For a while now, I've been decided to slow down with the new items aspect on UC-1.13 (and consequently related mods) and move onto something new - messing with the tilesets used by maps. The first steps were taken a while ago with exporting Ja2Set.dat.XML from the original Urban Chaos .DAT file and the edits needed to get the extra item libraries working. Today before work I took a shot at simply adding the sandbag(s) tileset to get Flugente's Constructable static fortifications feature working on the landing map - and promptly crashed the game and map editor.

I'm creating this thread for a few reasons:
1) I am probably going to need some help on this one, aside from adding the 3 STI's needed for the extra item graphics, and hacking one tile for the subway maps I've got no experience with the tileset. As far as getting the XML started, I needed DepressivesBrot's help on that two years ago. Additionally, the documentation has been moved out of the SCI (I'll look for it later).

2) Let everyone know why I've been ignoring item addition requests, and for that matter seeing if Big Maps is compatible with the externalized tileset (on the one map I keep saying I will test it on). Getting the fortifications to work right now is the only new feature planned for v4.49 - I'll still be bug fixing, and updating for existing features in development (ie. drivable vehicle changes since the last SCI).

I'm currently adding sandbags to all ('cept maybe underground) tilesets in Vengeance: Reloaded for the same reason, got quite a bit of experience too with tilesets, so gimme a shout if something starts to really bug you.

You can always check out the guidelines I put together and collated from others elsewhere here too: http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=285585&&srch=tileset+editing+guidelines#msg_285585

It's a fairly big read, but a lot of it is breaking down Vanilla slots and tiles as well as some rudimentary art tips.

Thanks, I'll be resuming work on trying to figure out the tilesets soon. Just one question, is Vengeance: Reloaded using the original .DAT format, or an XML exported version of Ja2Set.dat?

More weapon features and upgrade options, via (mis)use of v1.13 for vanilla Arulco, Dedrianna Lives! and Urban Chaos campaigns.

Originally we were using the .DAT format, but Anv externalised it to an XML version for some reason or other. Either way it doesn't make much difference to me, it's just a case of typing values in an XML editor over the old JA Tileset editor. I currently actually fill out values in both, as I prefer the Tileset editor's visual feedback rather than just lines of code. The data in the tileset editor is ignored, but it's good reference for me when I need observe/change values among them as a whole.
