We have managed to finally migrate BP to a new forum platform. UBBthreads was obsolete, slow and buggy. And expensive for a commercial forum who hasn't been updated in the last two years. So welcomet to Fast Uncompromising Discussion Forum! Of course, there's no match in heaven when it comes to syncing two different products so yes, PMs are a bit messed up atm. And there's no Portal or Image Gallery anymore. Or honor badges. But in time, I am confident, we can restore those functions. FUD has a plugin system and extensive Open Source documentation so developing new extensions for it should be much easier than working with UBB.

http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/images/fudlogo.gif

So far enjoy the new streamlined layout and the amazing speed of this cool new engine. And let's get kickin and rolling for another decade!

A quick note to Moderators. Please have patience - your rights will be restored. They're quite different from UBB so they didn't get imported automatically. FUD comes with a Group Leader new power which some of your will get over the forums you're managing. These powers are different and larger than those of a moderator, since you can basically run the show:

Quote:
Group Leaders
Group Leaders are users who have the ability to add other users to groups and control their permissions, When adding other users to a group using the group manager control form they are able to specify the permissions of the user they are adding. However, a group leader can never give a user a permission for something that he himself is unable to do.

Hu. Very shiny. I guess it'll take me a few days to find out what's been moved where.

Links to other topics don't work (no surprise there) - will there be some sort of automated replacing, or do we have to do that by hand?

Dunno about automated redirects, but it's a possibility. Also there's no query I can write in SQL that matches all old links and transforms them in new links because the whole reference system is changed...

- see if Sent/Received PMs can be concatenated in the same view
- code an Active Topics clean style like we had for UBB
- make a News page
- reset/setup forum mods and team leaders
- code a honor badge system based on groups

1. User inbox now is 10x times larger (3mb)
2. The formatting issues don't come from HTML, they come from BB code that's not recognized, I am afraid there's no such thing as an automated fix
3. Supposedly we have lightbox installed, but it seems it isn't working yet
4. I've lifted the restriction on editing messages that had replies, should work now

PS: I've also re-enabled ALIASES (and edited yours).

Attn: Group leaders (** GL **) you might want to read this:

http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&th=224 53&start=0&

Group leaders are people that moderate team (private/individual) forums. Their new powers can enable/restrict access to that part of the forum (they can invite/remove people from specific teams).

UPDATE - Turns out attachments per post is a per-forum setting. Which is good cause I don't want BP to become full of useless junk attached to posts. This permission will only be given to a few people and only in very specific places. For now I've enabled it here, for testing purposes.

Ok, I'm in now. Had to request a new password because the old one didn't work anymore. Maybe too many fancy characters in it. ;)

Which brings me to an issue that I just noticed. I can't stay logged in anymore like with the old forum. After some time I get logged out automatically. Is there an option to stay logged in all the time? I would rather log out manually.

Another thing that I'm missing is the "active topics" feature. With that I could just look at the recent topics I was interested in. Now I have to scroll through all the messages that are new.

And our funny smilies are gone. crying

Apart from that I will probably get used to the new look and feel.

It might be possible to use the OLD link ID to query the old database for the TITLE of the topic, then query the new database for the previously returned TITLE string, which should result in the NEW link ID. This way it should be possible to build an .htaccess file that would take care of the redirects. A possible problem would be titles that were used more than once but it should work for the majority of topics.

Yea, but old forum will be taken down soon. So a good old fashion edit is the proper solution. I've fixed Depri's SCI thread (which had lots of links) in like 2 minutes.

If anyone has a smart solution how to rewrite URLs, I am eager to hear it. But as you can see below there's absolutely no relation between the IDs of the two platforms:

OLD UBB URL:
http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/338666/Skyrider?#Post338666

NEW FUD URL:
http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&th=22399&start=0&

Seems like some form of UBB to FUD converter does exist. Easy to find via Google.
Might be helpful.

Hi,

and a Happy New Year (and forum) first! happy

@Shanga: Can you adjust that the topic title of last message is shown again on index?
Found this on FUDforum. Dont know if it helps(?):
http://fudforum.org/forum/index.php?t=tree&goto=23199&am p;am p;S=Google%20%5BBot%5D#page_top

Could you remove the 'Logged in users' from below to up please as it was before? I think the current active users would be better represented at the top.

Oh.. and when I'm not logged in I can not see who is online! But I think it makes sense that you can see that even when you are not logged in who is online so you can log in ;-)

Best regards,

Schein...

@Slax - that converter is what I used to get the content from UBB to FUD in the first place... doesn't fix UBB links inside posts...no converter does that.

@Schein - I'll see about those changes, no promises. Can't preview sig on FUD, you gotta edit it from memory (I fixed it a bit for you)

Some more:
Text at A) reads "Last post..." when it's actually the first.

Link at B ) leads to last post in thread, which is already linked to by C). Wouldn't it be better to have link B ) lead to first post?

Hmm i think that's because it's an announcement and it's pinned. Could be a different code that handles announcements. Normal posts behave differently (the last poster is shown correctly).

Sorry, but no. Reported behaviour is the same for every thread in every subform, pinned or not.

The text at A) always says "Last post..." while the date is correct for the first post.

The link at B ) always leads to the last post

Ahhh, gotcha... that's my own wrong doing. I changed the "by" text into "Last post by". And didn't notice it was used also in "topic started by" (which is what the A text reffers to). I'll change it to "author" or back to "by".
Good catch.
