Helicopter settings are in /Data-1.13/Helicopter_Settings.ini, perhaps this will solve your issue.

Constructing/deconstructing structures requires the map to have he necessary tilesets. This is basically a map issue that you cannot solve yourself (unless you are really familiar with the map editor, I wouldn't advise trying it otherwise). In stock vanilla maps, this is only rarely possible to do. In smeagol's bigmaps, this works in all sectors - because he built them with this feature in mind.

Thanks for the reply!

Looking around the helicopter settings file I see nothing about changing back to the original settings but I suppose that changing the range settings would help a bit. I don't see anything about initial fuel stockpile settings which is what I would like to alter if going vanilla isn't possible. Any suggests on this matter are welcome.

You can also set ALTERNATIVE_HELICOPTER_FUEL_SYSTEM to FALSE in the JA2_Options.ini.

Thank you for the reply. I opened up the INI editor and I found the listing for the helicopter fuel system settings but I didn't find any obvious(to me at least) way to change the setting which is apparently set to true.

You just click on the entry for ALTERNATIVE_HELICOPTER_FUEL_SYSTEM and there is a dropdown box where you can set the New Value to FALSE.

Hi.
Thanks you are still working on this.

However, question - I believe I played previous(2012) version, but it may have been on Vista(now I have Windows 8.1).
Now I have installed new version, but game seems quite lagging/slow reacting. It seems worse on higher resolutions, but it seems bad even on 640*480.
For example, units selection and clicking them to target seems slow responding - multiple clicks selection needed, moving is slow, etc.
Also had to disable intro, not sure it that worked on 2012 version.
Another difference is that I tried to run it on both gamersgate and steam version of game, first on laptop - where it was totally unresponsive, steam on my desktop where it works but not really well.

I have modified quite a few options before starting the game (is there default ini file stored somewhere, or do I need to reextract to go back)?

I know I haven't really given much accurate information, but has someone experienced above and figured out what the problem is/workaround, please?

@llib: in your ja2 installation directory there is a "Docs" folder which contains a Windows 8 Fix zip file. Just take a look in the ReadMe.txt file on how to install the Windows 8 fix.

I have been away from the Jagged Alliance world for a couple of years, and spent many many hours playing it, including version 4870 of 1.13. I now have a new computer with windows 7 and I cannot even get my disk with JA2 to install at all. I can get another copy of the game from Steam, but I don't know how I would be able to install any mods on a Steam version? Any ideas for a guy that is anything but a computer whiz?

What helped for me was copying the content of the JA2-disk to harddrive first and then installing from there.

When I extract the JA2_113_UpdateForRelease7435_English_7609 file in the directory it doesn't seem to take, I still have 1.12 version JA??

you have to first install the 7435 patch. then extract the 7609 update in your ja2 install directory and run the bat file for the 7609 update.
for a full unstallation description take a look at the 1.13 wiki.

Thanks for tips regarding play on windows 8.1, indeed it seems only option is to play windowed mode, although there are still some problems (most of time it seems passing to next sector, especially up or down, is hardly possible in windowed mode (even if cursor appears, menu selecting which mercs should go does not).
I have another question though, that I haven't find answer for in ini editor or in features list - how is the new item stats supposed to work, I mean the part where items dropped (or used items purchased) have something like max repair value, beyond which they can't be repaired... Is there way to fix them still, with maybe special items or more advanced mechanical skills, or alternatively, is there way to disable this feature?
Idea was I'll enable all items drops and equip my militia with those, but if it's mostly junk that can't be fixed...

EDIT:
Now I see it's in http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/308926/New_feature_advanced_repair_di.html

After having some issues with 1.13 AR I decided t uninstall and reinstall everything. However, I noted that the link to your modpack isn't working and I wondered if you could re-link it.

Thank you
Sevenfm
Wildfire maps should be compatible with the new stable release
http://kermi.pp.fi/JA_2/Maps/Wildfire/v4552+/

There are also nice NO maps that work, too
http://kermi.pp.fi/JA_2/Maps/Night_Ops/

Arulco Revisited 1.4 works fine, too, if you use it with update from Strohmann. There are few minor issues though, but nothing really critical.

