I made a mistake during IMP creation that I didn't notice for a good while and I don't want to restart, so is there a way to edit your savegame or edit a specific merc in a save game? I just need to tweak their strength rating specifically.

I don't know a savegame editor for JA2 1.13. Only way to change merc stats mid game is a debugger.

Hey.
Sort of on this subject....is there a way to change the names of the Mercs from A. I.M. Before you start a game?

They can be changed in MercProfiles.xml but there are certain audio files where the name is spoken as well so it will probably break immersion if you change the name and the audio says something different.

Most of the devs use Microsoft Visual Studio (Express) in various versions. In order to change values you would need to compile your own debug exe, run that and edit the variables that you want but you need to know which ones to change and which values to use. There are hundreds of them. It's not like using an editor and doing a few clicks here and there.

Unfortunately, yes. You may be able to kill your IMP and create a new one but I haven't tried that yet.

Ugh. For the record, no. That tool wont work with any 1.13 exe of the last 10 (?) years. As silversurfer said, use a debugger.

The last time I used jape was in 2008- to understand save game format
Then manually edited the save game to make desired changes

Not entirely correct ;)

Latest Jape Version 0.41 should work with old v1.13-2085 build (08.04.27).

Then its closer to 8 years, still the same. We are at r80xx now, recommending outdated tools for current exes is not good.

I'm pretty busy with work, but in case someone else wants to work on it, I've put the JAPE source code online.

The forum won't let me post a link, so remove the spaces and paste this into your browser's address bar:

Hello Douglas,

and thank you for answering my mail! :-) It's a nice surprise to see you are still active and I really hope one of our coders can make use of your JAPE source code.

I think many people who are as me not trusted with a debugger would be interested in getting an updated version of your JAPE save game editor which works with current 1.13 version and/or last Stable v7609.

Reposted your link to JAPE source code:
https://github.com/duggelz/jape

Uploaded to Kermi's FTP as well:
http://kermi.pp.fi/JA_2/Modding_Tools/Jape/Source/

Thanks again! I hope one of our coders is trusted with Java, right?

Best regards; Schein...

Hello,

Played JA2 a for years a decade ago. Now I rediscovered it in Steam and love to play it again. Also still have my old savegames from 1.05 and love to use my MECS in Version 1.13.
Read that there is no Savegame "Converter to the 1.13 Version.
Thinking about to Screenshot the Stats and then use the v1.13-2085 build (08.04.27) with JAPE to "rebuild" the MECS. and then update to the newest 1.13 Version.
Is that a possible way to go?
Where can I get the "v1.13-2085 build (08.04.27)

Thanks for keeping this AWESOME Game a live for such a long time!

Hi Kugelblitz, welcome to the pit!

r2085 and the current unstable exe (or, for that matter, the stable 2014 r7609 release) are savegame incompatible, so this won't work (fixing that would require many many ugly hacks and extensive knowledge of the code changes during the last 10 year or so).

Couldn't you just start a new campaign and recreate your IMP character?

Hello Flugente,

thank you for your Reply. Yeah I testet it myself before reading your answer. I could load the savegame from 1.05 in JAPE 41 and also a savegame from 1.13 V.2085.
But the Changes did not show up in the game.

So .. how can I recreate the IMP Characters? I can read out their Stats from my Savegame 1.05 in JAPE 41 But where can I type their values in in a new game in 1.13?

Really keen on playing 1.13 also with the Zombies. But love to play with my "leveld up" IMPs and not the noobs they are in a fresh game.

Cheers

PS. Think I found it. sourceforge.net/projects/ja2impact/

Eh ... just set the values during creation on the IMP page as usual? If they were levelled enough that you have problems with points, raise the skill points you get in one of the inis.

Hey DepressivesBrot
Thanks for the hint! Used the INI Editor.exe to enable BobRays right from the start and give some extra cash for the gear. Also rised the IMP Initial Points and the IMP Max Attributes.
Then used the \Data\BinaryData\PROEDIT.EXE to change the Initial Values of the Characters to match the once I got in 1.05.

Thanks a lot for your Tips Guys!

hi i have jape editor but when i try to open save game file (1.12) it says "save game version 100 is not supported". so how can i edit my IMP during mid-game?

found the solution. problem was cause because of stracciatella app. if you open save game in vanilla which was saved in stracciatella mode you can resave it to make it proper for jape editor. then you have to same thing vice versa.
