Atm JA:F is at Mixed status on Steam (108 positive reiews and 160 negative). For a game like AC: Unity (they started with Mostly Negative and went slowly to Mixed), which has an immense marketing machine behind it, this is nothing. Ubisoft can turn the tide with a few freebies and still have good sales, crap as ACU was on launch. For a small company and a niche game like JA:F, this could be the end. That's it, if we let it happen.

In case you're wondering why we need a community initiative to counter the Steam trolling happening on JA:F behalf, just read the text below.

The following text is the most upvoted JAF review ever. It comes from a guy who has played the game for 30 minutes. And doesn't even own it anymore. Going through the Steam reviews will make any reasonable person gross out and wipe their feet for dog crap. Because there are dozens and dozens of less that 1h reviews who "magically" get upvoted to 60% "helpful" status. Most of them either old or completely bogus. But let's see what this top JAF reviewer has to say, he's the perfect example of shit review full of lies and half-truths:

Quote:
Just gave up playing it. It looks like JA:Online. Not even close to JA2, or it's successor 1.13 mod. Do you even know what makes JA2 a good game? Like micromanagement, Inventory management, fully detailed weapon customisation, more simulation aspects. And what is that? Just an JA:Online (cover-marks ("shields") even haven't been changed) with great advetrisment. Tactics?

So after playing for 30 minutes, he wants to micromanage shit. He most likely never even made it to Badilla, but game is clearly JA:O because cover indicators look the same as in JA:O. Ok... let's move on. He must be on to something, 268 people agreed with him.

Quote:

Just saw three opponents gathered behind same log and started shootng at my guy, while he was at the opposite side of a log, right behind it... Stealth? Forget about it, since cover-logic haven't even been implemented, as i told you already.

So he actually made it to the first sector fight. Impressive. So after careful analysis of 1 sector and 1 fight, because shields look the same as in JA:O, game has no cover-logic.

Quote:

When i saw all this, i recognised, that noone will ever make something even close to JA2, since noone can into community forums and community-requested features. "Why should i spend my prescious time on reading this BearPit forum, which have brought JA2WF, JA2UB, JA2 1.13, AIMNAS and all that stuff to this world, if i can grab my kickstarter money and make something like JA:O?"

But he has the nerve to speak in the name of Bear's Pit. Because you he knows so much, including the fact that Bear's Pit brought to the world JA2 Wildfire and JA2 Unfinished Business, two great mods, you know. He must be the pillar of the community around here.

Quote:

This game became my biggest disappointment of this year. Just give this game to community, make extended API for modders and extend modding support. You have failed fans of the JA, just let them fix your monster atleast, since you aren't able to do that by yourself.

So he gives everyone advice. Did he check if JA:F is moddable? Nope. Did he watch the talks we had with the devs on Twitch? Forums? Anything? Nope. But he's the most trusted JAF reviewer ever.

Because I never played JA:O, I went and looked for a few pictures on the web, just to understand how JA:O looks like. Guess what...there are no shield cover indicators in JA:O...I rest my case.

So what can we do? It's easy and won't take you more than 10 minutes. Log into Steam. If you like the game and want it to have a chance, go write a short positive review (can be as short as a simple "7/10 rating"). Then look through the reviews, especially those coming from people with less than 1h of game time and downvote it. Find a few positive reviews that you agree with an upvote them.

The more the merrier. Do not let the trolls win this.

Normally I wouldn't have bothered with Steam trolls. But the Steam is so retarded they allow games to be splashed with this "badge of shame" without any checks. Anyone who wants to kill a game just because... they can. So if it's so easy to manipulate Steam reviews, let's fight the trolls at their own game. But make the fight fair. We need about 60 (70?) positive reviews to set a positive trend. Can we do it?

We need to bring out the silent fans into action. We saw what haters can do. Ok, fine. Let's see if this game has positive people behind it, too. People who understand that while JA:F is just a small bite, it's built to grow into something better than we can even imagine. We made JA2 mods for 15 years with almost bare hands. Now we actually have a solid platform to base them on. It's up to us to keep it alive or throw it away.

Thank you, Hyper, btw. Act on your own free will, judge those reviews with your own mind. But act, people, act.

Kudos. We're still heavy behind on positive ratings. Let's hope more people join up.

Disclaimer

Because I've been openly accused on Steam that I am manipulating you to write good things about JAF against your own free will, I will state this in huge red letters

[color:#CC0000]Play the game. Make up your own mind. Write whatever you wish. If you played the game and hated it, feel free to write a negative review. Nobody will hold that against you, as long as is informed and objective. All I am asking you to do is to be active on Steam reviews. [/color]