EDIT:
There's also a modpack for stable 2014 release that I made some time ago.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/m01rwdeio70tj7s/stable2014_mods.7z?dl=0
Mods included:
Wildfire 6.07 from SVN
Arulco Revisited 1.4 with update
NightOps maps

The modpack is made using VFS, the mods are ready to use, just download, extract to your stable 7435 gamedir and choose one in ja2.ini

Did you glitch out the difficulty or something? I had no problems in the beginning of the game with old versions but now I'm running the newest version and get murdered in the first few tiles. Enemies just run towards, make ridiculous head shots from far away with pistols where as I have "out of effective"-announcement, my guys can't hit enemies prone on plain sight and in effective range. Also my imp has the mp5, you can empty all your clips and not hit a thing. I'm playing experienced as always and have 1imp/6 hired mercs and only removed the airfield counter-attack.

Which version did you play before? There have been some bugs in AI which have been fixed in the past which makes the AI more likely to shoot and the increased number of attacks may therefore cause more hits on your mercs.

I'm not sure about the version, I just picked a newest single click installer on the forums. But now it has turned into misery even to capture drassen. You can try hide in the buildings and utilize the roofs but no, you will get nowhere. There is something off with the aiming system since my mercs/imps can't hit a damn thing how close I ever was but the enemy gets easy picks all the time, no matter if I'm peaking from the windows or prone behind a tree. It's like the cover isn't working at all and the enemy has some weird 150% boost for their CTH.

I haven't tested the OCTH yet so I have no idea if the problem lays in the NCTH

No idea. Last time I played (probably some 74xx version) everything was fine. Everyone needs much more bullets with NCTH but that is by design and much more realistic in my opinion. Also using the proper traits for the weapons plays a bigger role with NCTH because the penalties can make a big difference especially at the start.

Lucky shots happen from time to time so the enemy can hit a merc in the head when he actually aimed at the torso. AI usually doesn't aim for the head. You can do the same and aim for the legs and then fire a volley that may hit the torso or head as well because of recoil.

Can I change the NCTH to OCTH while I'm in a campaign? This is getting ridiculous and I want to try this other way around without having to start all over again.

ps. You are right about the amount of bullets but as I see it's YOU who needs more bullets. Enemy shoots the same but hits very accurately.

You can set
BASE_DIFFICULTY_NOVICE = 0.0
BASE_DIFFICULTY_EXPERIENCED = 0.0
BASE_DIFFICULTY_EXPERT = 0.0
BASE_DIFFICULTY_INSANE = 0.0

and
AIM_DIFFICULTY_NOVICE = 0.0
AIM_DIFFICULTY_EXPERIENCED = 0.0
AIM_DIFFICULTY_EXPERT = 0.0
AIM_DIFFICULTY_INSANE = 0.0
in CTHConstants.ini

To remove the difference in shooting difficulty between you and enemy. You can also disable giving skills to enemy, because some of them significantly increase CTH with certain weapons.
Also, lucky shots from incredible distance are very often in NCTH from my experience (with any settings).
They are caused by the nature of the system. Only possible solution is increasing DEGREES_MAXIMUM_APERTURE to max value to minimize CTH with big aperture.

You can't switch between OCTH and NCTH during a campaign. Enemy uses the same calculations for CTH btw. but you can remove his bonus like Sevenfm suggested.

One reason people may think that NCTH is too difficult is that the enemy outnumbers and outguns you from the start. This makes every one of your own misses feel worse than in OCTH.

In OCTH it was:

Merc1:
*bang* miss
*bang* miss

Ok, I still have merc2...

Merc2:
*bang* hit
*bang* miss

Well, at least one hit...

NCTH can be:
*bang* miss
*bang* miss
*bang* miss
*bang* miss

Oh oh, now I'm screwed...

But it can also be:
*bang* miss
*bang* headshot

This works both ways and I can only suggest to save often if you don't want to accept your mercs being injured or killed.

Hey there, I'm trying to figure out how to get certain features to work and I feel as if I'm missing something.

