uses UTF-8 encoding. Check the source:

meta charset="utf-8"

But I cannot allow everyone to post HTML and special characters for obvious reasons. [color:#CC0000]Ask a mod to edit your message and post it as HTML if you need to show off a message in Russian or any other special chars language.[/color]

I was wrong, check my post. It's not about code tags, it's about HTML special chars which are disallowed. But any mod can edit this kind of posts and repost them as HTML to fix them. I just did that above.

Well, Control Panel has UTF-8 apparently, but the rest of the forum is still 8859. They promised a complete switch/conversion to UTF-8 on UBB 8.0 but God knows when that's coming. Manual switch is possible, but has problems:

Quote:
It's a pretty big process to convert the database to utf-8 but one we're doing for version 8. You might be able to get away with just changing the charset in the languages/english/generic.php to utf-8 and see if that works for you. Side effects might be some multi-byte characters not displaying properly.

Guys,

I added missing Russian translations of Sections to descriptions in INI editor.

http://rghost.ru/50079320

Now every Section description is available in Russian. It is not final version, but most of it.
Next time I will go through all items inside sections.

I was wondering is there any chance to store my ini settings when updating (reverting) through SVN to new Ja2options.ini file? because every time new ja2options.ini is available merging is not working, and redo all my settings again (same goes to xml files as well)

is there any dedicated software that could merge files? or maybe I am doing something wrong with Tortoise SVN?

Why don't use standart ini merging?

;******************************************************************************************************************************
; Merging of INI files across the various profiles as defined at [vfs_config] in vfs_config.XXX.ini
; Settings is read from right to left, with 'UserProf' as the topmost/first order. Use ',' to include/separate other INIs
;******************************************************************************************************************************

MERGE_INI_FILES = Ja2_Options.ini

As for xml merging, TortoiseMerge, WinMerge or various xml-merging programs (Altova DiffDog or similar) could help.

As far as i understand this feature, options from ja2_options.ini placed in your profile dir override options from any other ja2_options.ini, keeping any newly added options unaffected.
