Okay, so I finally managed to extract one of the binoculars items from my single-string items.xml file (somehow it got concatenated, losing every line break.. I think the xml editor might have done that. Hmm.)

Code right here:
Toggle Spoiler

Now I know I need to give it , but I don't have the default value that would normally show up in a fresh install.

1) The example above is for compact binocs (item #199). Can somebody share the value with me?
2) also, if possible, the value for the quality binocs (item #200)
3) Does the tag fit anywhere and it will be parsed either way? or does it belong with one group of tags or another?

Thanks!

You should use Notepad++, the normal Notepad does weird things to formatting. Campact binoculars have 50 and quality ones have 70. Values between 0 and 100 are valid. You can put the tag anywhere on that item.

Bug: Using the XML Editor that comes with the latest SCI and saving (the XML Editor) in any way overwrites spotting tags

Use a newer one. XML Editor 162 is the current latest. Grab it from here.

Thank you JMich. It's annoying to have to re-add the tags EVERY TIME i make an edit in the XML editor.

As of r7774,
  • The spotter minimum preparation time has been lowered to 2 turns (was 3),
  • the spotter cth bonus has been doubled,
  • and the spotter cth bonus now works for rifles and sniper rifles. Otherwise spotting was absolutely useless in the beginning, due to lack of 'real' sniper rifles early on.
And yes, this occured to me while actually playing myself ;). I will likely visit some other features in the future.

It's not cheating if the game mechanic itself changes. angel

I know now that it could never work between us, as much as we wanted to, it could never be! Not because you're a rabbit, but because you're black.

If you want, you can donate to me. This will not affect how and what I code, and I will not code specific features in return. I will be thankful though.

Hi, mind to teach me where to edit and change spotter cth bonus works both for rifles and sniper rifles? I'm playing a 7609 "stable version".

Look for SPOTTER_MAX_CTHBOOST in JA2_Options.ini. However, note that in stable, the bonus will only work for sniperrifles, not rifles - the above code change is not in stable.

I'm a bit confused. Does spotting work for the whole area outside the minimum spotting range or just the 9*9 tile spot?

Read the first post again and look at the picture.

Anything within the green circle you can communicate to. Any target within the orange circle you don't give any bonuses for (i.e. you're not really helping, they can clearly see) --- anything that's further away than the orange circle AND that you can see, you can help with spotting (to anyone within your green circle)

OK, what's the purpose of the green 9x9 square (shown at the mouse cursor location when activating spotting), then? And why activating spotting on a tile you can't see returns a message to that effect (and thus no preparation takes place)?
