I've always wanted to do a Merc voice so I figured it's time to start giving in a shot, even if it does take some time. I'll be updating the list every time I decide to record something. The most difficult part is coming up with something to say... and fighting apathy. Very Happy

Mishmash #1
Mishmash #2

Time to watch more movies and play some JA2. Or, you know, tie up some loose ends.

Learning as I go. More functional recording setup coming soon. Should neutralize a lot of problems I've been running into.

I want some Pizza.

First sample sounds promising. What exactly are you trying to voiceover? Merc? NPC? RPC?

Merc. Something new for AIM, I'm thinking. (Hence the title.)
Hoping to have a full set of workable samples sometime soon. Just gotta figure out how to work my own voice. Very Happy

Nice work on your voice, it sounds pretty good!
With the samples you made, i guess you can make several new voice sets for different mercs.
Do you have merc ideas and written lines for them yet?

The idea is to keep going until I'm satisfied. I write down lines day by day and try to make the best of them.

The samples in your mishmash (especially the second) are already very good. I was seeing characters just listening to the quotes.

Technically, the audio quality seems good too. I don't know what hardware you are using, but it does the job.

Audio quality's as good as it's gonna get. The problem I have right now is that I'm sitting hunched over when recording. Smushes the diaphragm, disallowing good speech. I'll need to set something up so I can do it standing. Should allow for more character and less whispering.

Awesome! I'd like to try this out myself... do you have a list of the sound files required for a full merc profile? (i.e. a list of situations that trigger a spoken response)

I'm sure someone's got something of the sort. Used to have a list like that but that disappeared in the sands of time.

I've been thinking about doing some lines where the character calls an old reliable rifle of his some name. ("Ugly" Very Happy)
So, would it be possible to wrangle the 1.13 code into having said rifle sort of behave like the Nails vest? By that I mean you wouldn't be able to drop it no matter what. Try doing so and you get a NOPE line.

Sounds fun and cool at least.

I'm sure it's possible, we have a character in Vengeance that does a similar thing for one of his inventory items.

Not enough new lines for another recording session yet but I've got something else in store.

[spoiler:Motivation]Oh yeah!
The guy who voiced Caleb in Blood has a leading voice role in an upcoming movie called First Person Shooter.
He's still got one of the gnarliest psycho voices around.

Turns out that recording loud laughter comes with all kinds of hickups. (Wheezy smoker lungs taking up too much real estate, tricky noise/peak cancellation...) You learn something new every day.

I'm all over the place right now so here are some Stephan Weyte inspired one-liners.
Bloop.
Sounds better with some slowdown.

Still adding lines for the yet unnamed merc. A slow and grueling pace.
Do feel free to submit some lines and maybe they'll get used in some fashion. Wink

The lines, the voice, the accent, excellent!

The "got hit" samples are my favorites, couldn't stop laughing!

super long list of 117 sounds

Surprised Surprised Is that my old sound list? Surprised Surprised

Holy schwazz, I even recognize the wording. I put it together sometime in the mid 2000s, posted it here and then lost it in a hard drive crash Razz

Crazy how things go around.

If I had to say anything about your voice samples, Slax, I'd say it's Alllllllright