For example when I'm trying to activate Dynamic Dialogue (the thread for it says it has been added in r7297) I can't find "DYNAMIC_DIALOGUE" via ctrl+f in the Data-1.13\Ja2_Options.ini that comes with r7435, updating to 7609 doesn't change this either.

However, when I check the archives in Depri's Builds and Packages (e.g. r7623 GameDir2175) the option to enable it is in the .ini. I've ran into the exact same issue with the Disease feature (thread says it was added in r7384 and GameDir r2099).

Were those things taken out of the stable releases because they caused issues and their respective threads just don't mention it or am I screwing something up?

Thanks for some help in advance. <3

Hi rEvolutionTU, welcome to the pit!

The intention behind the stable 2014 release was to provide an exe that contains all new fixes, but not the newest features. The hope was that would result in a much more stable gaming experience (whether that is the case is up to debate). The deadline for features was 1st January 2014 - all features developed after that are in unstable releases, but not in the 2014 stable.

For example, dynamic opinion, dynamic dialogue and disease were added in 2014, and are thus not included in the 2014 stable release. The unstables DepressivesBrot provides, however, have that.

At least as far as my features are concerned, the easiest way to find out whether they are in stable is to open the corresponding thread and see at what date it was created.

Thanks for the quick answer, now it all makes sense!

Since I assume "Which clearly not marked as stable version is the most stable??!!!11" probably gets kittens killed somewhere...

1) Is there a release that has new features in but all of them disabled in the .ini?
2) If that doesn't exist is there a list of features-in-dev-but-not-in-stable somewhere so I could make an .ini that turns them all off myself? A list as in "without digging through a years worth of changelogs"?

Basically I'm looking for a way with which I can turn a couple "not-officially-stable" features that sound super cool on (understanding the risk that they might cause unsupported issues) without having dozens of things around that would be impossible to troubleshoot on my end if issues arise. Is there one? :3

Also, for the record, I remember playing 1.13 around 4xxx a couple of years ago and I really didn't expect the version number to almost double at that point. Thanks for all the great work you guys have put in! <3

Hmm, not really. Most of the features are off in the ini, but not all. I guess the easiest way is to simply make a diff between the stable 2014 ini and the unstable ini.

regarding this version, i dont want to open a new thread for this, is there some sort of soft or hard limit on how many items you can have or should have in a sector? like not go over XXXX items or it may crash the game or do other weird stuff?

i have like ~1700 items in my item base now, and about 1000 more that need to go there, and i am only in mid game there will be more coming. so can i just keep adding items or do i need to be careful and spread them out?

The maximum number of items you can have in a sector is 2^32 or 4294967296. While no errors should occur, I would still advise you to stay well below that ;)
I personally had sectors with >10k items and it runs well (as long as you don't debug). Unless you plan something truly insane, no worries here.

I know now that it could never work between us, as much as we wanted to, it could never be! Not because you're a rabbit, but because you're black.

If you want, you can donate to me. This will not affect how and what I code, and I will not code specific features in return. I will be thankful though.

Damn this game is kicking my ass. I remember it being hard but damn.

Been playing on Experienced with an 8 IMP Merc crew, and I'm still getting my ass handed to me, start after restart.

ADDIT: Marlboro Man's hotkeys list, and in particular the END and DELETE keys have helped a lot. I have now managed to capture Chit and hold it for 21 days, and have 10 mercs (3 IMPs . . . I set it to allow 10 but with sequential increase on, so that as I get more cash I can hire custom designed mercs).

So I'm doing a bit better. However, if it wasn't for save scumming I'd have restarted at least 3 more times.

Good day.

I just want to report some very minor animation anomaly on both the 2014 Official 1.13 Release (7435) with 7609 Update (Stable) and the Unstable_Revision_8004_on_GameDir_2274.

The female mercenary sprite turns into a male sprite during the intoxication idle animation.

Thanks for the great mods.

I installed jagged alliance 2 with the 1.13 mod (7609). I noticed that sometimes the enemy gets an interrupt on me, the top red bar simply freezes with "interrupt!" but the enemy does nothing, i can simply continue my turn while the top red bar stays until i end my turn. I play with the old interrupt system.

Sorry if it was mentioned before.
