@eisenstolz: do not translate the German.EnemyTaunts.xml file for now. The file will be split up in multiple files.
I will do this today. once done, I will notify you and send you the files so you can translate!

@hrvg:

Thanks for the tutorial.
Now I can see the conflict.

The ccp files are full of developer notes and mostly already translated.
I don't want to destroy the files by mistake. I have to understand the syntax and links to other files first.

I approach the character problem via WinMergePortable.
I compare/match every line and the quantity of chars, trying not to exceed the original count whereby german count is always higher Wink

Do you know if it is possible to line break hints or do you have to stay in the line (see your scrfeenshot )?

Thx!

"Backgrounds.xml" file. you can break lines with [color:#CC0000] [/color].

Then you open "Backgrounds.xml" file. can disappear (to see screen, Index 66.) It's not important.

@RoWa21:

Hello, I updated and noticed that the entire Enemy Taunts files are restructured. However, the original Chinese.enemytaunts.xml has been translated halfway already. If it is changed only structurally, no new content added, could you please take a little time and rearrange the Enemy Taunts files for Chinese specifically, so I would spent much less time re-translate it (I have absolutely no idea how are these files rearranged).

Thanks.

Regarding loadscreenhints: The max allowed length of a text is 190. Exceeding text will be cut. Doing otherwise would causes crashes whenever a longer text is displayed in a message log. This is due to VIDEO_OVERLAY_DESC only having space for 200 signs, which we will not change for something mundane as a loascreen hint.

It happens only if the text is long enough. Which made it quite confusing to find, as the hints are chosen at random.

English update:

Have revised the two EnglishText .cpp files, Backgrounds.xml, and Email .xmls.

Partial work on LoadScreenHints.xml, CampaignStatsEvents.xml, and Items.xml (this is the big one of course).

I had already looked at the Taunts .xmls (made changes on the Google docs and in the taunts thread) so I won't be making another pass through them.

Feature request for 2014 release:
Language specific Ja2_Options.ini for foreigners.

The first time I read through Ja2_Options.ini it took me about an entire day! Now I'm starting to translate the thousands lines of parameter descriptions so that the others do not need to carry a dictionary along with the seemingly endless configurations. I think it would be a good idea to create language specific Ja2_Options.ini for each language branch so that it would be convenient in the future if there are any updates.

Edit:

Zwwooooo reminds that the INI_Editor has the exact function I just mentioned...However I still prefer reading this file directly.

My plan is to translate them both (copy new added descriptions from .ini to the editor), this will include all other .ini (most of them all universal) and many .xml header descriptions (most of them are separated now).

Exactly, the INI Editor currently supports a few languages (English, German, Russian, Polish and Chinese) for the property comments.

Of course you can also translate the comments directly in the ja2_options.ini file. But it would be fine if you also update (copy and paste) the Chinese comments in the INIEditorJA2Options.xml file.

You can start with the source code files. Most of the text (~80%) is already translated.
Just download the ZIP-File from here, start notepad++ and translate the missing text. Search for the // TODO.Translate comments.

The file "Data-1.13\Email\EmailMercAvailable.xml" has missing texts for the new DG mercs. If someone wants to help on this task, just open the file and search for "Message : TODO!"
and post your texts here.

For example:

Subject : FW from AIM Server: Message from Dr. Ahmad Koolhan
	Message : TODO!

	230
Subject : FW from AIM Server: Message from Glen Hatchet
	Message : TODO!

How's translation going?
We are neither hoarding gold nor accumulating 'limit break gauges' here. Once a decent amount of files are translated, feel free to submit them in batches. Do not wish any good work done to be lost by unforeseen circumstances. Smile

Members who are late for the party, please contact the relevant translators on how to split the 'spoils of war'. Very Happy

@ The German T-Squad
You can submit the completed files that have passed the internal quality assurance to get your names engraved into the SVN changelog.

@ eternal
Thanks ahead for polishing our English cave scribblings.

@ anv
Thanks for completing the Polish EDT files.

P.S. Kudos to our French and Chinese counterparts for their long-term dedication.

Edit:
Best to post the translated files as a download link in this thread. Those who have SVN write access (which I do not have) will pick it up.

Hi,
currently, there is no Spanish language of JA2 1.13 available. But if you would like to translate all the English text to Spain you are welcome.

I have uploaded the ingame text files. You can download it from here and start the translation process. Have fun Smile
