Editor Sneak Peek

Since the end of our Kickstarter the editor has been a hot topic and backers wanted to know more about modding, so therefore we have decided to share a first glimpse of our internal level editor in action with the community. Our Level Designer, Filip Pilebo, gave it a quick run through, see below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CN2naxne_c[/video]

Just to clarify, the editor runs as an extension to the Unity game engine (http://unity3d.com/), therefore you need to install Unity in order to use the Jagged Alliance: Flashback level editor. The basic version of Unity is free, so basically all you need to make sure to have is a copy of the game and Unity installed to create your own sectors. You will be able to export your custom levels from the editor and play them within the game itself.

This is just the first step and we will keep adding more stuff to the editor along the way as well as new and useful tools. We will do a follow up on the progress at a later point and share more detailed information about modding possibilities.

For the record: I will make an clinic out of this thing, as long as I can import cinema4d and obj models into it.

I expect the scenery to look at least like this, or else...

I really liked the diorama, and I haven't seen the same thing in their demo level.. disappointing.

Call me blind but I can't see any similarities between that and the one they posted:

It's not even the same car make/model.

If you take the hammer and hit it a few times it looks just the same! Smile)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50A9wjJ40Dk

this reminds me of an old joke:

denis goes to school for the first time and everybody starts laughing of his name:

"look you can change a single letter and you'll have a bad stupid name"

the 2nd day the same thing, the 3rd day the same thing, until one day when some kid says the same thing, denis replies:

"look you can change a few letters and you get F... you!"

Sorry Shanga I'm a non believer and so far ja2 looks pretty awesome!

You're comparing apples and oranges. One is a finished product, polished by modders over more than a decade, the other is a project not in alpha stage yet. If you want to compare JAF to JA2, compare it to the JA2 alpha screenshots from JAG Museum.

http://www.jagalaxy.com/files/JA2_Museum/Aimindex_670191084.jpg

I have no idea how JAF is gonna be or if it's going to be any good at all. But bitching endlessly about it in such an early stage, instead of offering feedback (despite the fact that they're very open to it) is kinda getting on my nerves. If this was a closed project you would be happier? It's a pretty unique chance we have - a developer taking step-by-step feedback from the community. Never happened before and will probably never happen again. Going negative on their asses will only result in a crap end product and a missed opportunity for us. If you want to moan and bitch at least do it when they deserve it. If you don't know when is that, watch me go ballistic on them and you'll be notified.

Something to remember is that pre-Alpha, and Alpha states never look like a finished product. They are test and development states, if you saw some of the work on UI's and so on in the base files for JA2 you would be like WTF are these, they look crap.

Same with JAF, it will look avg to start with, the polish is the way they finish it for release. I really hope to help with the UI too Smile

I bought Wasteland 2 beta , and would agree that early looks and play ( hopefully ) will get more polish ! Any ideas when the beta of JAF will be available to try out ?

according to the interview on rockpapershotgun, steam early access (=beta, if I understood correctly) will start end of may.

end of may seems optimistic to me. just one month to add a whole bunch of features, not likely. i expect the start of the beta to be augustish.

Steam EA does not equal beta, there are plenty of alphas on there.

Well, there aren't any clear and binding rules - devs can label their development phases however they want. And, I've seen alphas more polished & complete than some traditonally released games.

I might be wrong, but I think in the case of JA:F what was called "beta" in the kickstarter pledge options equals steam early access.
